Back porch with string lights

Currently: September 2020

Hello September! I’m not sure how it’s the ninth month of 2020 already, but here we are. What is September like where you live? It’s generally still warm here in Pittsburgh, but the daylight fades faster, the mornings have a slight chill, and the leaves begin to change colors.

Here’s what’s currently going on in my life this month.

Current excitement Starting homeschool with Sadie this week! We’re going to be using the Abeka preschool for 2s program. If anyone is interested, I’ll post a review after we’ve gone through the curriculum a bit!

Current blessing Family. You know when you have one of those rough days where you just need to cry and vent? I was having one of those and called my parents and sister and they all talked me off the emotional ledge, lol. Truly, it’s a blessing to have people who love and care for me.

Current food Sloppy joes. My recipe for sloppy joes isย so simple and uses pantry staples like ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and honey. I filmed a grocery shopping vlog recently that also shows how I cook sloppy joes!

Current fun Decorating for fall. I’ve been all about making our house feel festive and cozy lately!

Current craving A date night with Jimmy.

Current joy I’m going to be an aunt again! My sister and her husband are expecting their second baby in March ๐Ÿ™‚

Current books I finished up this novel and just started this one. I’m on a roll with Amish books lately. I’ve also been doing a deep dive into the book of 1 Samuel with this Bible study.

What’s current in your life?

  1. Congrats to your sister! Do you mind me asking why you’re choosing to home school? Have schools in your area remained closed due to the pandemic? I know for most kiddos in the early years school is so much more about learning about social queues and building relationships than it is about learning math equations, sentence structure, etc. ๐Ÿ™‚
    p.s. Loved your YouTube video!

    1. I will pass on the congrats to my sister!

I don’t mind you asking about homeschool at all! I’m not too sure what schools in our area are doing this year with the pandemic! We planned on pursuing homeschooling before Sadie was born because we are concerned with her soul more than academics. Our number one goal is to raise Sadie to love God and obey him, and we think we will achieve that best by homeschooling her.

I do know a lot of people think that homeschoolers are socially awkward, but it’s up to their parents to provide them with a lot of opportunities to socialize. We know plenty of kids who have been homeschooled and have great social skills and have went on to marry, have friendships, families, and careers. We plan to have Sadie around kids her age at church, around our neighborhood, and with whatever else she is involved in!

While I absolutely love our country, I don’t think we are doing a great job with education. We are so behind other countries in important subjects (yet we spend the most money on education!) and Jimmy and I are not a fan of the government controlling what Sadie learns–like evolution.

I guess what I’m saying is that to us, her soul is the most important aspect of her schooling and we are thinking the best environment to educate her in is at home. Of course we may change our minds or who knows what will happen in the coming years, but that’s where we are at now! I hope that answered your question! If not, let me know and I will be happy to chat more!!

  2. Oh yes, family is such a blessing for that very reason! I’m so sorry you were having such a hard time, but I’m SO glad to hear that you had support. โค

And your back patio is so cute! I love the lights!
