Good and Hard

Something Sadie learned recently is that you can feel two emotions at once. She was so impressed with this revelation that she told me multiple times “You can be happy and sad at the same time!”

This week has been good and hard. We had us a day yesterday. Mordecai has had a goopy eye since being sick and I finally decided to call his pediatrician to see what I should do about it. They wanted to check him out, so we went to the doctor’s office and found out he has an eye and ear infection. A twofer 😂

The doctor prescribed a strong antibiotic and told me not to bring him around any other kids due to his eye infection. I was bummed because we had church that evening and Jimmy and I are taking a special class that we didn’t want to miss.

Once we got settled back at home after the doctor’s office visit, I called the pharmacy to check if Mordecai’s prescription was ready and they told me the system was down and they didn’t know when it would be fixed.

Sadie started acting funny not long after we got home. She said her chest hurt (I think from coughing) and was lethargic. I checked her temperature and sure enough, she had a fever.

I called the pediatrician’s office again and let them know that she had been seen a week ago for a high fever and now she had another one with chest pain. Soo, they wanted to see her. Back we went to the doctor’s office!

Thankfully her chest was clear but the doctor checked her ears and told us she had a gnarly double ear infection. I guess one ear drum was bulging. Yikes! I took the kids to the pharmacy, we got their prescriptions, and headed home.

We’re having a hard time getting Mordecai to take his antibiotic, just like we used to with Sadie when she was a baby and got ear infections on the regular.

We’ve tried a pacifier medicine dispenser (he won’t take a pacifier), a syringe in his cheek, a syringe while he sucks on my finger, etc., soo if any parents or medical professionals have advice, let me know. I’m confident he’s getting about 1/8th of each dose of medicine 😂

Yesterday was also a good day in many ways:

  • The weather was glorious. Like, I think it hit 80 degrees?!
  • We have an awesome pediatrician’s office.
  • Our kids are overall healthy.
  • Jimmy helped me out with the kids once he got home from work.
  • We were able to FaceTime to take the church class.
  • I practiced archery for the first time since being pregnant!

  1. I’ve been praying for both Sadie and Decky to be feeling better once their antibiotics kick in. As soon as we felt like they were in the clear… 🥺🥺🥺 they got worse 🫥
I think a lot of my days are filled with both good and hard things- but mostly good!!
    Love you beautiful mama!

  2. Oh we have been so through this several times, so sending you all hugs!!! Hope Mordecai is feeling better very soon.

The only way I found it worked was when I breastfed Quinn I would slowly drip it into her mouth where she was latched. It actually seemed to work well because then she was getting it mixed with the milk.

    Keep us posted! ❤️

    1. I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this, too! Thank you for the virtual hugs and thoughts!!

I will have to give that a try! Thanks for always being willing to share tips and tricks you’ve learned with Quinn. It’s so helpful for me! 💜

  3. I hope and pray that Sadie and Mordecai start feeling better soon. Hopefully, the warmer weather will help you and them out with this!
Happy Easter to you all! Thinking of you!✝️💕
