prayer

Currently: August 2020

Welcome to August! Here’s what’s currently going on in my life this month.

Current joy Gardening. Walking out to the garden to see how all the fruits and vegetables are growing is one of my favorite parts of each day.

Current book The Story of My Life by Helen Keller.

Current memory verse Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Current indulgence Walking around a store by myself. Jimmy put Sadie to bed last night and I spent a while just walking around Target and totally zoning out. I came home with a box of cereal and Jimmy was like “That’s all you bought after all that time there?!” haha. He didn’t understand how I can go to a store and enjoy just looking at stuff without the pressure of a fidgety toddler.

Current cuteness Seeing Sadie with her cousins and friends at the Youth Summer Days our church had at a local park yesterday. The time with other moms + watching Sadie enjoy the park and her friends and family = a winning combo for us girls.

Current mood Reflective. I feel like I’m due for a post on my thoughts about motherhood lately because they’ve been swirling in my brain lately and I need to write (type?) them out.

Current craving Time with Jimmy. He’s planning on taking a staycation at some point soon and I cannot wait. Can you tell my love language is quality time? 😉

Current fun I painted Sadie’s toenails for the first time the other night!

Current food Bunny grahams have been super tasty in a bowl of yogurt before bed each night. Also loving English muffins topped with runny eggs.

Current blessing Help from family. I went to the dentist the other day and my mom offered watched Sadie for me. It’s such a blessing to have help and love from my family! Just knowing that my family wants and asks to spend time with my child is such a wonderful feeling ❤

My mom and Sadie are bffs. Also, us girls have gone to stores together and had people ask if Sadie and I are both my mom’s daughters. We always get a good laugh out of that.

Current drink Starbucks Veranda Blend. I know a lot of people think Starbucks coffee is a bit bitter, but I’ve found this blonde roast to be extra smooth.

Current prayer For Sadie’s eye to heal. I mentioned she has a nasolacrimal duct obstruction and was prescribed some antibiotic eye drops to try and treat it. I’m praying the drops work so we don’t have to do anything more serious.

Tell me something current in your life!

Cleaning Mode and Almost X-Rays

After Niva’s brownie mix eating antics, I went into cleaning mode. The couch cushions were deep cleaned with this amazing machine, the floors were scrubbed, bedding was washed, windows wiped, and laundry done.

During my cleaning spree, Niva jumped off our bed and pretty much ran Sadie over at full speed. I heard a loud thud and then a cry. Poor Sadie was bleeding from her nose and mouth and pretty upset at being knocked down.

She took a nap soon after and woke up looking swollen, black and blue, and downright puffy. I called our pediatrician’s office, and the nurse said the doctor might want to have x-rays taken of Sadie’s nose but would call me back with a sure answer after she talked with the doctor.

I was supposed to head out for a work meeting, but wasn’t sure if we were going to need to take Sadie to the doctor’s office or somewhere for x-rays, so I stayed home. After about an hour, the nurse called and told me to keep an eye on her to see if the swelling increased or if she was having trouble breathing through her nose. If anything gets worse, they will want to have x-rays performed, but for now we’re just going to monitor her.

Whew. It was just one of those days with one thing after another. After the cleanup and nose incident, Jimmy realized I washed his AirPods that were in his shorts pockets. Then Malcolm puked on the table while we were eating dinner. Then Niva knocked Sadie over again.

When hard days happen, I do a few things to try and get through them:

  • Pray. For patience, a better attitude, contentment, thankfulness etc.
  • Talk to someone. For me, this is usually my sister, mom, Jimmy, or someone from our church.
  • Get outside. Something about fresh air always helps my attitude.
  • Reflect on what I’m thankful for. Shifting my focus from what’s hard to what is good is a game changer.
  • Spend time in God’s Word. Often, I can look back on hard days and realize I hadn’t spent enough time in my Bible that day.
  • Laugh. Sometimes you just have to laugh at the craziness and remember it’s not forever.

Something that made my day yesterday was a surprise package from my mom! She sent me this shirt and it came at just the right time. Thanks mom! You are the very best 🙂

It’s a new day and Sadie woke up looking less swollen. Niva only ate a box of tissues in the night instead of a box of brownie mix, and I haven’t washed any electronics. I think it’s going to be a good day 🙂

What helps you on hard days?
