A year with Mordecai! What an amazing year it has been. He went from an eight pound bundle of cuteness to a crawling little baby who says a few words and is playing and exploring more every day.

I can’t believe how fast the past year has flown by. Mordecai is such a sweet baby. He is happy to follow Sadie around, suck his thumb, and snuggle in my arms. I know that won’t last forever, so I’m cherishing him at this special stage.

Growth He weighs 19lbs 13.5 oz (10%), is 27.5 inches long (1%), and his head circumference is 48cm (90%).

Wearing 12 and 18 month clothes and size four diapers.

Eating Mom’s milk and pretty much any food. He had venison for the first time and enjoyed it. He’s also had orange juice and milk.

Personality Sweet, happy, and sensitive.

Nicknames Decky, Deck, and Sadie calls him Pumpkin Head because his head is big 😆

Looks Like His mama and a little like Sadie as a baby. He has light blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. I’ve lost count of how many teeth he has. I think six?!

Sleeping He usually goes to bed around 7:00 pm and sleeps until 5:00 am. I feed him and then he’s back down for a bit. He takes one nap in the afternoon.

New Skills Standing, pointing, trying to climb anything and everything, using things like furniture to cruise around a room, and saying words here and there (cat, mama, dada).

Likes Sadie, being outside, family, bath time, sucking his thumb, toys, trying to get into the toilet, opening and shutting doors, pulling toilet paper off the roll, climbing onto and into the dishwasher, lift-a-flap books, music, eating, balls, toys, and anything with wheels.

Dislikes Being changed into clothes and having his diaper changed. He is nearly impossible to change! It feels like a two person job, but if I’m really fast and sing to him while I do it, we make it work. He also doesn’t like loud noises. New toys that have noises scare him until he gets used to them. I even read him an animal sound book and it resulted in tears. He’s a sensitive guy! Also random, but he often gets annoyed at his ears being on his head and tries to brush them off 🤷‍♀️

Favorite Products Busy board, diapers, crawling toy, lift-a-flap book, stroller, foldable high chair, and sign language blocks.

Other Notes He had his first haircut on October 27th. He has absolutely no interest in TV and screens at this point, which is so weird to me! I think he’s just way more interested in watching his “live entertainment” (Sadie!). I know I should be glad, but sometimes it would be nice to put a kids show on for him while I prepare dinner or fold laundry 😂

At his one year checkup, the doctor noted that his growth has slowed to the point where his height and weight are low for his age (1st percentile for height and 10th for weight), so she encouraged us to increase his caloric intake. Hopefully he trends upwards at his 15 month appointment!
