Hi! I think I’ve been promising to discuss how the wedding planning has been going since Jimmy and I got engaged in August. I’ve refrained from discussing it a lot because I didn’t want it to overtake my blog, you know? It seems like a lot of people are interested to hear how it’s going, so that’s what I’ll be discussing in this post!
Jimmy and I are getting married at our church on June 14th, 2014. Our wedding day also happens to fall on my 22nd birthday. Awkward. We were aiming for June 21st, but our preacher wasn’t available that day. The reception hall we booked only had the 21st or 14th available, so we went with the 14th!
I purchased my dress in October, and I’m waiting for it to be delivered. It’s off-white, and mermaid style. The color is actually called oyster. I love oysters :).
My bridesmaids and I went shopping for their dresses in October, too. I didn’t have anything particular in mind, so I kinda let them choose. I also didn’t have a color scheme until we found the bridesmaid dresses.
So, that’s what the bridesmaids dresses look like! The color is “Malibu Blue,” and our color scheme is going to be blue and gray/silver.
Our reception is at a local(ish) banquet hall. We’ve booked a DJ, and we’re renting a photo booth for the reception. I am so, so excited to have a photo booth!ย We have also booked a photographer, florist, and hair stylist. The flowers are going to look something like this…
Jimmy and I also booked our honeymoon! We’re going to the Outer Banks, North Carolina. We had such a hard time deciding on our honeymoon because I have a serious fear of flying. We both love the Outer Banks, so we’re renting a beach house there for a week! Woo!
We’ve been doing premarital counseling with our preacher, and it’s been great. We’re learning a lot about the joys and challenges that married life will bring.
We’ve sent our save the dates, ordered invitations, and set a bridal shower date and location. We still have a few things to do like order our cake (or cupcakes!), decide on the reception menu, book a restaurant for the rehearsal dinner, and pick out Jimmy and his groomsmen’s tuxes.
I have always heard that wedding planning is crazy stressful, but I haven’t found that to be true–at least not yet! I have had so much help from my family, Jimmy, and his family. I’m really excited for our wedding, but I’m even more excited to be married to Jimmy. Our wedding is one day, but our marriage is forever, and that’s what I’m truly looking forward to!
YOu know oysters are aphrodisiacs, right? ๐
LOVE the bridesmaid dress color – blue is timeless and photographs well
YAY! I love your color scheme! That is going to be gorgeous! Glad you and Jimmy won’t have to fly…we have talked about the awfulness of flying ๐ One of my favorite parts was choosing the menu. We got to sample so much yummy food!
I love the colors and I’m impressed by how much progress you have made with the planning- I can’t wait to see it all come together ๐
Mermaid is the way to go!!!

My wedding gown was a mermaid one and I totally loved it:
I organized my wedding from another country – I lived in Paris and got married in Finland – and I never ever got stressed. The day is about celebration of your love, and God uniting you, the rest will come, or not.
AHHHHH! This is so exciting! Thanks for filling us in on your wedding planning! So fun to hear about! And how cool it is that you’ll be getting married on your birthday! You both will certainly never forget your anniversary! ๐
I’m so excited to hear about this!! I love weddings and ask that goes into planning them! I love those dresses and your honeymoon sounds very low key and relaxing!
I can’t wait to hear more!
Love the colour of the flowers ๐
Thank you! Me too ๐
I loved reading about your wedding planning. I can see where you wouldn’t want to write a lot about it or it to overtake your blog, but knowing you (ok so i don’t really know you, but from reading for years i feel like I do), I would have never expected it to. Actually it’s neat that you’re writing about it because it’s a good way to document it :).
I think you and Jimmy made a great choice for a honeymoon since you’ve been to OBX before and shared memories there together already. And, I understand about the wedding date! We wanted ours just before Clay’s spring break since he was still in college. Then, it turns out Spring Break was another week :(. Both of us took one day off work for our wedding, LOL. You totally have the right attitude about making things work and not becoming a bridezilla :). Can’t wait to read more about it and see pictures of the big day.
Yayyyy I’m so happy for you guys! You really seem to have it all under control too! And I think it’s really cool that you’re having your wedding on your birthday – it will be even more special!
Wow that sounds great. I am so happy for you and I know you will have an absolutely stunning wedding. I know your dress will look absolutely amazing on you.
Aweee but the 21st is such a good day to get married ๐ Hehehe SO excited for you! Impressed that you will have it all planned before ours and you got engaged after! We need to pick up our game! haha LOVE that color, too! That blue is fabulous!
YAY!!! Love hearing about it!!!!!!! It’s all so exciting! hooray!!!!!!
It sounds like you’re doing everything you should!! Things are going to be so smooth and wonderful with all the planning. I can’t wait to see your dress, and the blue is a GREAT accent. SO pretty!
I’m glad the planning hasn’t been stressful for you. I LOVE your color scheme and the bridesmaids dresses are so beautiful!
This post was such a pick-me-up on a Monday morning. How wonderful to hear about your excitement for the wedding! Your bridesmaid dresses are beautiful, and I can’t wait until you post your dress.
I love the fact your wedding is on your birthday, but I know if it were me I’d be so nervous the focus would be on my birthday > the wedding. For me, personally, I wouldn’t want anyone to really say anything about it LOL
Woo hoo!! I love the wedding update. It sounds like you REALLY have things together. Good job!! My experience with wedding planning was the same – I didn’t find it to be too stressful. I love the details!! Oh and the flowers you chose are GORGEOUS!
What a cute birthday present, haha.
Outer Banks looks like a gorgeous place too!
I loved reading about how your wedding planning is going, Allie! I’ve always wondered why women get so stressed out about wedding planning (I’ll probably be one of those stressed out women myself, haha). I am glad to see you’re having fun with it! I love your theme colors, too. They’re very classy, and that blue color is so pretty.
I can’t wait to see your dress (I am hoping you will post pictures, if only after the wedding). You’re going to be such a beautiful bride!!!
So cool! Tha outer banks has been and will always be your special place. Just think…Spring vacations with the kids… etc. (0;
I cannot wait to see your dress… I LOVE, love, LOVE the bridesmaid dresses so much! (Talk about gorgeous). And everything sounds as though it’s coming along quite perfectly! I’m so happy for you!!!! ๐
It really just depends on personalities, I think. I was never stressed when wedding planning or on the wedding day. Christopher and I were both pretty laid back about it all. At the end of the day, we were still married and that’s what mattered! ๐
I LOVE your bridesmaids dresses! That blue is really close to the blue that my maid of honor wore. My bridesmaids wore chocolate (our colors were chocolate & tiffany blue). I am SO excited to see your dress! I know it’s going to look amazing on you! ๐
I’m so glad you guys are doing premarital counseling. It’s so good!
Love the colors! Our colors were red, ivory, and purple. :-). I had my wedding dress picked out two months after Brendan and I started dating. It had red trim and a red train, and went beautifully with my ruby engagement ring. I found bridesmaid dresses that were the same style, but reversed… Red with ivory trim.
Wedding planning isn’t stressful… Until you get to the last few weeks and realize what all you forgot and what needs done yet. ๐
Good luck, and enjoy your special day!!
Thank you! I like your colors! I think it’s cool that you mixed three colors instead of two like most people do. And a ruby engagement ring?! That is so legit. I also like the idea of reversing the bridesmaids dresses! I wish I could do that, but my dress don’t have much color, haha.
Hopefully I don’t stress out too much (or forget anything haha)!
Thank you ๐
