On Sunday morning, my body decided it had been too long since I was last sick. It was like “You know, Allie, you haven’t had a fever in quite a while. Ohh, let me throw in a dash of nausea, too!” 😂
I tried to ignore it. I got ready for church and forced myself to drink coffee. We took a cute family picture!
The morning did not play out well. I made it through the first hour of church and then we headed home because I was not feeling too hot. Moral of the story? Listen to your body 😉
Sunday and Monday looked a lot like this: me fighting a fever, Sadie saying “Mom, watch me do this show!” in the living room and Mordecai crawling all over me.
And you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Being forced to sit down and just do nothing with my kids was really special 🤍
I have sweet memories of laying amidst stuffed animals on Sadie’s bedroom floor, playing a made-up drawing game, and cracking up with my favorite girl. I have the memory of Mordecai practicing his crawling on me! I have the memory of eating quite a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with the kids over the past couple of days as those were the only thing that sounded good and are my ultimate comfort food.
Thankfully the thing with fevers and nausea is that they don’t typically last too long. By Monday night, I was feeling 80% better! Also, nobody else in our family has gotten sick, so that’s a blessing 😊
Other happy things from life lately have included:
- Playing an alphabet game with Sadie as a way to work on her letter sounds
- Enjoying the fall weather here in Pittsburgh (when it’s not raining!)
- Reading this book before bed each night
- Watching Sadie get more proficient in putting together Lego sets by herself
- Training Niva at the craft store
- Making a baby obstacle course for Mordecai
- Going to a local bookstore and picking out a cute book with Sadie
- Taking the kids to Hobby Lobby to grab some baking supplies
- Cooking one of Jimmy’s favorite meals
How about some pictures of all the good stuff?!
Sadie finished The Good and the Beautiful Kindergarten Prep curriculum and was *not quite* ready to move onto the kindergarten language arts curriculum so I decided to take a week or two to “game school” with her to work on fine-tuning her letter sounds. We’ve been playing Alphabet Island and using a Playfoam set to make the shapes of letters while we practice the sounds.
The foliage is just gorgeous right now!
Niva has continued to surprise me with her training. I brought her to the craft store (it was our “homework” from her class) and she focused really well. I thought she would be pulling me through the aisles at warp speed, but she listened, practiced commands, and got lots of love from all the customers! I asked Jimmy if he wanted to join me and then laughed because I was asking my husband to go to a craft store with me and the dog while I was wearing a ~super stylish~ fanny treat pack. That was a pass for him, haha.
I’m taking advantage of Mordecai being okay with shopping at Hobby Lobby with me as much as possible. I know in a few years he won’t want to be in a craft store with mom! We picked up some supplies for a ladies’ event at our church and for Mordecai’s smash cake for his birthday party (<– how is he almost a year old?!).
While my comfort food is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Jimmy’s is salisbury steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. Each week I ask him for a meal request for me to cook for dinner and it’s usually this or something Italian 😂
Week two of therapy dog training is in the books! See the table behind Niva? We had to work on pretending to sign in at a hospital or care facility while our dog waited beside us. What did miss Niva do? She jumped on the table 🥴
These two! Love them so much.
Sadie has been getting better and better at putting together Legos on her own! The creator sets seem to be just right for her skill level.
Love playing outside with the kids. Mordecai crawls everywhere, Sadie wants to pretend to be unicorn cats, and Niva plays keep-away with her tennis ball while running at 87 mph.
I had an order for pumpkin spice cheesecake cupcakes. They were all ready for me to decorate with cream cheese frosting.
The finished product 🧡
Now to end this post with a laugh. I saw the above picture and literally laughed out loud. I have the weirdest sense of humor, I know 😜

I’m so glad you’re feeling better and that your sickness was mostly shortlived AND that no one else caught it!!
Love all the happy pics in this post.
And I obviously very much approve of those beautiful, pumpkin cupcakes!! Ha, ha!
Life has been so busy but so happy on my end lately. It’s busy photography season, and that will be coming to a close soon. I just feel so happy and blessed by the little things of life. 🙂
Same here! So many blessings amidst a little bit of sickness!! Thanks for the compliment on the cupcakes, too. Yay for a busy photography season! I hope you post some pictures of your work. I always love seeing them 🙂
I’m sorry you got sick but glad to hear it didn’t last long!
So many lovely happy things in this post 🙂
Something happy from my life is my upcoming trip to Madrid. It’s only for a few days but I’m excited to leave work behind for a while! I had a 12-hour day on Tuesday and it’s just so tiring being in front of the screen for so long. Definitely a case where I should have listened to my body and taken more regular breaks!
Thank you, Grace!!
Have so much fun in Madrid and enjoy the time away from work 🙂
Lol the last pic
Sorry you weren’t feeling well but also glad you listened to your body and rested!
You get the humor hahah!!
YES to listening to your body. Why is it so hard sometimes?!
