Family Photo, The Weird Thing I Want to Eat, and Her Reward

Hi from our little family to yours!

Family picture with mom, dad, and daughter

Once we were dressed and ready for church on Sunday morning, I realized we were all wearing blue! So we had to take a picture 😬

I know my iron is low when strange things sound really delicious. Iron deficiency can cause pica, which makes someone to want to eat things that have no nutritional value (like clay, ice, dirt, etc.).

It’s always the same thing for me: when my iron is low, I want to eat laundry or dishwasher detergent. During my pregnancy with Sadie, I made homemade laundry detergent and it smelled delicious. I just wanted to eat a spoonful!

I was reloading our dishwasher pod jar yesterday and suddenly wanted to bite into a pod because it sounded so juicy and good πŸ˜‚

Don’t worry, I promise I won’t eat a dishwasher pod! I have a hematologist appointment this week, so I’m sure I will be getting my iron boosted and my cravings for laundry and dishwasher detergent will go away πŸ˜‰

Sadie and I were getting groceries yesterday and walked past the toy aisle (major mistake, Allie!). She spotted a Sonic the Hedgehog (<–she’s totally obsessed!) toy and I decided to indulge her since she helped me pet sit so much recently. She earned a toy for helping mom 😊

Speaking of rewards, my sister-in-law gave me a Starbucks gift card as a thank you for baking for my nieces’ joint birthday party.

Sadie got her toy, and mom got her reward for baking: Starbucks coffee! It’s so nice to have coffee in my life again after hating it for the first trimester πŸ˜†

Today is mine and Jimmy’s wedding anniversary! We were married eight years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun! Jimmy is coming to Sadie’s swim lesson for the first time today and he has a church meeting in the evening. We’re hoping to officially celebrate this weekend!

  1. Laundry detergent and dish soap pods!
I can see this happening with low iron.
Sadie is so cute with Sonic!

  2. Low iron is no joke!!! I didn’t have strange cravings with my anemia, but I had pretty much all the other symptoms which were horrible. It’s crazy how a lack of a mineral in our body! I’m glad you have an appointment to get those iron levels raised! πŸ™‚
That family picture is so cute!!!
Nate and I will be married 14 years this year… and then next year is already our 15th anniversary. I can’t believe how fast it has flown!
And I’m pretty sure that coffee is also my favorite way to reward myself. πŸ™‚

  3. My favourite way to reward myself is by buying books. I bought a new cookbook today and I’m excited for it to arrive so I can start planning meals and recipes from it!

Happy anniversary, and birthday! πŸ™‚ Hope you’re having a lovely day.

  4. Wow 8 years?! I remember when you blogged about your wedding! So crazy! That’s also around the time I started graduate school πŸ˜‚

  5. Like Nicole, my anemia wasn’t as severe as yours so I also got to miss out on craving nonfood items. I’m so glad you know what’s going on so you can get the iron that you need!
