All Sorts of Exciting Things

Hey hey! I have all sorts of excitement to share today. Some things big, some small. All blessings!

First of all, my dad was ordained as an elder in our church on Sunday. Serving as an elder isn’t an easy job, but I know he’s going to do great. I really look up to my dad for so many reasons, but most of all for his faith in God. It amazes me that he he runs two successful businesses, studies God’s Word each day, serves in our church, and still takes time to do things like read and comment on my blog. He’s an awesome guy and I feel very blessed to call him my dad.

Another big exciting thing: my cousin is now a police officer! He graduated from the police academy in Upstate New York on Saturday and my parents, bother, and sister-in-law made a quick trip to see him.

Okay, let’s talk about the weather. Last week in Pittsburgh, it was cold. We often woke up to temperatures in the negatives and high temperatures were in the teens and twenties if it was a “warm” day. Yesterday, it was in the 30s and snowy and I was so happy! After the bitter cold of last week, 30 degrees has never felt so balmy! How’s the weather where you are?

Moving on to pet sitting, I finally created a business name and website! For years, I was just Allie Zottola… the pet sitting girl that people knew and would recommend. Now, I am the owner and operator of Muddy Paws Pet Sitting and I couldn’t be more excited! I didn’t think I’d ever have enough regular clients to warrant my own business, but God has been very good to me. Maybe I’ll talk about this more in another post?!

Speaking of businesses, my sister opened an Etsy shop! As if she wasn’t busy enough with nursing school and the million other things she does. I don’t know how she does it all. She’s currently selling hand lettered canvases. Go Hannie!

Other exciting things:

  • Jimmy and I should be getting a SunBasket (meal kit) delivery today! Can’t wait to try it out.
  • Our basement now has “smart” light switches. Jimmy wired recessed lighting into our basement and added some high-tech light switches that we can control from our phones. I just need to figure out how to do that 😉
  • Jimmy has his second violin lesson tonight. I don’t think I mentioned it, but I gave him a violin + lessons for Christmas. So far, it has been introductory stuff, but he’s excited to start playing!
  • Our little therapy dog in training has been to the Dollar Tree (twice!), TJ Maxx, and the bank and did great interacting with people!
  • I just got a new dog and cat cookbook in the mail yesterday and I can’t wait to start reading it. Does that make me a total dork?

Okay, I think that’s all the excitement I have to share! Well, one last thing, but it’s a question. My cousin’s daughter is turning one soon and I’m not sure what to get her for her birthday. Any suggestions?

What exciting things have been happening in your life lately?

Currently: November 2017

Current book The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. I’ve been reading a few pages each day during my devotion time. I’m not reading anything for leisure, though. Any recommendations?!

Current obsession Having our pets complete “puzzles” to earn their food. Our trainer recommended using puzzles to keep Mavis’ mind busy, and we got all the animals involved. It has been really neat to watch each of the pets figure out the puzzles. Lola is definitely the best because nothing gets between her and her food 😉

Current indulgence Napping when Mavis is sleeping!

Current beauty product Micellar Water. I was skeptical of how well it would work, but this stuff is amazing at cleansing and I love the fact that I don’t have to rinse it off!

Current procrastination Painting our office. I have a paint sample on the wall that has been sitting there for months. Eek! Maybe I’ll get that done by the end of the year?

Current goal Still wanting to finish writing my book by the end of the year but I’ve been majorly slacking lately. Well, not slacking, just very busy!

Current craving A weekend away with Jimmy, perhaps a visit to West Virginia?

Current mood Happy and hopeful. Mavis had her second puppy level II class on Monday and did great! I’m really hoping, praying, and working toward having her become a therapy dog so we can visit hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc. together. It’s a lot of work, but we are both loving it!

Current food Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I’m working on perfecting a recipe. I have the texture and flavor down, but need to experiment with a different type of chocolate chips. I take my baking seriously!

Current blessing Having Jimmy home safely from his trip.

Current confession I feel totally behind on my real estate work. When I began working for my parents’ business, I thought I would mostly be doing that, and sprinkling in pet sitting to fill in the gaps. It has actually been the other way around, with pet sitting becoming a full time gig. There’s a lot of upkeep and things to be done in the real estate world, so I often find myself wishing there were a few more hours in the day. Either way, having too much work is quite the blessing. I’m definitely not complaining!

Pet sitting has been keeping me busy!

Current need Totally random, but I need socks. I’ve been stealing Jimmy’s when I run out (I totally fit his socks because I have biiig feet!) and he’s not too happy about it. I’ve heard these are a good brand, so maybe I’ll order them soon.

Current excitement The upcoming holiday season! This time of year is so incredibly special.

Current drink Coffee with peppermint mocha creamer. My mom had me try this combo when I slept over last week and it was delicious. Remember when I first blogged about her obsession with this creamer? It’s still going strong 😉

Current prayer A family in our church had their baby in the NICU for months and months, and she was cleared to go home but is now back in the hospital. I’m praying for health for her and strength for the family.

Current question Where would you travel for a weekend trip?
