Trying, Tasting, and Taking on the Week

This week has included new foods tasted, watercolor masterpieces spread across the table, a couple of visits to the skate park, and a dentist appointment. It’s been the kind of week that didn’t look like much on paper but ended up full of moments that had me grinning from ear to ear.

Here’s a glimpse into the moments that filled our days!

Tasting New Foods 🥪

Ever since we had Sadie and Mordecai try some of my favorite childhood foods, we’ve been on a mission to introduce them to more new foods!

Tea sandwiches and cucumbers

The first order of business was some cute sandwiches and cucumbers with cream cheese! Mordecai ate the cream cheese off the cucumbers and Sadie took the tiniest bite. So: that one was a miss. The sandwiches were ham and cheese, cheese and cream cheese, and peanut butter and jelly.

I added peanut butter and jelly into the mix because I wanted them to have something familiar! The peanut butter and jelly was a big win with Sadie. Mordecai was a fan of the ham and cheese. And everything is cuter when it’s cut into a shape, right?!

Yogurt bark with freeze dried strawberries and mini chocolate chips

The next thing the kids tried was a hit! I spread vanilla whole milk yogurt onto foil, topped it with freeze dried strawberries and mini chocolate chips and froze it for a few hours. I then broke it into chunks for them to snack on! We called it yogurt bark. 😊

Snack mates chicken and maple mini stick

Mordecai picked out these meat sticks after discovering his love of Slim Jims. Sadie tried a bite and spit it out. Mordecai ate his and the rest of Sadie’s. 🤣

Have you tried any new-to-you foods lately? I recently had a sip of one of Jimmy’s ginger shots and it was pretty refreshing! I’m glad I gave it a shot (get it… a shot 😂).

Trying Out the Skate Park 🛹

Mordecai has been talking about skateboards constantly. I think he watched a video on skateboarding and it just stuck in his head. I blew his mind when I told him there’s a skate park about five minutes from our house!

Kids at skate park

We went twice this week! We loaded up our car with Mordecai’s bike, a mini skateboard, and Sadie’s scooter. Oh, and Dakota’s stroller! The kids absolutely loved it.

Mordecai was enthralled while watching all the adults do cool tricks. He told us all about how he will do the same when he’s bigger. It was just too cute!

Dakota was so good about sitting and watching from her stroller. She was rewarded for her patience when we dropped by the playground just down the hill from the skate park.

It’s always so fun to watch the kids discover something new! I told Sadie next time we go to the skate park with another adult (yay for an extra set of hands!), I’ll bring my rollerblades. Jimmy laughed and told me not to because he doesn’t want me to break a wrist, ha. I told him that maybe it’s my secret plan to break a bone so I could get a break from the laundry, cooking, and cleaning. 😉

Have you gone anywhere new lately?

Watercolor Fun 🎨

The kids and I have been doing lots of watercoloring lately! I just adore it. Thankfully, they do as well!

I decided to make a self portrait. Yup, lately my spirit animal is a raccoon peeking out of a trash can. It took me a bit to pick away at the drawing and painting as I had time.

Sadie and I watercolored outside one afternoon and I finally finished!

Sadie worked on a painting with trees and a galaxy. She is so creative!

Girl watercoloring outside

So many tasks on my to-do list tug at me each day, but when I stop and do things like paint on a sunny afternoon with the kids, it tells my nervous system it’s okay to slow down and relax sometimes. 😊

Have you made any art lately?

Taking on the Week 😊

Sadie girl had her six-month dentist appointment this week!

The dentist referred her to the orthodontist because her teeth are crowded in her mouth. I was shocked because she’s only seven years old! Apparently it’s better and less invasive to go when you’re younger. I never had the crowded mouth issue—she gets that from dad. I did have braces and ugh. Those were not fun times.

Double yolk

I went to make scrambled eggs one morning and found another double yolk!

Baby in crib

I peeked on Dakota’s baby monitor early in the morning and found her doing yoga. She also managed to get her pants off?! She is our wild child.

It is so sweet to see her sleep when she does lay still, though!

Hi from Mordecai!

And hello from the girls!

I love seeing the kids playing so happily in the yard while Niva hangs out with them. 🖤

Other Notes and Thoughts 📝

  • Scripture I’m loving: For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 🙏🏻
  • The other day, Sadie and Mordecai just played together all day. I took some time to just watch them and it was one of those moments where I was extra thankful we chose to homeschool. I’m so glad they can be together all day. They are best friends. 💛
  • Every time I bring Dakota into our basement while I do laundry, she climbs into her stroller and nestles herself into the seat like when are we going for a walk, mom? 🚶🏼‍♀️
  • The author’s copy of my children’s book is coming this weekend! I cannot wait to see it. 📖
  • Sadie and I have been reading The Story of Diva and Flea together before bed each night. The story is set in Paris, which Sadie is enamored with. I’d love to go one day! 🇫🇷
  • This post about a funny encounter with an expensive face cream that turned into a reflection on embracing the beauty and joy of growing older by my blogging friend Nicole was so great! 👍🏻
  • I added this cereal to my Amazon cart and I was slightly embarrassed when Amazon told me I’ve purchased it 12 times. 😂

That has been our week so far! Sweet, simple, and filled with joy! It’s almost the weekend. We might have our first campfire of the season and the kids are thrilled at the thought of s’mores!

What are you up to this weekend?

  1. I love that the kids go to a skate park!! I’m hoping I’ll be able to tag along on an upcoming Yaya day 🥰

I’m so glad the kids are trying out new cool foods! What a creative way to do that ~ making it fun and exciting for them.

your watercolor paintings are awesome! I’m never working on any art projects 😐 it’s just not my forte.

unfortunately, I also had crowded teeth, and had to have 2 removed to be able to have braces (as an adult). Braces are def worth the hassle- in my opinion. 😁

We have no big plans this weekend, except driving home from the beach, and church on Sunday 🥰

I CANNOT WAIT TO READ YOUR CHILDREN’S BOOK! I’m so proud of you!!!!

    love you,

    Madre
