I should be working right now, but I just really want to blog. This week has been b-u-s-y. Jimmy is wrapping up a big work project at the Pittsburgh Zoo and I’ve been pet sitting, baking for Hannah’s bridal shower, and working.
I was thinking about balance the other day. When I have a lot on my plate, I just don’t think balance is realistic. What’s more important about that thought is that I need to accept it. This week has been busy, and I probably won’t get everything done that I want to, and that’s okay. That’s life!
I was also thinking, how do parents juggle everything? I think I’m busy with my regular life, and then I see parents take care of their children, work, and do other things and I’m like… how?! It’s amazing.
Our Resurrection Sunday (aka Easter) was low key and lovely this year.
I had to pet sit, so Jimmy and I went to church in the AM and PM as usual, I cooked a fresh ham (from my uncle who raises pigs), and we had a pretty relaxed day together. It was nice not to have too much hustle and bustle so we could reflect on the great sacrifice Christ made.
We have two dogwood trees in our yard and they’re in full bloom! I can’t believe how gorgeous they are. To take the above picture, I got on Jimmy’s shoulders. I’m sure our neighbors thought that was interesting 😉
The arrival of spring is so refreshing. It also means allergy season for poor Jimmy. I think we’re going to go to a local farm this evening to buy honey. We read that local honey can help with allergies, so we’re going to give it a try!
Only a few more days until Hannah’s bridal shower! I can’t wait. I think it’s going to be a really special day for her and a lot of fun all around. I’m going to be a little sad when I don’t have to practice making elaborate cakes, cookies, and cupcakes for the big day though, haha.
My aunt and cousins from New York are staying with my parents, and it’s so nice to see them. My cousin brought her daughter, Macie to church last night and I played with her for a solid half hour after the service. At 10 months, she’s at a really fun development stage. It’s so neat to watch her discover everything around her. I had her feel Jimmy’s beard with her hand and she was cracking up!
Last but not least, I finally painted a new paint sample in our office. I like it a lot better than the last one, so I think this is it! It’s called Peach Whisper. The sample has been on the wall for like two weeks now… I just need to find the time to actually paint 🙂
Speaking of time, I really should start work!
I love that Jimmy is working at the zoo on a zip line. That seems like a really cool job assignment. Glad you had a good Easter and that cupcake looks delicious… 🙂
He seems to really be enjoying working at the zoo on the zip line! Of course it’s a little stressful, but that’s work, ya know?! I cannot wait to try it out!
Thank you the compliment on my cupcake 🙂
That cupcake is so pretty. And so is the photo of the dogwood tree. Great angle, so totally worth any curious looks from the neighbor’s. 🙂 I remember 10 months being especially fun with Ava so I agree with your assessment on that – enjoy your time with your family!
Thank you!! I miss making cupcakes now, but it is nice to not have any stress surrounding baking!
And man did I not realize how much fun babies are!! They’re just so cute and interactive and sweet. Baby fever going on here, haha.
Yay! I love that we are both fixing up our offices at the same time 🙂 I love the pink!! So bright and cheery– perfect for spring!
Aww yay! We’re twins! And thank you!! I’m loving the bright, happy color. Hopefully it will motivate me to stay focused while I work 😉
So nice Allie, Love you, Dad 🙂
Thanks, Dad!! I love you too! So much 🙂
I am finally off for three days starting NOW! It feels so good to be just sitting here and reading for pleasure/listening to a podcast. It’s been a long two weeks, but I’m going to relax this weekend. Unfortunately, a race I wanted to do is not happening, but oddly, when I decided not to do it, I felt relieved, not sad. I take that as God telling me it’s ok. I made the right decision.
If you ever want to bake cookies and need someone to eat them, please send them my way ❤ 🙂
I hope your three days off were glorious, Ellie! I’d love to send some cookies your way! Vegan ones, of course 🙂
I think peach whisper will be a perfect color for your office. I agree with Brittany It’s the perfect amount of bright and cheery!!! Also I always think about how parents just juggle everything esp; kids take up so much time as is plus having to work and do day to day chores…. just how lol I guess one day we’ll learn! I cannot wait to see the final product of the goodies you bake for Hannah!!! Whats the color scheme of her wedding?
xo, JJ
Thank you, Jenny!! I just love bright and happy colors, haha.
Hannah’s wedding color scheme is purple and gray!
I love blogging when I’m supposed to be doing something else. HA, it’s a nice mental break.
Exactly!
Freeze me some cake pretry please!!!
I’ll bake you a fresh one next time you’re in Pittsburgh!! Love you!
There are a bajillion other things I SHOULD be doing, but I feel like catching up on blogs/writing up a post! Especially after suffering through a migraine today, I don’t want to do anything related to work, haha!
Aww, I’m so sorry you had a migraine. Those are horrible!!
It’s always so nice to just take a break and blog!
Such a pretty dogwood tree! Love that shot (kudos to you for doing what it took to get a great shot, haha!).
Poor Jimmy! Christopher’s spring allergies have gotten worse over the past couple of years, but this year he discovered Xyzal and it has been so great for him! So if the local honey isn’t helping (he’s tried that in the past too) and Jimmy wants to try over the counter medication, maybe give it a try! 🙂
Ooh that Peach Whisper color is SO pretty! Great choice! I’m excited to see the final product!
Haha, thanks! I was thinking of you and all the crazy spaces and places and angles you’ve taken photographs in!
Thank you for the tip on Xyzal!! I’m so interested to see how the honey works, but it’s always good to have a backup! that’s reliable!
Thank you for the compliment on the paint color choice! I cannot wait to finally get the paint on the wall and see how it looks all finished!
