Losing and Winning

I’ve had some wins and losses lately, so I thought it would be fun to keep it real and share them here!

Chocolate peanut butter granola

Monday night found me cooking dinner. I made ziti and meatballs and pulled a jar of marinara sauce from the fridge and poured it over the pasta and meatballs. When I went to put the cap back on the jar I saw mold on the rim. Ugh.

Nothing like cooking dinner and then throwing it in the trash. Right at dinner time! Thankfully I had some leftover pork chops in the fridge that I heated up.

After dinner, I was baking granola for an upcoming event at our church. What did I do? I burned the granola. I was a ball of nerves after that! I kept thinking about how I accidentally wasted so much food and money. Not a good feeling.

Sadie saved the day a few hours later, though. We were snuggling in my bed (reading this book) and she said “I had a good day with you.” Those seven words were music to my ears.

Before the moldy pasta sauce and burned granola was a typical Monday. I was trying to catch up around the house as we began a new week. The kids were on my bedroom floor playing while I folded laundry and I decided to set the laundry aside and play on the floor with them for a bit.

Sadie and I taught Mordecai how to roll a ball and we all had so much fun. Did I finish the laundry? Nope. Did my kids have fun with mom? Yes! That was a win. I’ve been trying to make a concentrated effort to stop what I’m doing each day and just enjoy playing with my children. They’re such a blessing 🤍

Now for a less emotional win: Bar Keeper’s Friend. Jimmy surprised me with a new skillet a few months ago and it was starting to look… seasoned from the oil and everyday use. I picked up some Bar Keeper’s Friend and it worked like a charm!

I also used the powder on our shower, tub, and kitchen sink and it worked really well. Win 🏆

Okay, onto a loss. Sadie, Mordecai, and I were walking to the grocery store and Sadie ran down our street full speed… and splatted onto the concrete. Her hip was bleeding and she was crying, which then made Mordecai cry. I gave her a big mama bear hug and she recovered quickly! I think the promise of a treat at the grocery store helped, too 😉

A win: week one of Niva’s therapy dog training went well! It went better than I expected, actually. I thought she would be howling and pulling to play with the other dogs but she stayed focused and practiced her training commands like a champ!

The other six dogs in the class sat on the floor at their owner’s feet aaaaand Niva sat in the chair beside me. Classic husky 😂

A loss: I ordered a Christmas gift for my dad on Etsy and the seller sent the wrong item. I opened it and was literally so confused, hahah. I was like “Maybe it has to be assembled? Or I’m looking at it upside down?” Nope, it was just the wrong item. So I had to pack it back up to send back to the seller. That’s why I do Christmas shopping in October!

A win: hot tub time with my little family.

We are still loving our hot tub. It has been especially fun to go in at night since the weather is cooling down and it gets dark earlier.

A loss: Sadie has a mini blow up penguin (like you would see in someone’s yard at Christmas time, but only 12 inches tall) and we got it out this week and Mordecai was not–I repeat not–a fan. He was terrified of it! Poor guy. We’ll try again in a few months, lol.

A win: I finished book #36 for the year! It was Choosing to Run by Des Linden and very inspiring. She was the first American woman to win the Boston Marathon in 33 years. The book went through her life and the build up to that wild race.

Tell me some of your wins and losses!

  1. Man you had a few bad days for sure- but I know hearing Sadie’s kind words is always the best!! And Decky’s amazing smile 😊
Dogs and kids always make me feel so happy and blessed!
I’m so proud of Niva doing so well at her first training session!! She’s a good girl, and will be a great therapy dog. I laughed so hard at her sitting in the chair.
Your family nights in your hot tub are the cutest!!!

    1. Sadie’s words are so honest and sweet and just make everything better! And Deck’s little smile. YES! You’re so right about dogs making you feel happy. They are such good snugglers (snugglers autocorrected to “smugglers” at first and I was like yeah… that too with food haha). Praying so hard Niva can be a therapy dog!! Thank you for your help while I go to the training with her. Couldn’t make this (hopefully) happen without YOU!
