Weekending

How was your weekend? We had our weekly Friday night Bible study (check out the kielbasa butter bean recipe here 🙂) and Saturday was a busy day! Jimmy took Sadie to work with him in the morning and made some progress on the floors in the homeschool room. The room used to have carpet, but we ripped it up and are doing polished concrete floors (with a rug or play mat on top because… kids 👧👦).

Carpet to polished concrete flooring before and after

Before we started, the carpet was beat, stained, and just done. Once we ripped the carpeting up, we spent a ton of time getting the carpet glue off the ground. Jimmy and I had a “date night” last week where we spent a few hours laying down paint thinner and scraping the floor. Saturday was all abound grinding and smoothing the concrete. I think our next step is to polish and seal it. Then we can move on to fun things like painting and putting together furniture!

While Jimmy and Sadie were at work, Mordecai and I ran to the store for a few things. He’s a pretty good shopping buddy 🥰

In the afternoon, we had something fun planned! Niva and I were scheduled for a therapy visit at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in the afternoon. This was the perfect opportunity for Jimmy and the kids to see us in action and also tour the museum while we worked.

We arrived and got set up and kids were lined up to see the dogs (two other therapy dog/handler teams were with us)! We visited with lots of families. I would guess we saw close to 50 people and Niva loved every second of it.

We were there for Youth Mental Health Awareness Day and provided therapy as well as education about what therapy dogs do. One of the other therapy dog and handler teams there was in the same training class Niva and I were in so it was cool to reunite. Most of our therapy visits are just me and Niva with the people we visit with. I really enjoyed switching it up and working with other teams.

Jimmy said the kids loved the museum!

Once we got home from our outing, it was dinner time, bed for Mordecai, and hot tub time for Jimmy, me, and Sader Tot. While we were getting dinner ready, our neighbor texted us…

Text about dog eating a rabbit

Yes, Niva is a therapy dog. Yes, she still chases raccoons into trees and eats rabbits 😆

Sunday was Mother’s Day! I woke up to Sadie hovering over me around 6:00 am. She was ready to give me Mother’s Day gifts she and Jimmy worked on. She drew a beautiful scene on a kraft bag and inside it was a Super Mario/Mother’s Day-themed shirt, a candle, a book about what Sadie loves about me, and some creams from Burt’s Bees. So sweet!

We had breakfast, grabbed Starbucks, and went to church.

Mother’s Day… I wish I had the words to sum up motherhood in a cute blog post. But I don’t. It’s the most life-changing, hard, amazing, beautiful thing I have ever had the privledge to go through. Becoming a mother has been transformational and the biggest growth-inducing experience of my life. It’s one of the biggest blessings (along with my marriage and faith in God) in my life. Like, I get to wake up every day to these two sweet children? They look to me for so much: comfort, sustinence, education, fun, and more. I don’t have what it takes to be everything to them (hello, I am a sinner!), but with God, I am doing my best every day to be the mom they need.

We went to the park in the afternoon and that was about it for the day. It was a perfect way to relax. I’m not one for fancy meals out or events… just being outside on a sunny day and taking goofy pictures with my people is more than enough!

And that’s a wrap for our weekend! Fun fact for the day: Mordecai was born exactly 18 months ago.

I’ve got a busy week on deck. An audiologist appointment, therapy visit with Niva, a day hanging out with my sister and her kids, two big Etsy orders to complete (one for birthday oreos and one for baby shower oreos!), and highland cow cupcakes to bake and assemble for a friend’s baby shower. Add in the usual homeschool routine, cooking, laundry, and cleaning and you’ve got the recipe for my week! With that said, I am off to the races.

How was your weekend?

What do you have planned this week?
