Life lately in nine pictures

Hey there and happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week thus far. Mine has been good and fairly productive on the school front! I should be doing school work right now, though… ha. Soo, I’ll make this post quick πŸ™‚

Here are nine snapshots of my life lately!

Smith Family

1. My brother has a lot of pets. I was on Instagram recently and was cracking up when I came across this picture that my brother posted of his wife and their pets (I added in all their names and the arrows). I feel like they acquire a new dog or cat every few months, haha! I think my brother is such an animal lover because we both grew up always having animals. There was literally never a time where we didn’t own at least a few pets. We had hamsters (mine had babies!!), turtles, lizards, frogs, fish, birds, dogs, and cats.

I especially loved my hamster, Minnie. When she died, my parents buried her in our front yard (I’m not sure why?!) and my brother and I dug her up a few days later because I missed her. We were a little bit weird πŸ˜‰

Groceries

2. Lola loves riding in my truck. Since I’m on the topic of pets, I have to share a picture of Lola. I take her on trips to the grocery store with me. There’s a pet store right next to the local grocery store, so I take her in the pet store to sniff around and buy her a bone. Then I put her in my truck with the bone while I get groceries. When I come back, she’s usually keeping the front seat warm for me. I love her so, so much.

Walk

3. One more picture of Lola. I love our daily walks around my neighborhood. I recently bought the Gentle LeaderΒ (after reading about it on Corrie’s blog once)Β and it totally changed our walks for the better! Lola can pull pretty hard, and the Gentle Leader seriously fixed our problems. My only gripe with it is that it looks like a muzzle, and I’ve noticed that people often act more afraid of Lola because I guess people think dogs with muzzles = dangerous?! Oh well. I know it’s not a muzzle, so I don’t really care.

Vote

4. I voted!Β Since it was pretty warm outside yesterday, Jimmy and I walked to our polling place together. When I walked up to show my voter ID, the women sitting at the table were like “You can’t be old enough to vote! No! You must be 14!” Ugh. I just laughed and was tempted to mention that I’ve been able to vote since 2010!!

Flowers

5. Colorful flowers. How cute are these?! Hannah recently had a swim meet at a school near where Jimmy and I live, so we watched her compete and brought her these flowers, candy corn trail mix, and chocolate covered pretzels. I figured she needed the energy… or at least those were the types of things I craved when I was at long swim meets back in the days of my swimming career.

Bread

6. Cinnamon raisin bread. Another thing to cross off my baking bucket list! I recently read The Baker’s Daughter and loved it. The last few pages of the book included recipes that were mentioned throughout the story, so I decided to make one. I definitely plan on making more soon!

Dad

7. Dad! My dad has an office near my house that he works at a few days a week, so sometimes he stops over for a meal. It’s the best!

Lowes

8. Being an adult. Jimmy and I received a housewarming gift card to Lowes from his aunt, so we popped in on Saturday to purchase a new ceiling fan four our kitchen since ours was on its last leg. Jimmy installed it himself and our kitchen is so much brighter now! I’m so blessed to have such a handy husband, too πŸ™‚

9. Fall in Pittsburgh. It’s so beautiful.

Alright, I better get started on my homework for the day! Bye!

How is your week going?

What is autumn likeΒ where you live?

  1. Fall in Pittsburg does look beautiful! I love that your dad can stop into your house for lunch on occasion – that’s really neat. I also love love love the jungle photo of your brother and sister-in-law’s animals. They look like they all have a good time together!!

    1. It really is gorgeous… until all of the leaves fall of the trees and there’s not snow yet. Then it’s awkward, but in a pretty way.. sometimes haha. I love that my dad can stop in for lunch sometimes! It makes me so happy to have him over!

  2. Pittsburgh looks really beautiful in the Fall. I wish I could say that for SC, but we really haven’t had any Fall weather. It went from heat straight to cold here, it actually snowed in Columbia on Saturday but it was just cold and wet here in Charleston. The day before everyone was wearing shorts too, it was crazy. It always looks green here though, this is just a really green, bright place to live.

I was expecting the same reaction when I went to vote yesterday and I didn’t get it. Everyone says “oh, you’ll be thankful someday” (ever notice how when people say that, they act like you’ve never heard it before even though you hear it probably once a week?), but I’m 29 and frankly, it’s getting old :). Glad you voted but they could’ve given you a sticker instead of that boring ticket!

    1. It really is! It’s so vibrant and colorful. The leaves are usually orange, bright red, or dark brown. I love it when fall is at its peak in Pittsburgh! I can’t believe it snowed in SC! I was seeing stuff about that on the news and was really surprised! I was thinking about you and wondering if Charleston got any snow!

  3. Ah!! I love that your brother has so many pets! You guys are definitely a pet loving family! I come from a family who really don’t care for animals all that much. They don’t hate them, but they also don’t really like them. I have one sister who has a cat, but that’s it. But Christopher comes from a family that all love dogs. Thankfully he and I both love animals. We’re hopeful that our kids will grow up with a love for animals too. I think it fosters responsibility and empathy from a young age when kids grow up with pets. πŸ™‚

Love that your dad works close enough to drop by for lunch sometimes! And I love that you are so close to your family. So often when you write about your family I find myself hopeful that my future kids will feel that close to us and their siblings. πŸ™‚

    1. Wow! Based on your love for Oreo and how well he’s trained, I would have never guessed you didn’t grow up with pets! I totally agree with kids growing up with pets. It’s a really great thing!

And I am sure your kiddos will definitely stay close with you and their siblings! You will have such an awesome, fun, loving family!

  4. Haha so many pets! That must be a lot of fun for them though. I’m only one year behind you on voting, since 2011! Just babies. All about the voting and be able to though, it’s such a privilege that I’m grateful for. Such a good snapshot of Pittsburgh, fall is my favorite time of year and I wish the trees could stay colorful year round but I’m pretty sure that isn’t going to ever happen πŸ˜‰

    1. Yes, all the pets! Everywhere. All the time, haha. It is a lot of fun to see them have a zoo. Their vet bills though? Out of this world expensive, but they see it as worth it! I totally agree with you on the importance + privilege of voting! It’s definitely special! I wish we could only have two seasons: summer and fall haha!!

  5. Oh my gosh. That book sounds like a really good one. Putting it on my to-read list! The bread looks AMAZING. Now I’m craving homemade bread at 9:30 at night! You just sound so happy with your life and I love it. Hope you have a great weekend, Allie!

  6. the first picture of your husband’s wife is so fun – i *wish* i had that many pets! ha, i can’t even convince my husband to get another dog :/ and you brought flowers, candy corn trail mix, *and* chocolate covered pretzels? so so sweet.

  7. I bet Jimmy says “Having a wife who bakes amazing things is awesome”

^^^ Or..LOL.. you can sub a lot into that sentence “Having a wife who “makes a lot of cool crafts” for one.
