Life Lately: Newborn Edition + A Vlog

Guys, I have so many pictures and thoughts and emotions to share!! How can I describe life lately? Sweet and blessed and emotional and joyful and sometimes challenging but the best days of my life.

We are working on settling into our new life as a family of five! Right now, we are in that weird, hazy newborn period where our schedule is nonexistent and we’re confused that regular life is going on around us.

People are going to work every day and living their normal lives we’re here learning how to keep three little ones fed and bathed and happy. It’s such a joyful time and also so short. I know I will miss these newborn days the way I miss Mordecai’s newborn days.

These days have been so special with the kids and Jimmy. We get to be a family with our new little buddy! Sadie absolutely loves picking out Dakota’s outfits and helping in any way possible. She is such a proud big sister and wants to hold her 24/7.

Mordecai has been exceptional as well. I was curious as to what he would think of Dakota and the truth is that he loves her so much!

Sadie has surrounded her with love and stuffies!

I’ve already forgotten diapers while going out. Ooops! I’m going to blame that on the lack of sleep 😉. Speaking of going out, Miss Dakota has been bowling! She went twice while in the womb and it was fun to take her outside the womb.

She has also been on a few walks, gone to Sadie’s coding lesson, visited Jimmy’s work, been to the doctor, the birth center, the grocery store, and church. She’s been a busy girl and mommy definitely overdid it in terms of not taking it easy post-birth. I’m working on slowing down a little bit better 😇

I have a bunch more thoughts, but for now, how about a bunch of pictures?!

One of my favorite things lately has been our mornings in bed! We sleep till whenever the kids get up, make coffee, and everyone snuggles in our bed. I can’t get enough of those morning cuddles… and the coffee!! We finally got a new coffee maker (Jimmy found one with an app and can start it from his phone 😍) since our old one broke. It’s so nice to have drip coffee back in our lives.

Bible time and an early morning feed! Thankfully breastfeeding is going well thus far. This was one of the hardest things at this point with Sadie, so I am super thankful to God that we have had a smooth journey so far.

I was reading through the notes from the birth and loved this one where the midwife checked on Dakota’s vitals and charted that she was snuggling with Sadie. Those girls do a lot of snuggling! Sadie has actually been a huge help with Dakota. She is always willing to hold her and hang out, grab things for me, throw away diapers, etc.!

Sadie makes sure Dakota has a bow on first thing each morning. Too cute. It’s such a trip to see her in Sadie’s bows (check out the last picture in this post to see baby Sadie wearing the same bow 🥹)

If you know Mordecai, one of his favorite things is to suck his thumb and play with someone’s hair. Whoever he is near or whoever is holding him, he loves to play with their hair and suck that thumb. He found some new hair to play with 😂

Dakota’s first church service wore her out! It was amazing to snuggle with her during church after nine months of having her inside me during church services 🤍

Does it get any sweeter than this 🥰

First grocery store visit! She slept right through it, haha.

I have made it my mission to get outside every day since birth. We’ve had a few warm days where we took walks as a family and it was the best.

I can’t wait to see the relationship these two have! I’ve been calling them Deck and Dak which confuses Jimmy and Sadie to the max because they never know who I mean because their names sound too similar!

Before this post gets too long, here’s a vlog from day four of Dakota’s life! We did a vlog when Mordecai was four days old, so it’s neat to have one at the same time for Dakota!! Sadie stinkin’ loves filming these and looking back on them (she wants to vlog *every day*) and I am always glad I have these memories compiled!

Okay, I have lots more to talk about–all the emotions and deeper thoughts from life lately–but I just wanted to pop in quickly and share some photos from our little newborn hazy/joyful time of life!! We are feeling so thankful to God for this special time as a family.

Thank you for reading 🙂

  1. Ahhh I am so behind!!! I missed the birth announcement, so please forgive my late congrats!! What a sweet angel you have added to your family. The kids response to her warms my heart.

  2. I LOVE the pics in this post! Sadie and Decky are adjusting so well to Dakota joining the family. Their love for her (and you and Jimmy) is shown by their precious smiles and hugs.

    You’re doing an amazing job!

    Love, Madre
