Master Bedroom Overhaul Update IV

It has been quite some time since I last wrote an update about our bedroom overhaul! In January 2017, I started dreaming about decorating our master bedroom. Today, it’s a totally different space that we absolutely love.

Our bedroom started out as a blank canvas with a bed and mismatching nightstands (and one “nightstand” was actually stacked totes, lol) and that was pretty much it. The picture below is the only true “before” picture I have, probably because the rest of the room was just empty, haha.

Of course, I wanted this project to come together in like a week. You know–buy some new bedding, matching night stands, artwork, throw pillows, the works. That just wasn’t in our budget, and I’m actually really glad. I feel like each time I made even a super small update to our room, often months after the last one, I truly cherished and appreciated that update.

It also gave us time to figure out what we liked and only purchase things that we truly loved, instead of just rushing to fill the room and have the project finished. It has taken a long time for everything to come together, and I don’t know that the room will ever truly be finished, if that makes sense.

I once read that if you consider a room “finished” then it’s stagnant and kind of dead. I think I’ll always be switching things up and making changes, and I’m totally okay with that. That’s what keeps the room fresh and beautiful!

Slowly, I started to add in some decor and new bedding. I thought I wanted white bedding, but I was very, very wrong. Two of our pets have black fur, so that just wasn’t working! Thankfully the white bedding was inexpensive, and I learned it’s just a no-go for us in this season of life!

Over a few more months, I added in some decora bench, and a new comforter. Then Jimmy decided to make a bed for our room and that really brought everything together!

Jimmy started the bed around Valentine’s Day (what a sweet gift!) and we put it in our room in May. Since then, the room looks like such a different space! The picture below is what our master bedroom looks like now.

We are so happy with how the room has turned out (so far!) and can’t wait to see what types of updates we’ll be making in the future 🙂

A Few Things to Share

Hello and Happy Friday! Is anyone else confused on which day it is?! Having the Fourth of July on a Wednesday totally threw me off this week. It was so nice having a day off with Jimmy, though!

Did you do anything fun for the holiday? I went to a little barbecue at Jimmy’s work on the third, which was fun. I even brought Mavis along and she enjoyed meeting some of the people Jimmy works with. My dad went, too, since his office is about 15 minutes from Jimmy’s shop!

On the Fourth, we laid low and bought flooring for the nursery, Jimmy’s truck battery died while we were at Lowes (AAA to the rescue!), went to church, and watched fireworks in the evening. I also baked chocolate chunk cookies for our neighbor who has celiac disease.

I was super nervous I was going to make her sick from cross contamination or some other hidden form of gluten. I had Jimmy checking whether or not chocolate chunks had gluten and was washing all of our pans and supplies obsessively, lol. I can’t imagine actually living with celiac disease. Thankfully, the cookies came out great and our neighbor reported back that she loved them 🙂

I bought the flour from Walmart, and wanted to share that our grocery pickup experience from there that I mentioned in my last post was awesome! I’d definitely recommend it. I just ordered our groceries online, chose a pickup time, went to Walmart at that time, checked in at an outdoor kiosk, and a nice worker loaded our truck with our groceries. So simple!

See the picture below? That’s my favorite spot in our neighborhood. I just love walking the dogs on that street because its so quiet and the trees are so big and beautiful. In the morning, the sun pokes through the trees and it’s the best.

I have some other random things to share! First of all, have you heard of Altar’d State? It’s a Christian-based clothing store. It kind of reminds me of Anthropoligie mixed with Francesca’s Closet.

My mom and I popped in there a few weekends ago while we were hanging out and there was a huge sale going on, so I picked up two things I’m loving.

And this sign! One of my favorite scriptures.

I think that’s all the randomness I have to share this morning. I have lots of pregnancy updates as well, but I’ll save that for another post.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
