West Virginia, wild and wonderful.
As I mentioned in my previous post, Jimmy and I went to Wheeling, WV for a one-night getaway. It was our first vacation since our honeymoon, and I was beyond excited! We headed out to Wheeling after work on Friday evening, and stayed until Saturday afternoon. Not a super long trip by any means, but it was perfect for us.
We went out to eat, checked into our hotel, visited Cabelas (a super big outdoors/hunting retail store), and relaxed in the hotel’s hot tub on Friday night. We talked about everything and nothing at the same time, and it was lovely. I truly enjoy just being with my husband, you know? We can be sitting together, not talking or doing anything, and I really cherish those moments of togetherness.
After a good night’s sleep, we woke up on Saturday morning and ate breakfast (and drank lots of coffee!) at the hotel. I read my devotions book and the newspaper. I love reading the newspaper wherever I travel! After breakfast, we decided to get back in the hot tub. Yeah, we were in that hot tub at 8:30 AM! It felt so good to just do nothing for once.
After getting ready for the day, we wandered around Wheeling, stopping in a bookstore and Petco to look at kittens for adoption. This is dangerous for me to do–both the bookstore browsing and looking at kittens, ha.
We grabbed lunch at Bob Evans, and then made the trek home in time to mow the lawn and head out to see a friend in a musical. It was a lovely little getaway, and very relaxing. I’m glad I blogged about this so I can look back and remember our first little vacation together!
Sounds like SO much fun! I’m so glad you guys got to go! I definitely know what you mean about just loving being with your husband. 🙂
It was a blast! We didn’t do anything super exciting or adventurous, but it was great all the same! I’m glad you know what I mean about just hanging out and truly enjoying every single moment of it!
Little moments like this are so special. It’s the small things you will remember forever and through which God uses to bring you closer. I’m glad to hear you had a great weekend! 🙂
It looks like you guys had so much fun :). Clay and I went on a little date to a craft beer place on Friday night so he could have a beer and we enjoyed the live music and the food truck. It was pretty cheap and simple but I had such a great time. I think it’s important in a marriage to just do little things- vacations and dates don’t have to be elaborate. Heck, I’m happy going to eat at Wendy’s with my husband just because I’m with him :).
I’m kinda jealous of the hot tub. It looks like fun! I haven’t been in one since I went on a cruise last year!
How fun!! I don’t know why, but I find Cabela’s to be a fun place to wander. I feel like that’s totally not normal for a vegan to say, but the displays they have are fascinating! HAH.
What a fun little trip! Glad you two enjoyed yourselves!!
I’m so glad you are enjoying yourself. I always get excited when I see your posts and I know how happy you are.
So much fun!!!!! I am hoping Jim and I can get away for a little Babymoon trip!!
quick getaways with the husband are *The best* i love taking a little time and just being together and enjoying the little things 🙂 also, i live by 3 cabella’s (it’s big in the midwest!) but i’ve never been. i heard good things though – its like a camping amusement park inside? i need to go 🙂
AWww, this sounds like me and Nate’s first vacation together. We kept it really relaxing… and we spent lots of time in the hot tub too! 🙂 I think that sometimes, the simplest getaways are the best! 🙂
It’s those simple 1-2 night getaways that are really the best. And it is all about being with the people you love the most. Glad you had a great break and were able to spend precious time with eachother!
Definitely got you on the togetherness thing! It’s a beautiful thing. 🙂 I also love this post because I visited West Virginia for the first time in January and totally made a ‘wild and wonderful’ comment on my post too. When I first saw this, I was like …wait…is this mine?! Haha. I think I need to go to sleep now. 😉
I visit that area all the time to see my soon-to-be inlaws. There is so much more to do in WV than most people think!
Can’t believe it’s already been a year since you and Jimmy got married! I miss reading your posts! 🙂
Hi Rachel! I can’t believe it, either! It’s so funny that you commented on my blog… I’ve been really considering getting back into it!! I’m hoping to post today or within the next few days 🙂
