My First Day with All Three Kids!

I made it through my first day with all three kids by myself! Woo hoo!

All in all, it was a good day! I started off at 5:00 am with coffee, Bible time, and feeding Dakota in bed. Then Jimmy was off to work around 6:00 am. After he left, I worked on tidying up the house, doing laundry, and wiping down our table and counters. By 7:00 am, Sadie was up for the day and joined me while I fed Dakota.

Mordecai slept in a bit(!) and then we all kicked off the day with breakfast and more coffee (for me 😬).

Between feedings, diaper changes, and naps for Dakota, we finally got out the door to go to the park mid-morning. It was so nice out! Sunny and in the 60s. Did it take me eons to get us all together, pack the diaper bag, and get the car loaded up? Yes, but it was good to just do it and start to find our new normal!

The kids had so much fun playing at the park and Sadie even met a new friend and ran around with him for a bit. She is very social, so outings like this really fill her cup.

We also packed up a lunch and Sadie and Mordecai thought it was so cool to have a picnic at the park!

Once it was time for Mordecai’s nap, we headed home and unloaded the lunch box, stroller, diaper bag, etc. Sadie was a big help with getting things in and out of the door. She is also always down to hold Dakota for me! She has even been changing Mordecai’s outfits lately. She is the sweetest 🫶

Once Mordecai was asleep, we went outside to do Sadie’s homeschooling for the day!

We used Peeps cereal to do her math equations 😬

Dakota was napping when we started school, but she woke up about halfway through so I fed her and we read I’m a Leprechaun and Sadie requested I read it with an Irish accent, lol. Once she was done eating, we read one more book (Pete the Cat: The Great Leprechaun Chase) while Sadie snuggled Dakota.

Then it was back to work! Dakota supervised Sadie’s spelling lesson 😉

Just as we finished up, Mordecai got up from his nap! We called our neighbor across the street and went to visit with her for a bit. Then, Jimmy came home from work and we started the evening! I folded laundry outside–swoon!–and we had dinner. Sadie also played at the park with some kids in our neighborhood (another win for our social butterfly 🦋).

Dakota cuddled up with Jimmy after dinner. She was looking like “Guys… you’re all too much for me!” 😂

I fed Dakota outside on our porch swing while Jimmy and Mordecai played with this sand toy and Mordecai’s bubble leaf blower.

Soon enough, Sadie was back from the park with the neighbor kids and it was bath and bedtime for everyone. The day flew by and the weather felt like such a gift from God! I went to bed smiling and thanking Him for a great day that I had been very nervous about!!

My thoughts on the day:

  • It went better than I expected! 🎉
  • It still had its challenging moments (Mordecai and Dakota crying at the same time during dinner felt stressful!).
  • Sadie asked me to run with her at the park and I had to say no since I’m only 2 weeks postpartum. I felt so bad!
  • I felt very loved; Jimmy, some of my family, and friends made sure to check in on me! My friend Laura even sent me a Starbucks gift card as a “you can do it!” gift and I was so touched! As a mom of three herself, she must know how much I need coffee 😬 Our friend Bernadette made us dinner and it was so nice not to have to think about cooking that night!

There you have it, my first day with all three kids! It had its highs and lows and I can honestly say it was a great start to our everyday life as a family of five 🤍
