We’re finding our summer rhythms around here. Sunshine, homeschool lessons, Bible study, little adventures, and plenty of time outside have been filling our days!
Here are a few snapshots of life lately around here!
Toe Beans 🐾
Malcolm loves to nap on our bed in the day. He’s so peaceful that sometimes I just have to snap a picture. The best part? His little toe beans. Just look at those. 🥹
Trains 🚂
When Jimmy heard that the famous Big Boy 4014 steam locomotive would be rolling through Leetsdale, he and Mordecai headed out to see it. Big Boy is pretty special because it only hits the rails for select occasions and this year’s coast-to-coast tour is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. It’s also Big Boy’s first tour into the Northeast since 1941! It was a special opportunity for our train-lovers.
Sadie wasn’t too interested in seeing Big Boy, so I brought her, her friend, and Dakota to Chick-Fil-A for a little girls’ night!
Mordecai hasn’t stopped talking about Big Boy since he saw it with Jimmy, so I ordered this book in at the library and he was thrilled!
It’s so neat to see Mordecai start to develop his own interests!
Togetherness 🫶🏻
We’ve had lots of moments of togetherness this week. My mom and dad came home from their second home in North Carolina and we were so happy to have them back! My mom spent the day with us and we brought her to the pool. In the evening, we took the kids to get frozen yogurt.
We also had my sister’s family over one day, and it was so nice spending time together. Cousins and siblings really are the best.
I introduced Sadie to my stencils and washi tape and we had a blast journaling together. 💛
We filmed a vlog of our day!
Dakota helped me bake lemon poppy seed muffins! We added lemon curd to the center of them and they turned out really well. I’ll share the recipe soon. 😊
We did some school lessons, too. Mordecai is really enjoying learning his letters and numbers. We’ve been using this math workbook lately.
Other Notes and Thoughts 📝
- Scripture I’m loving: Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your heart to him, God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8. 🙏🏻
- Recipes to try: Cinnamon vanilla biscotti, chocolate cherry granola, and crunchy snack mix. 🍫
- Mordecai is obsessed with these. Our yard looks like it has rubber confetti everywhere. 🎈
- The only thing taming my wild hair in the Pittsburgh summer humidity. 🦁
- We did a fun kid activity recently: We crushed sidewalk chalk into a powder, mixed it with a little water, and used paint brushes to paint with it on our back patio. Kept the kids busy for a bit! 🎨
