Chocolate Elevator, Third Child Life, and Secret Books

We brought Sadie to her computer coding class and there was an elevator to get upstairs to the class. Mordecai and Sadie both love elevators. Me? Not so much. In fact, I once swore I would never ride in one again after being trapped in one with a group of people and my mom. I’ve overcome that fear a tiny bit and decided we could ride in it.

We stepped inside and Sadie said “I like this elevator! It’s so chocolate-y!” and you know… it did look a bit chocolate-y 😂

Want to know how Dakota is living her best third child life? Sadie dressed her in an American Girl Doll dress 😂

She has also taken a nap on Sadie’s school desk at Jimmy’s work, swaddle and all. And somehow slept through the noise of loud kids and a welding shop on the other side of the wall?!

She also took a morning nap at Starbucks while we did school (and mom drank some much-needed coffee 😇). Still totally addicted to Starbucks Sunsera blend!

Speaking of school at Starbucks… I mentioned in a recent post that I wanted to start some learning activities with Mordecai so I bought him a workbook! I don’t have the bandwidth to do a whole curriculum with him like I did with Sadie at age two but we can definitely do some workbook pages.

So, we went into Starbucks and I put his workbook on the table and set Dakota’s carseat on a chair (pictured above) and had a flashback to doing the exact same thing with him (pictured below) as the baby just two years ago. In fact… here’s the picture (from this post!). Starbucks feels a little like our second home and if that’s wrong, then I don’t want to be right 😂

Anyways, Mordecai has been doing good with his little learning activities! We also introduced color sorting and he loved it. Sadie and I were cheering so hard every time he sorted a color correctly! Also note Dakota’s little legs kicking in the picture below haha. She’s just along for the ride!

We used linking cubes and he sorted them by color into Sadie’s vowel owls set.

We’ve been keeping school fun for Sadie by doing an egg hunt with her reading words! I made a bunch of flash cards of words she is practicing and stuck them in Easter eggs and hid them all around our yard for her to find. I might have snuck a few pieces of candy in some eggs, too 😉

Pittsburgh’s weather has been such a tease lately. We’ve had some gloriously warm, sunny weather! And then we have our rainy, windy, and cold days. I am loving any peek of spring weather we can get! We took advantage of the warmth one night and introduced the kids to Italian ice at Ritas. We even managed to get a chaotic family photo!

Okay, let’s talk about books! Jimmy has been working on our garage lately and tore down drywall from the ceiling. Guess what he found in the rafters? Military books from the 1940s!

1940s military books

One of the books was even labeled “restricted matter” which was so interesting! I wonder why they were hidden in the rafters of our garage?! We’ve lived in our house 11 years and we just discovered them. Wild!

Other book things: I just finished reading this midwifery memoir and am onto the second one in the series, Sadie thought Aiko and the Planet of Dogs was hilarious, my friend Kylie sent me this book and I cried reading it to the kids (it’s SO sweet! Thank you, Kylie 💛), and Mordecai loves this book about trucks and requests that I read it over and over again.

More notes and thoughts:

  • We decorated our house for Easter after we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day! I even wrapped the kids Easter-themed books and they get to unwrap one each day. I realized we only have a handful, so I might have to acquire a few more lol. I am eyeing up this one in particular!
  • I cleaned out the lint trap in our dryer the other day and noticed underneath it was filled with lint…eek! Does anyone have experience with a dryer brush to clean lint out? Do they work well? I am thinking of grabbing this one.
  • We dropped Sadie off at her computer coding class last night and were talking with the front desk lady and we wrapped up our conversation and I was like “Ok, cool beans!” and she was like “I haven’t heard that in a while!” and now Jimmy won’t let me live it down. I am a dork.
  • Mordecai was asked to be a ring bearer in a wedding this summer! So exciting!!
  • I pulled out my essential oil diffuser yesterday and diffused ylang ylang and lavender for a calm atmosphere while I did some schoolwork with Sadie and was told the house smelled like raisins, so there’s that 😂
  • Dakota has her one month checkup on Monday… someone please tell me how in the world a month has already gone by since she was born?!

Speaking of Dakota, I hear her making snuffling noises from the other room… so I better go peek and see if she’s waking up or just making cute noises 😂

Do you have any random fears (like of elevators in my case 😆)?

If you have siblings, where do you fall in the birth order of your family (middle child here 🙋🏼‍♀️)?

  1. So proud of Sadie in her coding class – and I agree – that elevator is definitely chocolately looking 🙂

Dakota in the AGD dress is so funny – sorry I was a part of that shenanigans.

Sadie teaching Decky is the sweetest! I’m sure he is enjoying every minute!

I am still petrified of elevators – everytime I step into one I re-live our time in Savannah and the horrible experience of being stuck in a VERY full elevator of people. If stairs are feasible and available – I tend to go that route!

I am the oldest child in our family – I would have had a brother, but he passed away just after birth, and I have a younger sister.

    Love you,

    Madre
