Pretzel Challah Buns, Birds Nests, and A Little Welder

As usual, I’m coming at ya with a really random blog post title! How are you doing? It’s currently Friday evening as I type up this post and it has been a rainy day here in Pittsburgh. I think I need to light a candle!

We’ve been having fun in the Zottola kitchen lately. I made challah dough one morning and decided to make it into pretzel knots! I just divided the dough into eight balls, rolled each ball into a rope, and tied them in a knot.

From there, I boiled water, baking soda, and brown sugar and dipped the knots into the boiling water for about 30 seconds per side. Then I brushed them with an egg wash and sprinkled them with pretzel salt.

They came out really well! It was a nice switch up from making a braided loaf. As for the other kitchen fun, Sadie and I have been making some no bake cookies together.

We combine a mashed banana, oats, peanut butter, honey, and chocolate chips to make cookie balls as a snack that we store in the fridge. We also made a special treat to celebrate it (almost) being spring: birds nests!

These were so simple and cute! Just chow mein noodles, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and mini chocolate eggs. Sadie didn’t care for the nests, just the eggs. Crazy girl!

The kids and I visited Jimmy at work this week (once for fun and once to do homeschool for Sadie). We had missed him on Wednesday (he was gone for like 14 hours in Erie, PA!) so we made up for lost time by visiting.

Jimmy had me put his welding hood on Mordecai. I think he’s gunning for him to be a welder in the future 😉

So yeah, that’s the randomness that our life has looked like this week: playing in the kitchen, homeschooling, and visiting Jimmy at work!

What have you been up to this week?
