Everything Axolotl
Sadie loves axolotls. I didn’t know what they were (a type of salamander 😂) until she started talking about them a few months ago and now I know *everything* about them.
I think one of the fun things about homeschooling is that we can incorporate Sadie’s interests into our lessons. This week has been all about axolotls: we read a fact book, crafted, did a research project, and even baked cookies!
Jimmy’s sister got a 3D printer recently and guess what she printed Sadie…. an axolotl!
Aunt Life
We had my niece, Remi, over on Sunday afternoon and I think I had just as much fun as the girls did. We went in the hot tub together, I did their nails, we went shopping, and did crafts.
I love being an aunt. It’s the coolest thing to have a bond with my siblings’ children and spoil them as much as I can. There’s nothing like it!
Our Week So Far
Other things from this week included another therapy dog visit. Yay Niva!
We’re set to visit three different elderly care homes and a preschool this month along with our weekly visit to a school for Deaf children. Lots of exciting things for Miss Niva (and me 😊). Therapy work has been as rewarding and joyful as I dreamed it would be.
We had a visit from my mom this week! We went to Hobby Lobby to look for crafts for a co-op lesson I have coming up.
Sadie decided to channel spring with her outfit. She even found a wagon full of fake flowers. She said she wanted it so she could pull Mordecai around in it. She’s the sweetest!
I also worked on photographing peanut butter granola for my Etsy shop. I had an order for a few bags and it felt good to get back in the zone of baking and shipping.
So, that has pretty much been our week so far. Learning and volunteering and baking. All the good stuff!
Today is Thursday, which is co-op day for me and the kids. It’s one of Sadie’s favorite days of the week because she gets to spend the morning learning with her friends. My little social butterfly 🦋
I’m taking Jimmy on a surprise date on Friday!! Can’t wait. I’ll share more next time 😊

I used to be fascinated by axolotls when I was little! This axolotl-themed comic always cracks me up: https://www.instagram.com/p/BgSGVvZlOz-/?hl=en
And you’re right, being able to follow an interest and learn about it in-depth is one of the beauties of home-schooling. I remember my mum encouraging me to do that when she was home-schooling me. My main interests were veterinary science, dogs, horses and Jane Austen’s novels, life and times. The whole world of Pride & Prejudice enthralled me and I wanted to be a 19th century lady so much haha. Although I probably wasn’t thinking of the downsides — no running water, toilets, modern dentistry and medical care!
My favourite animal has to be a dog.
Happy February! A nice month — Pancake Day and Valentine’s are next to each other this year ❤ Enjoy your date with Jimmy 🙂
That’s so cool!! My brother had a water puppy when we were growing up and it looked like an axolotl but I can hardly remember it. I showed Sadie the comic and she was cracking up. She’s at the age where she’s starting to *get” jokes and humor and it’s adorable!
Your mom sounds like she was an amazing teacher for you! Your interests were on point! All the good stuff 🙂
I always liked Little House on the Prairie and similar to the world of P&P, I don’t think I reallyyyyy understood what that life entailed haha.
I have never heard of Pancake Day! I am going to google that right now!! Happy February to you, too!
Aww that’s so sweet that Sadie enjoyed the comic. Made me smile 🙂
Ohh I loved the Little House books too. I had them as bedtime stories. So good! Anne of Green Gables, too. All of the classics.
Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day) is a big tradition here in the UK. Its origins stem from giving up certain foods for Lent (fasting from indulgent foods). It’s also a nice excuse to have pancakes for dinner! 🙂
She was delighted over the comic!!
I embarrassingly haven’t read Anne of Green Gables. Crazy, right? I think I need to read it with Sadie! That would be a fun first time for both of us 🙂
I’ve never heard of Shrove Tuesday being Pancake Day! That is so interesting and delicious, haha!!
I’m out here googling axolotls now, thanks to Sadie 😂
Hahahah that was me about six months ago. I didn’t believe her that they were real animals at first 😂
I love that Sadie has such fool interests in different things!
We had so much fun @ Hobby Lobby (Bobby)! It’s such an amazing store, I love going with you and the kids!
My favorite animal is definitely a dog. I have owned a dog since I was a very young girl, and you and your siblings have followed suit!
The last thing I learned was how to feed a sour dough starter (named Salvatore). So interesting! Hopefully I don’t goof it up and end up with some delicious bread!
Love you,
Madre
cool* interests (sorry about that)
I do, too! It’s so much fun to learn right along with her 🙂
Isn’t Hobby Lobby the best?! I could spend hours in there haha.
I love that you have always had a dog and also instilled a love of animals in us kids! I can’t imagine life without a dog (or cat!).
How is your starter?! I hope you get some amazing bread out of ‘ol Sal!!
Love you!
Axolotls are so cool I’m glad Sadie explores different things!
More therapy sessions with Niva, how awesome!
I really always love all the pictures of you guys and the kids. It was nice to see Yaya i them too, I’m glad she is able to take time to hang out with you guys!
Love You!
Dad
🙂
Agreed! She has so many different interests and I love learning right along with her.
The therapy sessions have been great! Any time CX needs a therapy dog visit, let me know and we can schedule it 😉
I am so, so thankful Yaya comes out to hang with us each week!
Love you so much!
