We had the type of weekend that really fills my cup: one with nothing on the agenda. It’s the kind of weekend that leaves room for spontaneous adventures and a relaxed pace.
We explored a park, made homemade donuts, the kids all took a dip in a creek (Mordecai’s “dip” was more of a slip 😆), we had a campfire, soaked in the hot tub, our big kids spent some time with my mother-in-law, I did some baking, and a very special delivery arrived. 📖
Friday Fun 🍩
We started our Friday with homemade donuts! I picked up a mini donut pan the day before and couldn’t wait to play around with it.
I learned not to fill the cavities with too much dough because the first batch ended up looking more like tiny bundt cakes than donuts. The kids didn’t mind, though! They were just excited to use sprinkles to decorate.
Once everyone was all sugared up, we went to the chiropractor. Have you ever taken three kids to the chiropractor? It’s chaotic! Sadie took this picture and it accurately sums up our experience. Me laying on the table and the littles roaming around the room looking for trouble. 😉
I really love being adjusted! I recently tried out a new chiropractor and she does cupping and the Graston Technique, both of which feel amazing.
In the afternoon, the temperature hit 80 degrees in Pittsburgh! That called for some outside time. I brought the kids to a park near Jimmy’s work. It has a creek that runs through it, too. We hit up the playground area first!
After the kids were nice and hot, we decided to head over to the creek so they could dip their toes in the water. I was so unprepared for this, though. I should have packed swimsuits because Dakota immediately plopped right down in the water and Mordecai fell in!
Everyone was soaked, dirty, and happy by the time we were done.
Some people near us spotted a snake in the water and it was game over for Sadie. She was not into that! I don’t blame her, though. It was freaky seeing a snake swim right past us in the water.
We headed back to the playground to try and dry off. I still haven’t got the dirt stains out of Dakota’s dress. 😂
I even brought along my journal and favorite pen, hoping to sit on a bench to write while the kids played. I got about two sentences in and then got pulled away. Oh well, maybe next time!
We visited Jimmy at work and then headed home to get ready to have a campfire! The kids were extra excited to have s’mores.
They were so focused! Once we put Dakota to bed, we went in the hot tub. It was the perfect day. It felt like a little taste of summer.
Saturday and Sunday Sweetness 😊
On Saturday, Sadie and Mordecai went to my mother-in-law’s house for a bit! They did some crafts and enjoyed time with Grandma Darla.
I spent time with Dakota and made cupcakes for my sister-in-law’s birthday! She requested strawberry cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. I totally forgot to take a picture! I changed up my recipe and used buttermilk in the batter instead of milk. I also used Irish butter for the buttercream. They came out extra tender!
Sunday was church! I can’t believe Dakota kept a headband on for more than a few minutes. It was a miracle and she looked so cute!
In the afternoon, I worked on a cupcake recipe, but it was a fail. A customer ordered lemon cupcakes with blueberry filling for this coming weekend. I wanted to practice the recipe and I’m so glad I did. They were just… off! Back to the drawing board on those. 🤓
In the evening, something very exciting happened. The author’s copy of the children’s book I wrote, What’s True About You, arrived for me to review! Everything looked perfect, and it felt surreal to sit on the couch and read a book I wrote to Sadie. It was truly a dream come true.
Aaaand, just to keep me humble, Mordecai had zero interest in me or Jimmy reading the book to him. That’s okay, because I have a book in the works that I think will appeal to him more than an axolotl will. 😉
Other Notes and Thoughts 📝
- Scripture I’m loving: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 🙏🏻
- Recipes to try: Lemon Poppyseed Muffins, Orange Chicken, Simple Twice Baked Potatoes, and Honey Cupcakes with Cinnamon Buttercream. 🧁
- Dakota has been walking so much lately! I am going to miss the unique way she crawls. She is also starting to talk more, too. She has mastered “Uh-oh” recently. 🤣
- We’ve been getting more and more sun in Pittsburgh! Time to whip out my favorite sunscreen applicator. ☀️
It’s the start of a new week as I type up this post! On the agenda: What’s True About You will officially be published (!!), Sadie has Kid’s Club at the library, Jimmy is going to see this movie with our brother-in-law, and I have a ton of baking to do for a couple of orders. A full and exciting week over here!
