Button Art

I promised to post about how I make the button art I’ve been obsessed with lately, so here we are!

Below are a few examples of canvases I’ve made for family and friends. I usually do the first letter of someone’s first or last name. You could totally get creative and do something different, though!

I decided to photograph the process of making an “M” for my cousin’s daughter, Macie. First, let’s take a moment to reflect on how adorable she is!

Okay, back to the button art.

Supplies needed:

  • Canvas, your choice of size
  • Paint brush
  • Acrylic paint
  • Pencil
  • Buttons
  • Multi-purpose glue
  • Stencil or letter printed out and cut into a stencil
  • Mod Podge gloss (optional)

Directions:

  1. Paint the canvas your choice of color and allow it to dry completely. Lightly trace your printed letter or stencil onto the canvas in pencil.
  2. Glue buttons inside the letter, starting with larger ones and finishing with smaller ones. You can put the glue onto the buttons or directly onto the canvas, it’s up to you.
  3. If using Mod Podge, apply with a paint brush to the canvas, careful to avoid the buttons.
  4. Allow glue and Mod Podge (if using) to dry and show off your artwork!

Ta da! Pretty simple, right? Let me know if you have any questions!

Sleepover

Jimmy and I had our cousins stay the night on Friday so their parents could have a date night and it was seriously so much fun! Since we see the boys at church a few times a week, we’ve become really close and they kind of feel like little brothers to me. I’ve always wanted a younger brother, and now I feel like I have three 🙂

Cody, Josiah, and Nathan came over after Jimmy and I got home from work and we all cooked dinner together. We made pizza, pasta, soup, and sandwiches. Variety is the spice of life, right?!

After dinner, we all hung out for a bit with Malcolm and Lola. Then the boys played video games, and I fell asleep on the couch at like 9:30, haha. It was fun to hear all the banter going on between the boys about who was beating who at the video games!

We all went to bed around 11:30 and I think only two out of the three boys were woken up by Malcolm walking on them while they were trying to sleep. Not too bad 😉

For breakfast, Jimmy helped me cook pancakes and bacon.

After everyone ate, Josiah and Nathan perfected their gaming skills while Cody and I took Lola on a walk and then played a board game he created. Yes, you read that right, he created a board game! I got so into it and was bummed when their parents came to pick them up because I wanted to keep playing, ha.

I think it’s safe to say Cody could be creating board games for Hasbro in the future.

We hung out with the whole family (including baby sister, Leia!) and then they left and our house felt super quiet. The sudden silence must have made us realize how tired we were because we promptly took a nap, haha. I don’t know how parents keep up with their kids. It’s amazing.

All in all, it was such a fun sleepover and I can’t wait to do it again 🙂
