I mentioned that we started a homeschool co-op last week. I didn’t mention that I get to help my sister teach preschool science at the co-op! If anyone has been reading my blog since 2011, you’ve seen my little sister grow up.
We used to play school, and she would even play school with Jimmy. She is meant to do this and she’s great at it. I love, love, love seeing my sister succeed and fulfill her dreams.
Standing in the back of the classroom and watching Hannah do her thing was like a full circle moment for me. All those times we would pull out workbooks and sit behind TV trays and learn and play came rushing back.
Speaking of the co-op, I’ve been busy preparing lesson plans for the American holidays I’m teaching about throughout the year. We covered patriotic holidays last week and the next lesson will be on Columbus Day. My kitchen counter was full of worksheets and plans and sterilized breast pump parts 😂
Our kitchen counters have also seen lots of cupcakes lately! Specifically apple cider cupcakes. I worked on some orders and have been planning the next batch of fall cupcakes.
I’ve been reading through some of the Old Testament in the Bible and have been in Daniel for the past week or so. Sometimes I just love re-reading stories in the Bible that I think I know so well. Every time I read through them again, something else pops out at me.
I was reading the classic Daniel in the lions’ den story in chapter six. The satraps and administrators were jealous of Daniel and how he conducted himself but couldn’t find anything wrong with his character or conduct so they attacked how he carried out his faith. I want to be like Daniel–where the only thing “wrong” people can find with my character is how devoted I am to God.
The administrators and satraps convinced the king to make a law that everyone had to pray to the king only because they knew Daniel couldn’t carry out that law. The penalty for breaking the law was being thrown in the lions’ den.
What stuck out to me was this verse:
Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. Daniel 6:11
When times are tough, I want to be like Daniel–found praying and asking God for help. I kept reading, past the point where the lions don’t maul Daniel to death and the king rushes to the mouth of the lions’ den and asks Daniel if he was saved by his God and Daniel replied:
“May the king live forever! My God send his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done anything wrong before you, Your Majesty.” Daniel 6:21-22
Daniel’s response reminded me that *I* don’t have to figure everything out. Daniel wasn’t saved because he fought the lions. He was saved because he did what was right in God’s eyes and God sent his angel to help him.
I finally got our front porch all gussied up for fall. I have yet to decorate the inside, but hopefully I’ll make it happen this week. I can’t wait to get out our fall books, too.
It kinda depends on how our little Sader Tot is feeling! We had a whirlwind weekend with her. She was totally fine all day Saturday and then Saturday night she started complaining that it hurt to swallow food.
From there, she went downhill really fast. Her temperature was 103 by bedtime and I don’t think anyone got much sleep that night. I took her to urgent care on Sunday morning and found out she has strep throat. The doctor called in antibiotics to our pharmacy and we were set to leave but Sadie’s temperature was 103 so the doctor gave her more medicine and wouldn’t let us go until her fever lowered.
She got switched to a room with a bed so she could sleep while we waited. I think the doctor re-checked her temperature three times and it just wasn’t getting better. She was going to send us to the emergency room if it was still high on the fourth check but it finally went down to 101!
As soon as the medicine wore off that afternoon, her temperature was up to 105. Ugh. I know that’s danger-level high so we got her in a lukewarm bath and gave her ibuprofen.
She spent the day fighting the fever, sleeping, and trying to eat and drink but it hurts her to swallow. I feel so bad! Hopefully today will be better for her as the antibiotics kick in. Also praying Mordecai doesn’t catch it 🥴
Since I don’t want to end this post on a negative note, enjoy these pictures of our little family before the strep throat saga happened!

I love your family pics! And also the story of Daniel- def one of my faves.
I’m glad your fall cupcakes were such a hit! I’ve been praying fervently for Sadie to feel better soon, and be back to her joyful little self 🥰
I remember Han teaching so many people! Me,
You, dad, Jimmy, Melissa, Bre and Molly – she def did her practice teaching at a young age!
I have had strep throat- as an adult- and it was absolutely horrible. I know she has been in a lot of pain- and with a high fever too 🥹🥹🥹

Thank you! She was pretty miserable for a few days there. Thankfully she’s back to her spunky self 🙂
