How We Spent Independence Day, Button Art, and Bee Stings

If you’re from the U.S., how was your Fourth of July? It was a hot one here in Pittsburgh. I think it was in the high 80s and then it rained in the evening. Jimmy and Sadie were in a parade with our church and Mordecai and I stayed home because I had a ton of baking to do for my niece’s first birthday party.

Olive is turning one, so the theme was “Olive’s Berry First Birthday” and was strawberry-themed. I started off by making chocolate covered Oreos and was able to paint more chocolate. This time, I made strawberries! (more…)

Resurrection Rolls and Cat Hugs

Have you ever heard of Resurrection rolls? I hadn’t until this year, but they’re such a fun way to teach kids about the reason we celebrate Easter. They’re meant to symbolize the burial and resurrection of Christ.

They’re made by dipping a marshmallow in melted butter. It’s then rolled in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar and wrapped up in a crescent roll. When it bakes, the marshmallow disappears (melts). The marshmallow represents Jesus’ body and the crescent dough represents the tomb he was buried in. (more…)
