Baby Goats, Cupcakes, and Gideon’s First Birthday Party

From baking cupcakes to spending time with baby goats to celebrating my nephew’s first birthday, our weekend was full of the sweetest memories.

Thursday and Friday were spent in full cupcake mode, with a fun little detour to meet my brother-in-law’s baby goats, and Saturday was all about celebrating Gideon! It was one of those weekends that felt full, but in the best way.

Cupcakes Galore 🧁

When my sister asked me to bake eight dozen cupcakes for her son’s first birthday party, I didn’t bat an eye. I truly love baking and I’d do anything for my sister! Honestly, I was kind of excited. Baking is so enjoyable to me.

I started making DIY cake mixes earlier in the week to get ahead of the game. I combined all my dry ingredients for each cupcake flavor and stored them in zip-top bags so it was all pre-measured when my baking day arrived. I got to work on Thursday and got all my cupcakes done by that evening.

Mordecai begged for a chocolate cupcake and I’m so glad I let him have one because he took one bite and said it was “disgust.” Jimmy then tried one and agreed. Guess what I figured out? I forgot to add sugar! Once I re-made the chocolate cupcakes all went well. 😉

Hannah had me make vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry cupcakes. I made the same flavor buttercream for each flavor of cupcake, too. I finally added my strawberry buttercream recipe to my recipe collection here on the blog! The secret? Freeze-dried strawberries!

It felt so wonderful to get those done! I frosted them on Friday and put them in my favorite to-go cupcake containers. Those containers are perfect for big batches of cupcakes. They hold two dozen cupcakes each, are stackable, and reusable!

What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? Do you have any favorite baking tools?

Baby Goats 🐐

On Friday night, we went to Jimmy’s brother’s house to visit his new baby goats! He had four goats, and sadly they were killed last fall by two stray huskies in his neighborhood. It was truly so tragic for him. He knew right away that he wanted to get more goats. He brought them home this month and we had the chance to meet them and even feed them their bottles!

I’m pretty sure the ultimate stress relief prescription should be to spend an hour or two with five baby goats. Ready to hear their silly names?

  • Bongo
  • Banjo
  • Pogo
  • Potato

All three kids were totally enamored with the goats and loved romping around Uncle Nick’s property with them!

They were all so friendly and sweet. I really loved feeding them their evening bottles. I think it was extra special for me because none of my kids have ever taken a bottle, ha.

How interesting is this: they drink cow’s milk! Nick said he has been going through gallon after gallon of whole milk every day.

It was just the perfect way to cap out the week. I’m certain I fell asleep smiling that night!

Have you ever spent time with goats?

Celebrating Gideon 🥳

We had such a nice evening celebrating Gideon on Saturday! Family and friends gathered at our church for his party. The kids played on a bounce house and ran around and everyone ate a delicious nacho dinner. What a year it has been for Hannah and Josh. They are such great parents!

I’ll tell ya what, Gideon put the smash in smash cake. He really dug in! It was precious.

Dakota enjoyed a cupcake! I hardly saw Sadie and Mordecai during the party because they were off running around with their cousins and friends. The sign of a great party!

Have you been to any celebrations lately?

Everything Else Lately 😊

The rest of life lately has been pretty chill around here—just the way I like it!

Baby girl with pigtails

Dakota sported her first pigtails. She pulled them out within 30 minutes but they sure were cute while they lasted.

Our grass is green lately! We’re at the point where we could probably mow the lawn twice a week.

We walked down to our local park and the kids had a snack “picnic.”

My mother-in-law brought our big kids out to breakfast! Mordecai’s St. Patrick’s Day beanie baby still goes everywhere with him. ☘️

Other Notes and Thoughts 📝

  • Scripture I’m loving: Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 🙏🏻
  • We had a church fellowship and I signed up to bring a dessert. I was low on groceries so I made classic no bake cookies, but in bar form. I drizzled them with white chocolate to pretty them up a bit! 🍫
  • Just reordered my favorite face wash! 🧼
  • I sent a box of these to the kids (they cost $0.70) as a surprise and you would have thought they won a million bucks. 😂
  • I’m so thankful for friends. My longtime friend, Laura, has helped me so much with tips and tricks for dealing with Dakota’s eczema. 🙌🏼

That’s all for this post! On deck this week I’m headed to the chiropractor, Sadie has a dentist appointment, and Jimmy has a haircut. We have a little cold snap at the beginning of the week (waaa!), which will be good for getting school work done. The NFL Draft is also happening in Pittsburgh this week. Send help for the traffic situation. 🤣

What are you up to this week?

Who are you currently thankful for?
