Floor Picnics, Visiting the Aviary, and Our Week

It’s a common occurrence for the kids to eat on the floor. Sometimes it’s out of convenience, for a novel experience, or just my sheer laziness. Whatever the case, the kids love it! We call it a floor picnic.

Jimmy and I were prepping dinner the other day and Sadie was like “We should have a floor picnic!” and he was like “What??” and she couldn’t believe he had never ate off the floor! 😂

So, how was your week? We started where I left off, with church!

In the evening, I had my final onboarding orientation for being a therapy dog handler! I will post all about our experience soon and then again once we have a few visits under our belts (or harness? collar? 😆).

I got a list of places we can volunteer at and can choose any of them. Immediately a local school for the deaf stuck out at me. We’ll see if we’re a good fit schedule and temperament-wise!

The kids and I braved the cold and went to the playground. Mordecai was skeptical about the weather. I don’t blame him!

Don’t mind the dog fur husky glitter on his pants 😉

Sadie and I introduced Mordecai to Play-Doh for the first time. He was more interested in the container, but it’s a start!

Sadie painted ice! I definitely spent more time setting up this activity than she did actually doing it. Ya win some, ya lose some!

We also went to the Aviary in Pittsburgh with the homeschool co-op we’re a part of. Everyone met up for an educational program, bird show, lunch, and then we wandered around the Aviary.

Last time we were at the Aviary, Mordecai was less than a month old. He was very into the birds this time. Both kids immediately passed out once we started driving home. Always the sign of a fun time!

Other things this week included baking cupcakes and granola (cranberry orange, gingerbread, and coconut almond flavors), reading Atomic Habits for the book club my sister and I joined, and visiting Jimmy on a job site!

Sadie was very excited to see her dad in action! She misses him all day when he’s at work, so I think it was neat for her to see what he does (he’s a welder) all day when he’s away.

It also helped me realize I could never work outside in the cold. We were with him for like ten minutes and were all frozen solid 🥶

Last but not least, our week has included homeschool and Polly Pockets. Sadie is beginning to read three letter words, learning sight words, and telling time on analog clocks.

Sadie and I were playing with her Polly Pockets today and she gave me the Polly’s camera and said my doll could take a picture of challah bread. I was cracking up. I guess she sees me do that a lot?! It’s wild what kids pick up on without us realizing 😆

So, that was pretty much our week in a nutshell! Tomorrow we are hanging out with my sister’s family and I’m excited. I just need to figure out what to make for dinner. Send ideas my way!

What was the last thing you laughed about?

I can’t really specifically remember what I laughed at last- but most likely a funny video or pic of the grandkids. I LOL a lot at some of them!
    Love you,

    1. I’d feel so bad having you eat on the floor, LOL!! Sadie would be delighted, though.

Thank you for your sweet words about me and Niva! I am so excited to start volunteering now!
