Hi there! Well, it’s been quite some time since I last blogged. Actually, I just looked at the date and noticed it has been exactly four months. How weird! I totally didn’t plan that, haha.

When I stopped blogging, I didn’t specifically plan on taking a break, I just let it fall to the wayside and focused more on everything else going on in my life. Looking back, I probably should have written a post saying something instead of just dropping off the face of the internet. Sorry, guys! I wasn’t sure if I would come back to this space, or if I had become too busy to blog or write. Over time, I realized that writing has always been a huge part of who I am, and blogging is one of my favorite ways to record my life, express creativity, and reflect on everything going on in and around me. I hope I will never become “too busy” to write because it is the easiest way I express and evaluate myself.

Anyways, I’m back! Four months feels like an eternity, and I have never stepped away from my blog for such a long period of time. I have some catching up and updating to do. I feel refreshed and renewed after the long break. I’m also feeling much more focused. I’ve always been pretty random in my posting, but I’m hoping to be at least a little more organized from now on.

A lot has happened since April! Jimmy and I turned this…

Into this…

According to our neighbors, the previous owners of our home used to have a rockin’ garden. We decided to try and follow in their footsteps and have had wonderful results. We actually planted way, way, way too much haha. I’ll blog about the garden another time because I could go on for hours!

Jimmy and I celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary at Savage River Lodge in Frostburg, Maryland. We even brought Lola along for the celebration :). It was wonderful to spend a weekend reflecting on a year of marriage in such a beautiful setting.

Savage River Lodge

I spent a lot of time taking pictures of Hannah over the past few months to practice my photography. I ended up taking senior pictures for her and her best friend. I don’t claim to know much about photography, but I enjoy learning more every time I look through my lens and take another photo.

My family graciously took Jimmy, Lola, and I to the Outer Banks last week, so that was awesome. Some time away from work and responsibility was just what we all needed. Since moving out of my parent’s house, I’ve missed my family a lot, so having a week with everyone together again was a tremendous blessing.

Other happenings for me since April include plenty of working and pet sitting. Previously, I never really discussed the specifics of my “regular” job. I was hired as a household manager for a family of four in January. Basically, I run errands, grocery shop, cook, clean, take care of their pets, occasionally nanny, and do any other random tasks that they need me to do. I love my job, and the family I work for is very good to me. I won’t go into too much detail about my job because I respect my employer’s privacy, but I figured it’s okay for me to at least say what I do for a living, haha.

Pet sitting has also been keeping me super busy. I adore every single second of it, too. I’ve only had one bad incident where a dog I was watching in our home bit Lola on the nose. Poor little gal. Since then, I’ve been focusing on pet sitting outside the home more often.

Dog sitting

I’m sure I’m forgetting about a million other things that have happened since I last blogged, but I’ll probably remember and post about them eventually.

It feels good to be back. The main things I want to focus on and blog about nowadays are life (as always!), faith, photography, dog sitting, book reviews, and some fun writing topics and prompts. I used to blog a lot about fitness and food, but my interestes have changed over time. I’m always going to stay true to myself and blog about what is interesting to me because I feel that naturally produces quality writing, you know?

Okay, this post is getting super long so I’m going to go and try to catch up a bit on everyone’s blogs in the next few days :). Thanks for reading, and I’ll be back soon!

  1. YAY WELCOME BACK! I don’t always thing posts about stepping away are necessary and sometimes life just sucks you away and that is QUITE ALRIGHT! This way you can come back anytime, so YAY. Life is moving and groovin I cannot believe it’s already been a year for you two! WOWZA.

    1. Thank you, Brittany! It feels so good to be back :). You’re right, too… we don’t have to explain why we need a break, we can just do it and be okay with it. Thanks for that! I needed to read that. I can’t believe it’s been a year for Jimmy and I, too. In December it’s already going to be a year and a half. Not even real!

    1. Aw, thank you for the warm welcome, Kaila! I have been so busy, but in the best way possible, haha. Thanks for the compliment on my garden! It has been a lot of work, but so very worth it. I can definitely see you having a huge garden one day 🙂

  2. I’m so excited to get this update on your life!! That garden space looks fantastic. I can’t wait to read more about what you guys did there. It’s great that you’ve been loving your job and that you’ve been getting to pet sit so much – I know you enjoy that.

    Happy belated one year anniversary!!

    1. I’m so excited to give this update… finally! Thanks for the compliement on our garden. It’s been a lot of work, but I love that kind of work! Yes to the pet sitting and work! Love it all so much :). Thank you for the b-day and anniversary wishes, too!

  3. Welcome back to the blogosphere, Allie! 🙂 I love the new look of your blog and your customized header font. It looks great, and so does your garden! Home-grown produce tastes so good, doesn’t it? 🙂

It sounds like you’re really busy… I know the feeling! Quite a lot has happened in my life too since we last ‘spoke’ via blog comments. I tend not to discuss my personal life in detail on my blog, but perhaps we can catch up sometime via email. 🙂

    1. Thank you for the welcome, Grace! Also, thanks for noticing the new look :). You have such an eye for detail! And oh yes, home-grown produce… it is out. of. this. world. So, so good.

