Picture Progression, Differences, and Our Own Words

I’ve always loved wearing matching clothes with Sadie. Now that she has a little brother, I love when they can match their clothes in little ways (same color or style) and in fun ways like matching pajamas.

Jimmy and I went on a date recently and picked up matching pumpkin pajamas for the kids. We took pictures of them and this was how the pictures progressed.

They were so happy to be sitting together on the couch in their matching jammies!

Sadie hugged Mordecai and he looked a little skeptical.

The hug got intense. Then Sadie asked to hold Mordecai…

He was not having it 😂

Then Jimmy held them both and all was right in the world 🧡

Is it true that opposites attract? I don’t know, but Jimmy and I have some differences that would make us “opposites.” They’re mostly little things like…

  • He enjoys cold weather and I feel that the hotter it is outside, the better.
  • He’s a night owl and you can find me in bed at 9 pm.
  • I read as much as possible and he hasn’t read a book for fun in years.
  • He can drink coffee at 8 pm and still sleep. I would be up all night!
  • He likes to drive fast. I was pulled over once in my life–for driving too slow.
  • I have no problem speaking in public and it’s Jimmy’s worst nightmare.
  • His late night snack preference is salty food and mine is sweet food all the way.
  • He eats a salad every day and I can’t remember the last time I had one.
  • He could spend the day with me without talking. I could talk with him all day!
  • I really love latin music and he likes… anything but latin music 😂
  • He likes action movies and I enjoy kids films.
  • I would fill our house with pets and he is maxed out at two right now.

I have to know: do you and the person you’re closest to have a lot of differences?

Another question: do you have words for words? Ever since having Sadie and hearing her make up words or say things incorrectly, we now call those things the wrong name. Here are a few examples:

  • Dongies = McDonalds
  • Keppits = ketchup
  • Surf Board = rice rusk (because of the shape)
  • Hop Hops = Bunny grahams
  • Hoo Hoo = Hoodie

In other news, we had a nice weekend! On Friday night, we had Jimmy’s mom and sister over for a little hot tub get-together. We had a fire in our fire pit, made s’mores and mountain pies, and then I put the kids to bed and fell asleep as well 😂

Saturday was a chill day–my favorite! We went on a family coffee date and it was foggy and chilly out.

Mordecai happily chewed on a coffee sleeve and we caught up with the baristas who have basically seen our kids grow up in Starbucks 😂

Once we were back home we lit a few candles and Jimmy, Sadie, and I played Zingo while Mordecai crawled around at our feet. After that, Jimmy did some yard work at our neighbor’s house and I got a facial at a local business!

I was kind of dreading spending time and money on myself. The facial was lovely, though, and I got to talking to the esthetician about business and she ordered cupcakes for a party her business is having in a couple of weeks. It always feels so great to connect with and support other small business owners 😊

Sadie and I made a homemade wind chime while Mordecai napped in the afternoon. We made it from a stick, string, buttons, and bells I had laying around. I’ll have to take a picture of it because it ended up looking very cute and Sadie was so proud to show it to Jimmy.

Red velvet cupcakes

I had a cupcake order to work on in the evening: red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and apple cider cupcakes!

Sunday was a special day at church–it kicked off a fall revival. We have a guest preacher visiting until Wednesday. The young kids sang a few songs and it was adorable.

After church, we embarked on a brave mission: we had our oldest two nieces over for the day 😂 We loaded up Mordecai and three four-year-olds into the car and I was like “So this is what it would be like to have triplets and a singleton.”

Here’s a flashback to the girls as babies! I have dreamt of having them all over for playtime (and maybe sleepovers someday 😂) since they were still in the womb!

Baby with newborns

The girls were b-u-s-y all day long. They went in the hot tub, we put up the bounce house, they played with Legos, pretended to be cats, and they each changed their outfit about 17 times.

It was a good day! I loved hearing their conversations and just seeing their different personalities shine through. It’s such a blessing for the cousins to be close with each other. We all go to church together and they’re all doing the homeschool co-op together, too.

We headed back to church in the evening and Jimmy dressed Mordecai. He looked so cute and cozy! Good job, Jimmy 💚

Two things of note from the above picture: Mordecai has a bruise on his forehead from crawling into a door frame. He just crawled straight into it?!

The other thing: I bought that hoodie at a thrift store when I was pregnant with Mordecai and it seemed so big and felt like it would be eons before it fit him… and here he is wearing it. Man does time fly!

Okay, this post is loooong! If you made it all the way to this point, thanks for reading! Talk soon 😊

  1. There is something so innocent and child like about matching clothes, even as adults. I liked matching with Duncan momentarily when we were on vacation, but then I didn’t like the attention. LOL. But I do love when kids match, or parents and kids. It’s so cute.

Duncan and I are also the epitome of opposites. He is a nigh owl too and I am very much a morning person, he is a homebody and I want to spend my days off outside as much as possible, he likes video games and I can’t stand them, I hoard my money and he spends more freely, and I could probably go on. There are certainly things we are similar on and finding middle grounds with spending time together has been the key for us.

That photo of Sadie in the middle car seat kills me. So funny.

    1. I feel like I remember seeing a picture of you and Duncan matching for vacation and I was like YES. I wonder if I can get Jimmy to match me 🤔

I’m glad we’re not the only couple who are opposites! Actually, I feel like Jimmy and Duncan would get along super well and you and I would go hike together and discuss cats and life.

      Sadie’s excitement level was a 100 hahah!

  2. I LOVE THIS POST! So many amazing pics and stories behind each one!
The differences in you and Jimmy’s personalities are hilarious. Dad and I def are very different too – but it works! LOL
The 3 older cousin girls will absolutely be best friends for life. They’re all such a blessing :)))
I love when Deck and Sadie have on matching pj’s!! Go Burts Bees!!
    Love you!

    1. Thank you for always reading and commenting! I agree–sometimes being different just works! I love that the girl cousins are so close and I pray they always will be! Love you ❤

  3. It is so difficult for me to get into the fall mood right now, since Texas is triple digits still and only NOW are we starting to dip into the 90s, lol!

I’m ok with just jumping to winter right now to be honest, haha!
