Fall decorating and family time

Ahhh, what a weekend! Jimmy and I had my family over on Saturday for a little fall party. It was really nice to spend time with them! I know I mention this a lot, but I miss my family so much.

Before I moved out, I was extremely close with my family. We spent most of our time together when I wasn’t at school (because my parents have a home-based business), and now I mostly see them for a few minutes at church. It’s hard living far apart now. It definitely makes me cherish every single moment I get to spend with them!

Anyways, Hannah planned the party and it included games, coloring pages, and a full dinner and dessert menu. I think she would make a great event organizer one day, haha.

I decided to decorate our house a few days before everyone came over and it was fun! I got into hardcore craft mode on Friday. Jimmy came home from work and saw that our kitchen table was just an explosion of craft supplies. He just looked at me and started laughing. He was like “Uh oh, you’re in the zone, aren’t you?” haha. YES.

This was the calm before the storm πŸ˜‰

It was my first time actually decorating our house! You should see our bedroom. We literally just have a bed, dresser, and white walls. Yeesh. I think my problem is that I want to decorate, but I want everything to look just right, so I just freeze because I’m afraid I’ll make a mistake. I’ll dive in soon, though! Maybe…

Here’s a few pictures of my fall decorations! Yes, they’re pretty much all homemade and very remedial πŸ˜‰

I had fun making everything, and Jimmy helped me out with the leaf garland on Saturday morning. It was a great little activity to do together!

Putting a pumpkin inside of a glass case totally counts as a decoration, right?! Ha..

The candy corn “decoration” is going fast because we keep snacking on it πŸ™‚

Here’s a few pictures from when my family came over…

My mom with her puppy,Β Reggie.Β No Smith/Zottola family get together is complete without pets! Also, we were blessed with some amazing weather. The high temperature was in the low 70s, and it was sunny. I kept saying that it felt like California. Whatever that means.

We took Lola, Brandy, and Reggie on a walk and Reggie crashed in Lola’s bed when we arrived home. He’s so cute and such a mellow puppy! He has definitely blended in well with my family.

That’s how I felt on Sunday while Jimmy and I cleaned up the house and ran errands, haha.

What did you do this weekend?!

  1. I ran a trail race this weekend (on Sunday), but besides that we went downtown for lunch and dessert and just chilled out. We also made a Walmart trip (haha, exciting married life!). We haven’t had any family get togethers in awhile so I’m excited for some with the holidays coming up. It looks like everything is going well for you guys, and I love your fall decorations- everything is so clean and simple and sometimes that’s the best kind of decorations!

    1. I love the exciting-married-life Walmart trips!! They’re so ordinary but also so special in the same way! I’m excited for family holiday get togethers, too! I wish I saw my family more, so holidays definitely bring us together :). Thanks for the compliments on my decorations!! It was so much fun to make them! I agree that simple is best with decorations!

  2. I think fall decorating is one of the most fun things to do. I always enjoy seeing your style and how it shines through with decorating as well. I worked the entire weekend but that isn’t anything new ha ha.

  3. Aww, I love the puppy pictures! Puppies are so cute when they’re sleeping stretched out like that. πŸ™‚ My cat loves to stretch out: she sleeps upside down in my arms like a baby when I watch television in the evening! So cute. πŸ™‚

I’m glad you had a lovely weekend and got to spend time with family. My weekend was quiet because I have so much college work to do! In fact, I’m sitting in one of the computer rooms on campus now, before my next class starts. I should really be working…..

    1. Thanks! I love when they’re all stretched out, too! It’s just adorable and so snuggly. And your cat–haha! That is majorly cute. I kind of want a cat now!

I hope you were able to get your work done πŸ˜‰ I should be doing mine now too!

    1. Thanks, Amy! Dogs and Autumn decorations… can’t get much better than that! Except dogs and Christmas decorations, maybe?! Haha. It was such a nice, family fun day for sure!

  4. I love all your decorations! I love candy corn! I’m thinking about making some candy corn granola pretty soon…we’ll see how that goes. Sometimes it’s just too sweet. Reggie is adorable and so are Jimmy and Hannah coloring πŸ™‚ It looks like you had a fun time!

  5. Lovin’ all the fall decorations! That’s so awesome your family comes over to see you though – with the puppies (obvi!). I like hosting! I really love throwing dinner parties / game nights. I hear ya on the missing parents part. Me and my mom text everyday to say i love you, and talk throughout the day, but I still wish she lived 5 minutes away.

  6. Aww so glad you got to spend some time with your family!! Your decorations are all so cute. I’m excited to see what you’ll come up with for Christmas! πŸ™‚

  7. Awwww, that sounds like so much fun! And I LOVE the decorations!!!! πŸ™‚ A pumpkin totally counts as a fall decoration! (At least it does in my book, because that’s mostly what I decorated with this year. Ha, ha). πŸ™‚

  8. That weather description certainly sounds like Cali right now! Add a little bit of humidity, and you’ve got LA πŸ˜‰

I love your decorations, and how you took the effort, even if it is “just family” visiting. When I had my Dad and sis over, I definitely wanted my place looking its best and wanted to make them feel at home!

  9. Aww the decorations are so cute! You are seriously such a rockstar, lol! And that little fall picture you colored. So much talent. Teach me! It’s going to be so weird when I move out of the house because my mom and I are so close! It will be weird to not be with her everyday!