I had a feeling you’ve been busy, too!! You never keep still in life for long! That’s a good thing I think! I would love to catch up via email!!

  4. I was thrilled to see this post because I love your blog and really missed your posts and you. I loved your pics from the Outer Banks too, it’s so fun that your family goes there for vacation and looks like you had a great time. The garden also looks nice and hooray for growing your own food and saving some $$$ at the grocery store!

I don’t blame you not to discuss work on the blog- although I always thought you worked in real estate? I wrote a “Day in the Life” post recently and was even a little uncomfortable with that because I don’t like talking about specifics of my job (not that I do anything top secret, but still, I respect my employer and our clients and the details that don’t need to be on social media). It is better to just not talk about it sometimes- I’ve seen people ranting and raving about jobs on Facebook and it’s just not professional- like I’d never want to be a reference for them.

I can’t believe you guys have been married for a year. It seems like yesterday I was reading about your wedding :). Happy belated anniversary!

    1. I’m so glad you were happy to see this post, Amy! It feels good to know I was missed :). Thank you for the compliments on our vacation pictures and garden! You’re right about saving money! At first, I thought we were losing money with buying plants, weed killer, fencing, etc., but I haven’t bought produce (besides fruit) in months! Either way, it’s been a great experience that I don’t regret in the slightest!

Oh yeah, for work I’m still doing some real estate stuff for my parent’s brokerage website! I probably should have mentioned that, huh? I know what you mean about getting specific with jobs and stuff. It such a tough topic to balance with respect, good taste, and class! I totally agree on the FB rants, not necessary haha!!

I can’t believe it’s been a year, either! INSANE! Thank you for the anniversary wishes!

  5. I missed you Allie! I’m so glad you found me on Snapchat. I love watching you and Jimmy jamming out to beats in the car 🙂 Your job sounds perfect for you. How is Jimmy doing?

    1. I missed you too, Ellie!! I was reading your blog a bit while I wasn’t posting, so I tried to keep up, but it feels good to be fully back to this space! I’m so glad we’re on Snapchat together, too!! It’s always fun to see your snaps :). Jimmy is doing great! Actually he just tried to start a game of tag with me in our house, haha. He’s too much 🙂

  6. I’m so excited you’re blogging again! It’s always lovely to read about your most recent adventures in life. It was serendipitous I commented yesterday, and here you are posting 🙂 “ask and you shall receive” -Rachel 🙂

    1. Aww, thank you Rachel! I am so excited to be blogging again, too! Sharing all the adventures in my life just feels good. I love being able to look back and see what I was doing one, two, or even five years ago! And wasn’t it crazy that you commented just as I was deciding to make a comeback?! Your comment was a total catalyst/sign to me to get back into blogging! So thank you!

  7. I’m glad to see you back and doing well. It sounds like life and everything has been a whirlwind. That setting looks amazing and it looks like a place I would love to spend some time.

    1. Thank you, Hollie!! Life has definitely been a whirlwind, but in the very best way :). I think you would love Savage River Lodge! If you and Tim ever go away, I would recommend it! There are lots of trails you could run on 🙂

  8. I love that you are back in the blogging world! I have always read your blog, even before I had my own, and it’s ironic that as you stepped away from writing, I stepped up in writing! Haha I actually wrote in a recent post that your blog was one of the ones that inspired me to start 🙂 Can’t wait to keep reading!

    1. I love that I’m back, too! Thank you! I can’t believe that my blog was one of the ones that inspired you to start blogging.. that’s so awesome! It’s a big compliment to me because I love your blog!

  9. You’re BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!! This officially means that the card I sent you will make no sense, haha! Mostly I just said that I missed reading your blog, ha! Oh well, I’m glad you’re writing again! 🙂

You sure have kept busy! Sounds like your job is a fun one! A great way to put your organizational skills to work. 🙂 And all that dog sitting – so sweet! I was SO thankful when our regular dog/house sitter decided to stay in Memphis for college (she just graduated high school this past May). I was so worried about who was going to watch Oreo for us while we were gone. He is particular about who he likes so it can’t just be anyone. And we had an instance where our dogsitter (not the one who normally keeps him) threw a party at our house while we were out of town. Not cool. So we are grateful to have someone keep Oreo who loves him and who we trust. I’m sure the people you dog sit for, are SO grateful for you!

Look at you guys and your garden! Congrats! I look forward to hearing more about it! 🙂

    1. Yaaaaaaay! Thank you for the card you sent me! I got it today, and it totally made my day :). I am obsessed with mail (getting it, sending it, etc… possibly linked to watching Blues Clues as a kid?!), and Jimmy and I don’t get much mail. Your card was the only piece of mail we got today, so I was ecstatic, especially since it was from such an amazing person 🙂 (cough, you cough).

    1. Thank you, Jamie!! I am so glad to be back :). Definitely a lot going on, but in a good way. I am loving all the pet sitting! I wish I could meet Tevel! Maybe one day! Let me know your address when you figure out your living situation in Boston. I want to be pen pals again!

  10. Welcome back! I love the photography and prompt focus. I agree, prompts help to make writing more focused and easier to read 🙂
