What’s making me happy lately

Hello and happy Tuesday! I just wanted to pop in and share some things that have been making me happy lately. I’m just going to jump right in!

Lola with yarn

Lola isn’t a typical dog in that she doesn’t like to play–not with toys, people, or dogs. Her favorite things are food, laying on the couch, and taking long walks. I was super surprised when my mother-in-law and sister-in-law came over last week to teach me how to crochet and Lola was transfixed by the yarn. She didn’t do anything, but I could tell she was enthralled. The next day, she came inside after her morning bathroom break and ran over to my ball of yarn and started ripping it apart and playing with it! It was the cutest thing.

Date nights

Before Jimmy and I were married, we went on dates a few times a month because we only saw each other on the weekends. Now that we’re married and living together, we’re with each other all the time (yay!), but we tend to focus on house work or other activities in our free time. We went on a date night over the weekend for the first time in months, and it was spectacular. We used a gift card we were given for Red Lobster and then browsed around some local stores. Catching up over a meal we didn’t have to cook or clean up after was lovely, and we had a blast window shopping! Must do that more often 🙂

I’ve been doodling each morning when I write in my journal and read my Bible. It’s a fun way to relax and express creativity. Also, I want a cat.

Enjoying the great outdoors

It’s so easy to stay cooped up in the winter when it’s cold outside. Thankfully I have Lola to give me the please walk me now look, which gets us outside each day. Even if we’re only out for ten minutes, I always feel great afterwards. Fresh air works wonders!

I got to work from home (kind of!) for the first time last week. The family I work for is having their house renovated, so their kitchen is currently out of commission. I typically bake and cook for them each week, so I made some food in my kitchen and then dropped it off at their house. I made granola, bread, chili, meatballs, homemade pasta sauce, and spaghetti. The only downfall? I was totally unmotivated to cook dinner for Jimmy and I that night, haha.

Indoor gardening

Last month, I mentioned that Jimmy and I bought new windows for our house. Jimmy, stud that he is, made a special windowsill in our kitchen for me to start an herb (and palm tree, ha) garden! I planted basil, oregano, cilantro, rosemary, parsley, and chives. Everything is starting to grow, and it makes me incredibly happy. I’m already dreaming of gardening outside in a few months. Can’t wait!

What’s making you happy lately?

  1. What, what, WHAT?!? Did you draw that kitty free-hand? I am soooo unbelievably impressed! I can’t even draw stick figures very well, so I am beyond impressed whenever I see adorable drawings like that. 🙂 Want to illustrate a children’s book for me? Well, I haven’t written a children’s book yet… But I think about it sometimes. And if I ever do, would you illustrate it for me? Ha, ha! (It’s fun to dream, right??) 🙂

    1. I was looking at another picture while I drew it, but it’s freehand! Thank you for the compliment!! I’d love to team up and illustrate a children’s book!! How fun would that be?! You never know 🙂

  2. Things making me happy: my boss and I talking about running for three hours today, the way my cat always wants my attention and makes me feel needed, getting a free pair of shoes, the way my coach believes in me, having two jobs that help me pay bills. God is so good!

    1. Well, cooking and baking is a part of my job, but not the whole description! I do a little bit of everything–cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, nannying, bookkeeping, errands, etc.! It keeps me busy, and the cooking/baking is definitely my favorite part!

  3. That’s a pretty neat job Allie and it seems like it’s right up your alley. I’m glad you get to do that. I also really like the doodles. Well done on those!

  4. The kitty picture is so cute! I’m glad you and Jimmy got to have a date night. My company sent me a Longhorn gift card for spending 7 years there, and Clay and I plan to use it soon for a date ourselves. You can’t beat a date night with a gift card.

    1. Aww, thanks Amy!! I’m so happy we had a date night, too. It was something we didn’t know we needed until we had it, you know?! We were like “Oh, that was so nice!!” haha. How sweet that your company sent you a Longhorn gift card for 7 (!!!) years of working for them. That’s amazing. I hope you and Clay have a nice date using your gift card 🙂

  5. Oh my gosh that kitty drawing is so cute. My doodles are umm, stick figures.

I love the herb garden and palm tree. I bet it brings a smile to your face to walk into that room and see the cheerful plants.

That’s awesome that Lola loved the yarn. You found a “toy” for her.

  6. You.Are.So.Talented. Look at your art work! And you are learning to crochet! And all that delicious food you made for the family you work for. Amazing! Also you are inspiring me to batch cook again. Seeing all the food on the counter reminded me that it’s been a bit since I did freezer meals!
