Four Thoughts

Hey hey and happy Wednesday! Sadie is currently taking a nap and I have a pile of laundry sitting next to me, but I’d much rather blog. So here I am 🙂

Just sharing a few thoughts and snapshots from the past week or so!

1. Sarris Candy

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but Jimmy and I live pretty close to a famous candy store called Sarris Candies. It’s fairly well known in America and I don’t know what it is, but their chocolate is some of the best I’ve ever had–it’s so smooth and creamy.

We decided to get out last night and take Sadie on her first trip to Sarris! The store has tons of candy, stuffed animals, and holiday displays. It’s safe to say that Sadie enjoyed all there was to see and mom and dad got stocked up on chocolate!

2. Bowling

Jimmy, Sadie, and I went bowling with our church over the weekend. I actually bowled better than I thought I would (I got a strike and a few spares!) and had fun catching up with family and friends. There’s just nothing like having fun with our church family!

3. Meal Prep

Another thing I don’t think I’ve mentioned here on the blog is how I do meal prep for Jimmy’s breakfast and lunches! Basically, I have a rotation of breakfast recipes I make and freeze for him. I also make a week or two of sandwiches in advance and freeze them.

I used to make his lunches each night and he would have a bagel for breakfast, but we started getting a bit more streamlined around the time Sadie arrived and it has been making our lives so much easier! Would anyone be interested in a full post on my method and the recipes we like to use?!

4. Making friends with problems

I was recently reading a devotion about treating persistent problems as something God can fit into a pattern for good (Romans 8:28) if we love, trust, and walk with Him through them.

Basically, problems can become a stumbling block and cause self pity, or we can see them as something that is transforming us into the person God wants us to be. The key is that we get to choose to make friends with difficulty and even learn to thank God for it or react with anger and distrust. It really resonated with me so I thought I’d share!

Well, I better get going because Sadie just woke up! Looks like the laundry will have to wait until later 😉

  1. That candy shop looks amazing. We have a few here, but nothing like that, where all the candy is locally-produced. Maybe it’s just not a thing in Charleston. Honestly, the most local thing here is beer and breweries- craft beer is huge here. I like that but would much rather go to a candy store.

We went bowling with Clay’s company a few weeks ago. I’m terrible at bowling but the college here has a league and some of them are great. There was also a special needs kid there who bowls and he was a rockstar. He was in the lane next to us and it was strikes and spares galore.

    1. So interesting you don’t have a candy shop like that in Charleston!! I can definitely see how each city in America has their own niche with things like craft beer, candy, BBQ, etc.! So fascinating!

I bet it was so fun to see the special needs boy bowling amazingly! I love hearing stuff like that 🙂

  2. I clicked on the link for Sarris…now I want all of the candy! It looks delicious.

For Christmas, Alex’s company went to this like bowling/karoke/ping pong place and it was a lot of fun to bowl and catch up with his coworkers.

I would love to hear your go to recipes for meal prep!

    1. Ahh, it’s so good!! Just as delicious as it looks, if not more!

I love the combo of bowling/ping pong/karoke!! That is so fun!

I will definitely put together a meal prep post!

  3. Oh my goodness YES I would be so very interested in how you meal prep, especially the sandwiches!! I’m always interested in trying new ways of meal prepping, specifically to make breakfasts and lunches easier, lol.

Bowling sounds like so much fun!! I think I’ve only ever been once, haha. What a great way to have fun with family and friends!

      1. Oh good! Can’t wait to read all your ideas! I’m always up for trying new things to make meal preparation easier haha.

I know, right?! And I hardly even remember going, so I definitely need to bowl again!

  4. How fun that you live so close to such a cool candy store! Sadie is going to have a lot of fun visiting there as she gets older. 🙂

I’d love to hear more about meal prep. I am always a fan of those posts! 🙂

    1. It really is such a treat (haha, get it?!) to live close to a neat candy store like Sarris! I have a feeling you’re right about Sadie really enjoying it there as she grows up 🙂

I will get a meal prep post up ASAP! Which probably isn’t very soon since… baby life… but I will get it up!!

  5. Awww, I love big candy factories like that!! We had one near us called B. Sweeties that we would go to every Easter. So special! I’ll definitely have to try their chocolate some day- glad y’all got so many goodies 🙂 Good job bowling—- that record is impressive. Also, so sweet how you make Jimmy’s breakfasts and lunches- I actually didn’t realize you could freeze sandwiches- but that is SO good to know (I mean it makes sense- I freeze cheese, meat, and bread already!).

Oh my gosh, I have my jaw on the floor because my pastor preached on this exact topic this past Sunday highlighting how they can be stumbling block or take us to a new level. It really resonated with me & this was just further confirmation. Thank you for sharing, Allie! ❤

    1. Aww, B. Sweeties sounds so cute and like such a great memory for you!

I just discovered I could freeze sandwiches about six months ago (I just tried it on a whim and hoped for the best!) and it has been life changing! Dramatic, but true when you prep two out of three of your husband’s meals to-go!

Soo crazy about your pastor preaching on the same topic! I have chills!!

  6. I love meal prep posts so do share! I’m a meal planner but not a meal prepper and I’d like to dabble in the latter a bit more and see if it’s a fit.

That candy store looks quite decadent and dangerous!! I’d want everything.

    1. Yay! I absolutely will! I finally photographed the process, so now I just need to find the time to write the post 😉

The candy store is totally dangerous for our wallet!! I’m glad it’s down the highway and not just down the street!
