Spend the Day with Us + A Vlog

I’m often asked what a “normal” day looks like with homeschooling and parenting three kids. It’s honestly a mix of structured moments, lots of snacks, and plenty of laughter. We filmed a vlog on Monday and it was a pretty standard day for us!

My morning started around 5:00 am. I had coffee, read my Bible, and ate breakfast. Before I knew it, the kids were awake and ready to start a new week!

Mordecai and Sadie drank hot cocoa and then Mordecai played outside in the dirt in his pajamas while I brewed another cup of coffee and fed Dakota breakfast. She munched on a banana and baby food pouch.

After breakfast, I cleaned up the kitchen, made the bed, sorted laundry, cleaned windows, and vacuumed while the kids took a bath together. By that point, Dakota was ready for her first nap! The kids and I started our school day once Dakota was asleep.

We cuddled on the couch and read Jesus Rose for Me: The True Story of Easter. Once we finished reading, it was time to do our annual Easter baking tradition: we made Resurrection Rolls!

If you’ve never made resurrection rolls before, they’re such a simple and meaningful way to share the Easter story with kids. They start with a marshmallow (representing Jesus’ body) that’s dipped in butter and rolled in cinnamon sugar (symbolizing the oils and spices used for burial). Then it’s wrapped up in crescent roll dough—like the tomb—and baked.

The “wow” moment happens when they come out of the oven and the marshmallow has melted away, leaving an empty space inside. Just like the empty tomb on Easter morning!

We all had a great time making these and the kids especially liked having a snack while they did their schoolwork! We started with Mordecai’s language arts lesson and then moved onto Sadie’s lessons.

After we finished school, ate lunch, and Dakota woke up, we headed to the park! It was a beautiful day and the kids played for quite a while.

After spending time at the park, we stopped at the library to grab some books and play for a little. We headed home and I laid Dakota down for her second nap while the big kids played with their Hot Wheels cars.

It was almost dinnertime, so I started prepping food. I made Mac and cheese for the kids and also served them some fruit. I baked soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

Mordecai wanted to have a picnic on the living room floor, so they set up a step stool as their “table.” Jimmy came home and we ate dinner with Dakota. He then mowed the lawn and I brought the kids (and all the neighbor kids, lol) on a walk around the block.

Soon enough, it was Dakota’s bedtime, so I laid her down. We picked up the house a little, Mordecai watched Spidey and His Amazing Friends and Sadie and I read in bed. Jimmy did some computer work, and before long, we were all calling it a night.

It was a good day and a pretty accurate picture of what this season of life is like for us. Here’s a look at it all in vlog form. 🙂
