What We’ve Been Up To Lately

Hey hey! We’ve been up to all sorts of fun around here. From reading to baking to sleepovers, and even some cookie decorating. Let’s talk!

Sadie, Mordecai, and I had a sleepover with my mom recently! Jimmy and my dad were at an overnight seminar with a few men from our church and I had a cake to bake and decorate, so us girls and Mordecai made a sleepover out of it. (more…)

The test and plans

If you’re catching up on my posts about becoming a Spinning instructor you can read about the surprise and the orientation.

In this post I want to discuss two things:

  1. What the test to become certified was like.
  2. What I plan on doing with my certification.

The test

  • The manual I received to read before the orientation came with a practice test, so I practiced before the orientation.
  • I was able to take the test online the day after the orientation.
  • The test was 50 questions and they were multiple choice and true and false.
  • To become certified, you needed to get at least an 80%.
  • Thankfully, I got all of the questions correct and I’m now waiting for my certification card to come in the mail!
  • The questions weren’t too hard–everything on the test was in the manual and a lot of it was common sense.
  • The question topics ranged from how to set up the bike to how much water one should drink before/during/after a ride (40 oz!) to what percent range your heart rate should be in during certain portions of the ride.

My plans

Like I said when I got the course as a gift from my parents, I felt unsure and nervous. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it but I prayed about it and thought about it and figured that I could possibly get a job from this experience, so why not give it a try.

I trusted that if God wanted me to get a job from this experience that He would make a way for it to happen and that he would also calm my nerves!

The day before the orientation (Friday), I picked up an application from my local YMCA knowing that they didn’t have any job openings for Spin instructors. I filled out the application anyways. I could have applied at a local LA Fitness, but I kept feeling drawn towards the YMCA even though I knew they didn’t have any openings.I took the nine-hour course on Sunday and called the YMCA on Monday.

I talked with the director of my local YMCA and she said that another YMCA (about 25 minutes from my house) desperately needed Spinning instructors and that my local YMCA needed subs.

I’m here to say that God provides.

Right now, I’m in the process of turning in all of the forms and releases to begin working at both YMCA’s- as an instructor at one and a sub at the other. I’m not sure of the little details like what days I will work or much else. I also have to speak with the group exercise director so she can check my form and probably watch me teach a demo class.

I’m totally blown away by how God provided for me. I’m really happy that for once I just didn’t worry and trusted Him fully with what He would do with my life/job situation.

Even though I may have a job, that doesn’t mean I’m not nervous about teaching. I’m painfully shy and quiet.

But, like I trusted God with my job situation, I’m going to trust that He will help me to have confidence and patience to get used to a new-to-me situation and opportunity! If I end up hating it, at least I gave it my best shot–it’s not the end of the world.

I’m excited and scared all at the same time, but isn’t life supposed to be exciting and scary?!
