My mom took this picture of Hannah and I outside of the Jolly Roger Restaurant. It’s one of the oldest Italian restaurants in the area, and it’s very uniquely decorated inside. The menu is pretty big, and my favorite dish is the broiled scallops. All meals come with hushpuppies, which is pretty awesome if you ask me.

I ate peanut butter from the jar while watching Hannah and my dad do Insanity one morning. That was fun.

Hannah and I tried to play volleyball, but I ruined it with my lackluster skills. I think I’ll stick with running and swimming.

I really don’t know what to say about this picture.

My family also walked on the beach one evening. It was so peaceful.

Other fun things we did:
-Went go-karting
-Played basketball in an arcade
-Painted our nails (my dad didn’t participate in this…)
-Slept in and did nothing until noon
-Read books on the beach
-Played frisbee on the beach
-Baked cookies
-Sat on our porch and watched the ocean
-Went souvenir shooping

We also went out to eat for dinner nearly every night. That was such a treat.

Outer Banks restaurants I personally recommend:
Outer Banks Brewing Station –>Try the black bean dip, seared tuna, and freshly baked bread.
Miller’s Seafood and Steakhouse –>Try the rockfish and hushpuppies–the hushpuppies are sweet and taste like funnel cake!
Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar –>I highly recommend the raw oysters on a half shell.

I ran three times while on vacation (yay for flat roads!), and on the last morning of my family’s stay, I watched the sun rise over the ocean as I ran. It was so gorgeous and I felt extremely blessed.

I felt even more blessed to come home after a long 10 hour drive to find a birthday gift from Kim at my house.

How sweet is that?! Thank you Kim! You know me so well 🙂

It was good to be away, but even better to come home!

What’s do you love about vacations?
I like lazing around with nothing to do. It feels so good to do nothing sometimes. I also love going out to eat and trying new foods.

  1. I’m glad you had such a good time Allie. It sounds awesome. I like vacations a lot for the simple joy of relaxing. I’m going up to Chambersburg next month and it will be so nice to not worry about work and just hang out and eat new foods like you said!

    1. I really did have a nice time! I’m so glad you will get a break in Chambersburg next month… I bet you are SO ready for that. Happy birthday to your mom, by the way!

  2. What a cute gift :). Obviously she knew you loved peanut butter!

Sounds like you had a great vacation, we haven’t been to the outer banks but I think Clay hopes to go one day and if we do, we will definitely go to those restaurants. I also like hushpuppies and some of the seafood places here have them too, they are tasty and fun to eat as an appetizer. It’s almost like cornbread too hehe. All of your pictures are cute too, it’s fun to read about your family going out of town and actually having an enjoyable time :).

    1. Yep, I looooove peanut butter. Probably way too much, haha.

I did have such a nice vacation. It was so good to just relax and do absolutely nothing sometimes. You and Clay should totally go to the OBX. I think you would enjoy it because it’s pretty laid back and both you and Clay would be able to experience the types of foods you like ;).

  3. I love going out to eat when I am on vacation. Love trying out new restaurants and cuisines! I’m not too good at volleyball either (it hurts my arms!!)

    1. She’s the best! I’m so glad I’m friends with her…. the peanut butter is just a bonus haha.

And that manatee… i yi yi. People were looking at us so strangely! I guess we deserved it 😉

  4. I’d be eating peanut butter with you. And I am sooooo wanting some of Awful Arthur’s oysters. Mmmm…. What a sweet gift from Kim! Practical too. I mean, peanut butter is never going to waste. And it’s a good source of protein. 🙂

  5. Aww! That’s so nice of Kim to send you a birthday gift! And my mom is definitely the person who would sit with a bag of candy or something while watching me work out hahah! It would follow with her saying, “Just watching you made me hungry”. 😉 I’m glad you had a great vacation! It looks like a great one!

  6. I’m glad that you and your family had such a great time on vacation! I love watching the sun rise on the beach…that is one of the most peaceful and calming scenes, in my opinion. And I cannot get over how much you and Hannah look alike in that first picture. Such pretty girls!

    1. Thanks! It was such a nice and relaxing vacation. I’m so glad we got to go! And Hannah and I… people always think we’re twins despite our 6-year age difference—yikes!

  7. LOL I bet it was fun to watch Hannah and your dad do Insanity! Sounds like an awesome time and great pictures to show 🙂 Happy Birthday again my friend, I still love how we are the same day! That is an awesome birthday gift too!

    1. It was definitely fun to WATCH haha. There’s something about watching people work hard that is actually really inspiring!

I hope YOU had an amazing birthday!

  8. Looks like you had a great time! What a perfect way to spend your birthday! When I am on vacation I love just being lazy too! I also like running on the beach 🙂
