Appointments, Things I Google, and Our Duties

Our week started off with a bang: Dakota has been sick and had a coughing fit that scared me. She was gasping for air, so congested, and her eyes were goopy. I called our pediatrician’s office and had her seen. Poor Kota Bear has her first ear infection. I’m glad I brought her in when I did because the doctor said her eardrum was bulging (but thankfully it didn’t rupture!).

Dakota’s fan club at the doctor’s office 😂

Now we’re doing ten days of antibiotics and she’s taking them like a champ. She has been so pleasant despite being sick. Early one morning, she was coughing and sniffling at 3:00 am and Jimmy was using a bulb syringe to suction her nose and she was smiling so hard at him! Who does that 🤣

She has both Mordecai and Sadie beat for being the youngest age of our kids to get an ear infection (two months), lol. Sadie had her first one at five months, and so did Mordecai.

Smiley sick girl!

On Tuesday, I had an appointment. A brain MRI to check for signs of multiple sclerosis. Woo wee, if I never have to do a MRI again I will be a happy girl.

I don’t consider myself to be claustrophobic but I did not like having my head secured, something put over my face, and then being put in the MRI machine with the weird beeping. It was creepy! I was supposed to have dye injected in my veins for a contrast image but passed on that aspect of the test since I’m breastfeeding. And I was ready to book it out of that machine as soon as possible haha.

I haven’t officially heard anything from a doctor, but based off of reading the report, I think I’m in the clear! Praise God!

Our last appointment for the week will be for Kota Bear to have her hemangioma checked. My prayer is that we’ll go and they’ll say it’s nothing or just something we have to keep an eye on. I hate the thought of our two month old taking medication and dealing with side effects or having to have surgery, you know?

But whatever happens, God is in control and we’ll just do our best 🙏🏻

Actually… I might stand corrected on appointments. As I was typing this post, Sadie came to me and said her ear hurt and she had a temperature. Sooo we may be bringing her to the doctor to check for an ear infection, too 👂🏻🙃

We did school outside a few times this week and used a fun spelling technique my sister taught me: have Sadie do her spelling words in chalk!

Mordecai was playing with slime while we did this and Sadie thought it would be fun to put slime on her forehead while doing her spelling lesson?!

Like our doormat? 😆

Turns out, if you put slime on your forehead it will get in your hair and then your mom will have to Google “How to get slime out of hair.” We tried apple cider vinegar, dish soap, and conditioner so far. I think we’ll use coconut oil next 😂

If you have a spouse or significant other that you live with, are there certain duties you always do and certain ones they always take care of? I do all the cooking and on the rare occasion I leave the house while something is in the oven, Jimmy gets freaked out about taking care of it.

On the other side of the coin, he does all the hot tub maintenance. One day this week, he asked me to test the hot tub water while he was at work. I sent him a picture of the chemical test strip and I felt the panic he feels when I ask him to flip vegetables in the oven!!

Scenes from this week

I officially filled out hummingbird feeder this week–woo hoo! We bought it a few years ago and the first year I had the feeder filled, we never once saw a hummingbird. So for a few years after that, I never filled the feeder and guess what? We saw hummingbirds at the feeder constantly! Even last week, we saw a hummingbird at the empty feeder.

Hummingbird nectar

So I told myself, this is the year I will fill the feeder again! I got some nectar, re-hung the feeder, and now I’m hoping to see some birds 😊

Two friends of mine gave birth over the weekend, so I’ve been busy making meals. One friend requested overnight oats. I had fun making a bunch of different flavors.

Mordecai and I made mini muffins together. He loves being in the kitchen!

Sadie put Dakota on house arrest with her craft ribbon. Dakota kept that ribbon on her ankle all day, too. I was laughing every time I saw it. It reminded me of the time Sadie did something similar with Niva 🤣

Sader Tot also made Dakota a flower crown with her flower crown kit!

It’s the season for skinned knees and nobody is more excited about Minecraft bandages than Sadie girl! Mordecai has been wearing them, too. It’s funny to see a toddler walking around with creepers on his knees.

It’s also the season for playtime at the park 💛

Jimmy requested peach scones for our nightly post-diner dessert and Sadie and I made them together. She really loved blending the butter into the flour with her fingers and taste testing the peaches 🍑

Aaaand Runah did some sunbathing on our hot tub ☀️

Gotta love a Pittsburgh skyline at sunset. The photo below was taken at 8:30 pm! I love all the daylight at this time of year.

Other notes and thoughts:

  • We’ve been getting just enough rain that we have to mow our grass twice a week because it’s growing so fast 😮‍💨
  • Jimmy and I were at Target and he picked out an outfit for Dakota. So, so sweet! 🎀
  • Picked up this novel because there’s a Deaf character 🤟🏼
  • Jimmy cut Mordecai’s hair–yay for saving money and father-son bonding 💈
  • Our pediatrician recommended we use this to suck Dakota’s snot from her nose and it’s so weird but works really well 🤧
  • Sadie and Mordecai love doing this floor puzzle together and then sending the wind up cars around the track 🏎️
  • Sadie has been playing with a few kids who live on our street each evening and it’s too cute! I love that we’re not so busy with activities and she can have evenings free to just be a kid 👧

What duties do you take care of around the house and what does your significant other do?

  1. Aww poor girl! I hope she’s feeling better & Sadie doesn’t have an ear infection. That’s good news the report looks promising 🙏🏻 you always have such wonderful perspective on everything, but I’m sure your symptoms leading to getting tests done have been scary! Praying everything resolves! Also those scones have my mouth watering!!

  2. My goodness, two months and an ear infection. That poor sweet soul! I don’t want to jinx myself, but I don’t think I’ve ever had an ear infection. I’m glad the treatment is going well though, what a champ!

I’ve never had an MRI. I was supposed to get one a couple years ago for my back, but the machine freaks me out too. That and I don’t want to drive an hour away to get it done. Lolol. I hope you don’t need another one anytime soon!

Duncan and I don’t live together, but there are certainly tasks at my place I save for him. Usually they are the ones that involve slugs. So he takes care of the grass in my backyard, and he helps me pick up fallen leaves so I don’t have to touch them in case something is hiding in them. I think when we live together I’ll be in charge of cleaning because I am a psycho and need things clean at all times. He can be in charge of….fixing things that break? 🤣

    1. She has been such a little trooper with taking her medicine and such! I hope you never get an ear infection and never have to have an MRI!!! It was 0/10 experience for me hahah.

Duncan is so awesome! I love that he takes care of the slugs and so many other things for you even though you don’t live together yet. What a man!!
