Hey! Whew has it been a bit of time since I last blogged. Jimmy and I were busy with his dad’s wedding, then we packed up and took a trip to the Outer Banks! A much needed trip.
We were excited to get away one last time before we (Lord Willing!) become parents, but I don’t think we realized how much we needed to get away until we were there. A week of uninterrupted time together with none of our usual responsibilities was pure bliss and I cherished every second of it.
We rented a house in Kitty Hawk, and spent the week exploring the natural beauty of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We left at 4:00 AM on a Saturday and were at our rental by 1:00 PM. Just in time to unpack, hit the beach, and get some sun!
Our rental had a pool and hot tub, which were thoroughly enjoyed, especially because the weather was great for most of the week. I didn’t go in the hot tub since it’s not advised during pregnancy, but I definitely dipped my feet in 🙂
On Sunday, we went to church at our “home away from home” church, Son Rise Church of Christ. We have actually gotten to know the preacher and a few members there since we’ve visited a few times over the years, and it’s always fun to fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Outer Banks.
The rest of the week was spent either by the pool or ocean, enjoying coffee, or visiting different attractions.
Things We Did
-
- Visited Jockey’s Ridge State Park to watch the sun set
- Walked onto Jeanette’s Pier to look out over the ocean
- Visited Duck and walked along the boardwalk by the Currituck Sound
- Explored Roanoke Island Festival Park and the Manteo waterfront
- Had a delicious dinner at Miller’s Seafood and Steakhouse
- Enjoyed coffee from Island Perk, Front Porch Cafe, and Starbucks
- Climbed the Currituck Beach Lighthouse
- Window shopped at the Tanger Outlets in Nags Head
I think we had a great mix of relaxation and exploration! I know we finished off the week feeling rested, blessed, and so content! How about some pictures?
I just realized I have about a million more pictures I want to share, so I’m going to end the post here and share the rest in another post!
Jimmy and I had a safe trip home and dove back into “real life” with a special church fellowship (I filmed a vlog for it!), work, and lots of mowing (our grass grew so much while we were away!). I will be trying to catch up on blog reading and life in general this week 🙂
The Outer Banks is on my list of places to go for a beach vacation. It sounds like a great week!
You’ve got to go, Maureen! I think you guys (and Bailey!) would just love it there!
BABY BUMP! ❤ Okay, sorry, I just love that picture. Back to the point of this post – Hooray for a vacation! It looks and sounds like you guys had a wonderful trip! I'm so glad you had this time away just the two of you.
The video you put together was so sweet. I'm sure they will love that! My favorite quote: "You're both ducky and you quack me up" Hahaha! I also like how many people said "ditto" to what their spouses said. Christopher and I have totally done that before, haha!
Aww, thank you! I’m glad you like the bump! I am so enjoying it, too!
It was SO good to get away for a week, just the two of us! Thank you for the compliment on the video. I was cracking (quacking… lol) up at that quote too! It was so random and cute! The spouses saying ditto had me smiling so big! Being on the same page with big stuff like that is the best! ❤
The Outer Banks is truly one of my favorite places- so peaceful yet fun! Cannot wait to see the rest of your pictures.
Isn’t it just beautiful there?! I love it! Can’t wait to share the rest of the pictures 🙂
I’ve only been to a few places, but the most recent trip I took to TX with my sister and her bf was the best one by FAR!
Aww, YAY! So glad you three had fun in Texas! I can’t wait to read about your trip!
I have always, always, always wanted to go to North Carolina; and your pics make me want to go that much more! The Carolinas seem to be such a beautiful place to visit. Definitely added to my bucket list!! 🙂
And oh my goodness, your baby bump is just too precious! You are beautiful and glowing.
Getting away with your hubby was such a good idea. Nate and I made a point of doing it before Brady arrived, and I cherished that time away so much. 🙂
Nicole, you have to visit NC! It is amazing and just so beautiful! I’m glad it’s on your bucket list 🙂
Thank you so much for the compliments! The second trimester has been worlds better than the first and I feel so blessed to be feeling good these days!
I remember you and Nate getting away before Brady and thinking you two were so smart to do that!
Everything just sounds so relaxing—I can see how restful of a place it is!
It truly is! I hope you get a chance to visit someday, P!
What a relaxing trip. Did you guys stay at an Air BnB or did you stay at a hotel? Any recommendations?
Thanks for your comment, Lindsay! We rented a house through https://www.joelambjr.com/, which is a local rental agency in the Outer Banks. I’d definitely recommend them or Sun Realty (https://www.sunrealtync.com). My parents just recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk and said it was great, too!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this, so glad you guys had such a nice vacation together. The Outer Banks is amazing- I went there once in high school. So relaxing & beautiful!
It was seriously sooo nice to get away for a week! Isn’t the OBX just gorgeous! I’m so glad you can related to how amazing it is!
