A Few Great Finds

I always love a good find, whether it’s something tucked away on a thrift store shelf or an unexpected surprise somewhere else. This week brought quite a few: from some fun secondhand treasures to spotting *my own book* at the library.

I even found a few things to think about during Bible study. Add in homemade stuffed cabbage, a haircut for Mordecai, family time, and a new vlog, and it turned into a great week!

Fun Finds 📕

I brought the kids to the library for an ice cream sundae making event this week. They loved making (and eating!) their creations. Afterwards, they did a scavenger hunt in the library’s garden!

Then we popped into the library and headed to the children’s section. I looked at the “New Books” shelf and just so happened to find What’s True About You sitting there!

It was a pinch me moment! It definitely boosted an ordinary Tuesday afternoon. 😊

That evening, Jimmy went to get his hair cut. When he got home, he told me to get out by myself. So I did! I went to Once Upon a Child, which is a local children’s consignment store.

I sold some of the kids’ clothes they had outgrown and had enough money leftover to do a bit of shopping! I was on the hunt for church shirts for Mordecai and a few dresses for Dakota. Here’s what I found.

Thrift store shirts

I grabbed Mordecai a blue polo, shark shirt, and a plaid button down shirt. All for $8.50!

Baby girl thrift store dresses

Dakota was in need of a few dresses because while she has Sadie’s hand-me-downs, their sizes and seasons don’t quite line up. I found her an embroidered yellow dress, a pink corduroy dress set, and a denim dress set with little daisies—all for $17.50.

The grand total was $26.00, but I actually left the store with $2 and some change in my pocket after selling the kids old clothes. Woo hoo!

Finding Joy in God’s Word 🙏🏻

My daily time in the book of Nehemiah has been so lovely! I try to study first thing in the morning—around 4:30 am and then again in the day whenever I can sneak it in. It usually involves a few popsicles and time outside to keep the little ones busy. 😉

Nehemiah Bible study

I’ve been using my Women’s Study Bible lately and it’s nice to have some extra notes and context as I go. I just finished chapter 5. The book of Nehemiah is all about rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem… and the hearts of God’s people.

In Nehemiah 5, there was some conflict within God’s people as they rebuilt the walls. I’m learning that God cares not only about what we’re building, but also how we love and serve others along the way.

Kitchen Finds 🧁

This week, I found myself doing plenty of cooking and baking! I decided it has been too long since I had last made stuffed cabbage.

I also had a customer order cupcakes for a birthday party. They were vanilla and chocolate with vanilla and chocolate buttercream.

Other things I prepped this week: pasta salad for a friend from church who is injured, best ever gluten free brownies, ratatouille, and four ingredient energy bites.

Have you baked or cooked anything good lately?

Everything Else ☀️

This week brought a lot of fun! Sadie went to the trampoline park with a friend for his birthday. It was so great for her to get out and have some time without her little siblings. Mordecai and I used the time while Sadie was away to cut his hair!

And he wore his new shark shirt!

The highlight of the week for Mordecai was getting his very own “motorcycle” from our church friends, Dave and Laura. They had an old small Razor motorcycle they passed on to him and he is so into it!

He and Jimmy are working on fixing it up and putting new batteries in it so Mordecai can ride. Thank you, Dave and Laura! 😊

We visited our favorite creek with my father-in-law and let the kids get dirty as they played in the water! I’ve been using my favorite stain remover spray nonstop this summer!

I brought the big kids to an outdoor flea market. Sadie had earned a reward and she wanted to find a very specific doll with a very specific outfit… and we found it! For $3! I think I was just as excited as she was. Parenting is being excited for your kids in all the big and little moments. 🥹

This girlie loves popsicles! I would like to make a personal shoutout to Great Value popsicles from Walmart for allowing me to study the book of Nehemiah. Also, popsicle drip catchers are genius. Pure genius!

Last but not least, we filmed a vlog this week!

I have lots more to share—Jimmy and Mordecai saw a historic train (!), Sadie, her friend, Dakota, and I went on a girls’ date, and more but this post is getting lengthy! I’ll be sure to post all about it soon. 😊

Other Notes and Thoughts 📝

  • Scripture I’m loving: Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
  • My favorite cereal at the moment. 🥣
  • I recently read this article about melatonin being something people stock up on when visiting the U.S. from other countries and my jaw dropped. I had no clue melatonin is classified as a medicine in other countries. Over here, we’re just eating it in gummy bear form like it’s no big deal. 😂
  • Recipes to make: Grandma’s baking powder biscuits, Polynesian meatballs, and peanut butter corn flake bars.
  • Just started reading this Debbie Macomber novel. Have you read any good books lately?

What’s the best thing you’ve found lately? It could be a thrift store treasure, a great book, an encouraging Bible verse, or even just a happy little moment from your week. I want to hear all about it! 😊
