Mom’s Chili


1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 medium green peppers, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 can (28-ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (28 ounces) tomato puree
2 cans (15 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons cumin
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

1. Heat olive oil on medium high in a large dutch oven. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned. Add the onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are slightly soft, about 5-7 minutes.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally. Serve with corn bread and enjoy.
