January Weekend Fun

What does a January weekend look like? For us, it looked like family time, playing in the snow, and baking!

The kids think it is endlessly cool to play on our bed, so we made sure to do that on Friday when we wanted to wear Mordecai out before a nap 😉

Once he was finally down, Sadie and I sat down to do her schoolwork. She has days where she’s meh about it and days where everything just flows. This day was a flow day. So thankful for those good days!

Jimmy took down our Christmas lights once he got home from work. I fed the kids dinner and then I went out by myself for a bit. It’s good for my soul to spend time alone every now and then.

I went to a few stores and came home with a dog bed for Niva’s crate and a backpack to carry Malcolm in on walks (yes… I will carry my cat in a backpack while on a walk 🫣).

Saturday morning looked like cinnamon rolls with a side of Niva.

Jimmy went into work for a couple of hours, I cleaned up the house, and got the kids ready to go to Jimmy’s mom and step dad’s house for the morning.

While the kids were away, I went to the grocery store. We were about to get a few inches of snow and it was a madhouse there! Full parking lot and people in the store rushing around before the snow started.

I just needed to grab a few produce items and counted around 20 items, give or take, so I used the express self checkout. I got pulled aside by a worker afterwards. She told me the express lane was recently changed to 15 items max and told me I had 27. Yikes!! I apologized and will now keep in mind: 15 items or less next time I use the self checkout, lol.

Once I got home, it started to snow! Someone was happy about her favorite weather…

I got to work baking chocolate-dipped coconut biscotti for a special order. I used this recipe and it came out great.

I did some laundry and then the kids and Jimmy came home. By this point, we had a few inches of snow so I took the kids outside on their sled. I had been dreaming of doing this for months and the experience did not disappoint!

Listen, I know Mordecai looks freaked out in the above picture but he had a blast!!

We played for a bit then the kids had bath time, we did dinner, and then all ran as fast as we could from the house to the hot tub 😜

It was exhilarating to be in the hot tub at night with snow on the ground! After hot tub time it was off to bed. Sadie and I read a chapter of Puss in Boots and then crashed 😴

Now it’s Sunday! We are headed to church as I type up this post.

What did your weekend look like?

    Love You!
    dad
    🙂

    1. I gave mom some for you guys to have with coffee! Hopefully she actually shared with you 😜

I haven’t brought him out in the backpack yet (too cold) but I absolutely will. I am a weirdo, I know. I just love Malcolm and want him to go on family walks with us haha!

    1. It’s a unique and cool experience for sure!! I definitely have never ran as fast as I have when going from the house to the hot tub in January, I’ll tell ya that! 😂

Hahah, yes! Mordecai definitely prefers warmer weather. He ended up adjusting and had fun once he realized mom would pull him on a sled!

  2. Glad you all had a lovely weekend! It looks like the perfect blend of family time and relaxation.

We had a second ‘Christmas Day’ on Sunday with my sister’s family, as they were sick during actual Christmas. And my brother came as well as it was his birthday, so we had a double celebration 🙂 We cooked a big dinner (home-made nut roast as we’re all vegetarian, roast potatoes and lots of veg, and onion gravy) and exchanged gifts afterwards. Nice to spend time with them all!

    1. Yes! My favorite kind of weekend for sure 😊

A second Christmas sounds delightful! It’s like reliving the holiday season one more time and I’m sure it brought you joy during January! How neat that you’re all vegetarian! That must make things a lot more simple with meal planning!

  3. I was soooo excited when we got a bit of snow over the weekend! I knew all the grandkids would be so excited!!! Sled riding and snowman building galore.
I’m glad you’re such a rebel at the grocery store – I prob would have brought the entire cart to the service desk for a refund because calling someone out for too many items in a check-out aisle is ridiculous. Be glad I wasn’t with you…
The pics of the kids in the snow and hot tub are the cutesttttt!
    Love you,
    Madre

    1. It was so much fun to get out in the snow. Seeing it all through the eyes of a child is downright magical.

Hahah you crack me up! I am glad you weren’t with me at the grocery store then 😜

      Love you so much! ❤️

  4. Okay, first of all, I can’t believe that someone actually pulled you aside due to your having too many groceries in the checkout aisle. Wow! They really enforce their rules there. Ha, ha! That must have been a bit awkward!
My kids are enjoying the snow we just got over the weekend too! Our weekend looked like sick days, because we’re getting over a round of COVID. But better now than next week; because we travel, come Sunday. Thankfully everyone is doing a whole lot better!

    1. RIGHT!! Like why! It was so awkward and I just had to laugh about it.

I bet you guys have oodles of snow up North!! So sorry you guys had COVID but also glad you got it out of the way before traveling. I hope you have a great time wherever you go!
