As I’ve recently alluded to, there have been some changes in my life!
I have a new job. I’m now working for my family’s real estate brokerage. The business has become busier and busier as more agents have joined the team, so I’m now in charge of the company’s website, marketing, and social media!
One of the awesome things about this new job is that I’m working remotely, so my schedule is a lot more flexible. It’s also great to know I’m helping to further my family’s business. Some of my co-workers now include my brother, dad, and sister-in-law. Yay!It sounds like that should have been an easy choice but it totally wasn’t.
First and foremost, I was bummed to leave the family I was working for. They have treated me so well over the past couple of years, and I’ve felt like a part of their family.
Secondly, the same day I received my family’s job offer, I received another job offer. The other job would have had similar hours, a different type of work, and was located in an office that’s about a 30 minute drive (without traffic) from our home.
I had to really think about it. I would have to give up pet sitting if I took the second job offer, and I’d be spending at least an hour a day commuting to and from work.
Jimmy and I talked a bit and we both agreed that working for my family’s business seemed like a better opportunity. I’m really enjoying the work I’m doing so far and I appreciate not having to drive in Pittsburgh traffic every day. Can you tell I really dislike driving? 😉Anyways, it has been such a season of change for me! I put in my two weeks notice for the family on March 1st, so my last day was the 15th. I’ve been working for my family’s business for a week now, and it’s awesome. The creative aspects of web design and marketing are especially fun.
I’m sure I’ll have more to say as time goes on, but I just wanted to update everyone on the big change!
Congratulations Allie! I’m really happy for you. 🙂
It definitely sounds like you made the right choice: flexible working, no commute, and working with your family. What a great job to have! 🙂
Thank you, Grace! I am so pumped and feel very blessed with this job!
Congratulations on the new job and I will agree that you made the right choice. Working remotely is pretty awesome and it sounds like you can develop a lot of skills with marketing and social media. Plus you’re close to your pets which is a really big deal. Also the flexibility of remote work is great, and not having to fight traffic or commute in bad weather. Glad you are enjoying it so far, too!
Thanks, Amy! So far, I absolutely love working remotely. It feels like such a blessing. Learning new skills with social media and marketing has also kept me on my toes in the best way. I feel challenged and like I’m learning every day. And nothing beats being with the fur babies each day!
So excited for you in this change! It sounds like this was definitely the right decision for you so I know that has to feel good. 🙂
Thank you so much, Rach! It does feel wonderful!
Changes are so good! I love doing the social media for my job. It’s a small way I can be creative 🙂
Truth! I agree that social media is such a neat way to be creative!
I feel you, I’d totally take a remote position than having to drive anywhere near the city/traffic….I really hate driving too LOL But thats so awesome congrats on the job, I’m sure your family was thrilled that you get to join and help them 🙂 And the position itself sounds great, the marketing aspect always seems so fun- I’m sure you’ll do a great job!
xo, JJ
It’s crazy how much time it saves to not have to commute to an office through the daily Pittsburgh traffic. It’s like a whole new world, haha. The marketing aspect of the job has been fun! I feel like I’m learning new things every day!
That is so awesome that you get to work so closely with family! I think it was a wise decision too 🙂
Thank you so much, P!!
Woohoo! Congrats Allie!! I know it can seem overwhelming to make a big lifestyle change, but it seems like yours will be such a positive one in the long run! That is ultimately what Will and I recently went though with MY job change decision. Working for my last job had more negatives than positives when we prayed about it and considered the new opportunity before me. And lets be honest… a long commute is NO BUENO! 😀
Here’s to many amazing things in your future! I have no doubt that you will excel in this new position 🙂
Thank you! It was definitely overwhelming to make the big change–you hit the nail on the head!! I agree, I think it’s definitely a positive change 🙂 I now know how you and Will felt when deciding to do your job change!
