Currently: November 2018

It’s November! I’m really looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving this month. The weather is becoming cooler here in Pittsburgh and the fall foliage is absolutely gorgeous!

Here’s what’s currently going on in my life 🙂

Current book(s) Still this one and also this one.

Current fun My parents, Jimmy, Sadie and I are taking a day trip to West Virginia!

Current project Redecorating our living room, and by redecorating I mean randomly moving objects, pictures, and decor to different spots. Trying to keep things fresh while using what we have!

Blue and gray hexagon geometrical watercolor art framed

Current prayer For everyone impacted by the shooting that recently happened at a synagogue here in Pittsburgh.

Current drink I’m on a smoothie kick lately. Nursing Sadie makes me crazy thirsty, so smoothies have been especially satisfying! Also, this tea from time to time.

Current blessing Smiles from Sadie! I cried the first time she smiled at me. It made every tough moment of her first few weeks so worth it.

Current excitement My sister and her husband are expecting! I’m so happy for them and can’t wait for Sadie to meet her cousin in a few months!

Current food Apple cider pork chops. I was feeling fall-ish and decided to marinate pork chops in apple cider vinegar, mustard, onion, and spices like sage and cinnamon. I then baked them on a bed of sliced apples. So good. Would anyone want the recipe?

Current obsession Bread! When I slept over my parents’ house, they had both rye and pumpernickel bread on hand and now I’m hooked. I took some pumpernickel home and have been enjoying it with runny eggs on top.

Current beauty product I need to pick up this curl cream because I’m all out!

Current laugh All the nicknames we have for Sadie. I started calling her Sader Tot before she was born, and now we’ve even shortened it to Tot. Among many others are Darth Sader and Hungry Chick.

Current confession Jimmy sent me to Walmart the other night because Sadie was having a fussy evening that resulted in both of us girls crying. What did I buy at Walmart? A shirt for Sadie.

Current goal Taking some time to watercolor. I miss it a whole bunch!

Current need A haircut. I haven’t had it cut since February. Postpartum hair loss is real! I’m tempted to do something drastic, but I don’t have the time or desire to keep up with styling a high maintenance cut, lol. Any ideas?!

Tell me something current in your life!

  1. Me! I want the recipe for the apple cider pork chops. That’s a good husband – sending you out for some fresh air when you and Sadie were both feeling a lot of feelings. And cute onesie you got her! I’d be interested in a how to post on styling your curly hair, especially if you cut it (I FEEL you on postpartum hair loss. I’m now in the regrowth stage of that process and have sooo many baby hairs) shorter because I have naturally wavy hair that I’ve been embracing lately (see above: baby hair regrowth is impossible to smooth into straightened hair). Congrats to your sister and BIL!! How exciting. That’s great that Sadie will have a cousin so close in age.

    1. Yay! I will absolutely post the recipe!

I was so thankful Jimmy sent me out for some fresh air when we were having a tough evening. I didn’t want to get out, but it really made all the difference for me and made me appreciate Jimmy even more.

I can do a post on how I style my hair, too! It’s pretty simple, but I’ve learned a lot over the years (I used to straighten it with an iron… like a clothes iron!!) haha. And the postpartum hair loss… UGH. It’s worse than I expected!

I’m SO pumped for Sadie to have a cousin just nine months or so younger than her!! I still can’t believe how much of a blessing this will be!

  2. That was so sweet of Jimmy to send you out after a little rough patch. Sadie’s new shirt is so cute! Perfect for holiday festivities that will start to happen soon.

    Congrats to your sister!!

    1. It made me appreciate him even more than I already do! He just knew exactly what I needed before I even realized it, haha.

Thanks for the compliments on Sadie’s little shirt! I’m so excited for her to wear it! I will pass along the congrats to my sis, too! Thanks 🙂

  3. I saw the shooting in Pittsburgh and thought of you. As someone who lives in a city that had a shooting in a place of worship (Emanuel AME in CHS) and someone who used to live in a small town where a police officer was recently killed (Florence, SC), my heart goes out to you. Even if you don’t know those affected, it is hard when shootings happen so close to home. With the media coverage, I felt like that was all we were known for for a few weeks, but CHS really came together.

Those runny eggs look so delicious! One of the brunch restaurants here serves an avocado toast with runny eggs and a side of hashbrowns, and it looks so good (but also easy to make and not go out for too).

    1. Thank you so much, Amy. It was just devastating to hear about a shooting so close to home, especially in a place of worship. It definitely drew our city closer together like CHS did, which has been beautiful to see, but still so, so sad and tough and just .. I don’t know how to put words to it.

Runny eggs have been quite the obsession for me lately! I’ll have to try that idea of avocado toast with runny eggs and hashbrowns. YUM. I know exactly what you mean about something looking delish… and then thinking I can totally make that at home for 1/4 of the price and it’s so easy, haha.

  4. What a lovely photo of Sadie’s beautiful smile! 🙂

Congratulations to your sister and her husband! That’s exciting news! Is she planning to continue with her nursing studies? She’ll definitely be busy!

Something current in my life: as the weather gets colder, I’m really enjoying cozy knitwear. I just bought a new woolen jumper which I love!

    1. Thank you so much, Grace! It’s one of my favorite photos of her so far!

Hannah is still rocking her way through nursing school, which totally amazes (but doesn’t surprise) me! She just thrives off of being busy and having a full plate (I am the opposite, haha!) and she’s just cruising right along to be able to take her boards in May! She’s thinking of doing a “day in the life” post for my blog soon, so it will be fun to see what her days are like as a pregnant nursing student!

Yay for cozy knitwear! It makes all the difference to wear clothes that keep you warm and make you happy!

  5. Aw gosh, Sadie is so beautiful! Congratulations to your sister! It’s so fun having cousins around the same age. 😄 Sader Tot is such a cute nickname & I love the new shirt you picked out for her!

  6. So so excited for you to have a cousin so close in age for your Sadie! That is going to be such a fun blessing!

Those first smiles! YES! So so sweet! And definitely help make up for the hard moments.

So good that you got out of the house for a bit on a night when you were feeling all the feels. I totally understand buying the shirt for Sadie! It may just be me, but my favorite thing to shop for these days is my kid, haha!

    1. I must think about how excited I am for Josh and Hannah (and our whole family, really!) like 100 times a day!

The first smile.. wow! It was like every hard moment before than was wiped away (kind of, haha) and made it soooo worth it!

YES to buying kids clothes! They’re just so cute!

  7. Enjoy your trip to West Virigina!!! How exciting

Look at that smile- my heart is melted.

I would love the apple cider pork chop recipe please!!!

The pumpernickel bread and egg sounds sooo good.

Your nicknames for Sadie are just adorable.

Thanks for such a wonderful update, girl! ❤

  8. Aww how exciting for your sister & her husband!! Babies all around! So sweet! ❤ Also, I need to know how you make your eggs over easy because those look PERFECT and I struggle so much with frying eggs. I always poach them instead haha.
