Our little Sader Tot is almost back to feeling like herself since coming down with strep throat last weekend. Her only complaint lately is that it still hurts her throat to eat certain foods. She’s getting there!
Here’s how the week went for us:
Saturday: Sadie complained that it hurt to swallow food in the afternoon and by evening she had fever of 103.
Sunday: Diagnosed with strep. She didn’t eat anything and had a fever of 105. Started antibiotics that afternoon.
Monday: Probably the hardest day. She still had a fever and her throat was really hurting. She was only able to have cough drops and water.
Tuesday: She finally ate–mostly Italian ice and popsicles. Her temperature went down to 99. Still in pain and extra tired.
Wednesday: Sadie at “real” food but complained that it hurt. She was so hungry that she ate anyways, lol. No fever! She took two naps.
Thursday: Pretty much herself! Just a little more tired than normal and still restricting what she chose to eat.
Friday: Same as Thursday.

My shopping cart on Monday had me cracking up. We’ll call it “tell me your child has strep throat without telling me your child has strep throat.” 😂
It was a rough couple of days (mostly Sunday-Tuesday), but it’s behind us! The doctor let us know that once she was on the antibiotics and didn’t have a fever for 24 hours, she could be around other people.
We ventured to a local farm and went to homeschool co-op later in the week, but that was about it for us. So far Mordecai, Jimmy, and I have all remained strep-free!
We did a unit on pumpkins for homeschool the day we visited the farm and Sadie got to pick out her own pumpkin! She learned the life cycle of a pumpkin from seed to full-grown squash.
The last time we visited this farm was about a year ago, when I was heavily pregnant with Mordecai. Want to see my pumpkin-sized belly? Check out this post.
We also did school outside one day this week because the weather was beautiful we were tired of being cooped up!
I did a bit of reading throughout the week. A lot with Sadie while she was laid up and a little on my own. I’ve never had the urge to visit Paris, but this book kind of makes me want to go?!
Sadie enjoyed the second Ivy and Bean book, this children’s book about kindness, a Caldecott Medal book about a lighthouse keeper, a National Geographic book on pumpkins, and literally all the books in this post.
I didn’t get the chance to do much baking this week but I did make a sky high apple pie with apples from the farm.
I’m hoping to bake some pumpkin spice cupcakes this weekend! If they’re a win, I’ll be sure to share the recipe here.
Sadie enjoyed art class at co-op this week. She learned about Vincent van Goh. Did you know he only sold one painting while he was alive?!
A certain someone turned ten months old this week! He celebrated by freaking out in the middle of the night and I fed him in our bed and then I couldn’t fall back asleep for like two hours 😂
I’ll probably be posting his ten month update here soon! I think that’s all I have to share today 😊

Love those fall pcs and the one with the kids on the floor, Mordecai looked like he was heading over to grab Sadie pencil!
Hard to believe ten month’s old already!
And save out a pumpkin spice cupcake for me!
Love you!
dad
🙂
Oh he did grab her pencils quite a few times, ha! I can’t believe he’s closing in on a year soon. Time is flying.
When I bake the pumpkin cupcakes I will make sure Pap Pap gets one! 🎃
Poor Sadie! Sore throats are rough, I remember getting them often when I was growing up. I’m glad she’s on the mend now and no one else in your family has caught it.
I had no idea that van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime. That’s crazy! I guess it’s been the same for a few writers and artists throughout history. Jane Austen, for example, published her books under a pseudonym and hardly made any money from them when she was alive.
Your apple pie looks delicious! I’d say my favourite baking season is probably autumn / winter. There’s just something so cosy about putting the oven on and making some comforting treats.
I felt so bad for her! She was really miserable for a few days. Ugh! Thankfully none of us caught it–whew!
I was so surprised about van Gogh, too!! It is pretty neat to think about all the authors and artists who became more well-known after their death. I always wondered why that happens!
Thank you for the compliment on my apple pie! I have to agree with you on baking seasons 🙂
I usually suck on ice when I have a sore throat (after downing Theraflu and pain medication, haha), even if it is a super temporary solution! If i have ginger or berry tea on hand, I like whipping up a cup of that too.
