Lint Rolling Our Child, Apologizing, and What I’m Reading

When you have a husky that sheds nonstop and your baby crawls on the floor… sometimes you have to lint roll your baby.

Niva may shed nonstop, but she sure is cute! I am so curious as to how she will do at her upcoming training classes. I think the toughest thing for her will be realizing that the other dogs are there to train and not play with her.

We had a rainy Saturday morning so Sadie and I did something I hadn’t done in such a long time… we watercolored! Watercoloring makes my heart so happy and I loved doing it with Sader Tot.

I pulled out my watercolor workbook, Sadie’s painting mat, and we each chose a page or two to paint and then I hung them up in the frames we last decorated for Valentine’s Day.

The kids and I were having a day last week. By “a day” I mean a rough day. Mordecai didn’t nap enough and Sadie’s energy levels were 100 and mine were… not 100.

We were all a bit overstimulated so we headed out to my favorite trail and some time in nature did us good!

My favorite spot at the creek looks so beautiful in the fall. It’s neat to see it so vibrant in October and lush in June. I’ll have to take a picture in January or February if I can brave the cold 😜

I have to make an apology to my mom. She came over my house last week and I asked if she wanted soup for lunch. She did, so I gave her some kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and failed to warn her that it’s spicy.

Her poor sinuses were draining and she was tearing up. Sorry mom!! She had a look of horror on her face when I served myself a bowl alongside an egg sandwich that I doused in hot sauce. I love heat 🔥

Speaking of apologizing, it’s really important to me that I apologize to my kids when I mess up. I want them to know that mom makes mistakes and I want to model basic manners like apologizing. How will they know to do it if they don’t see me doing it!

Okay, let’s talk about books for a minute!Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar, The Longest Race by Kara Goucher and Becoming Free Indeed by Jinger Vuolo

I just finished The Longest Race by Kara Goucher and it was eye-opening. I followed her career pretty closely when I was super into distance running and reading her book brought back a lot of memories of races I watched her compete in. I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. I do know that I will never buy anything Nike ever again.

I’m about halfway through Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar and it’s also eye-opening. I loved watching 19 Kids and Counting and admired a lot of things about the Duggar girls (their conviction in their beliefs, their faith in God), but learned about their family’s involvement in IBLP and was like yikes. I have a lot of respect for Jinger (I read her book a few months ago) and Jill for stepping out from IBLP and finding their faith apart from manmade religious rules.

Once I finish Counting the Cost, I’m diving back into the running world and reading Choosing to Run by Des Linden. I just saw that she broke the master’s record at the Chicago Marathon on October 8th at age 40. Her time was 2:27:35 which is a mind boggling 5:38 minute per mile pace for 26.2 miles. So cool!

Okay, this post is random enough and long enough so I am ending it here. I’ll leave you with a cute picture of Mordecai eating a baby food pouch while sitting in his booster seat at the table like a big boy!

What are you reading?

Have you ever realized something that’s normal for you (like lint rolling your child…) isn’t normal for other people?

  1. I really want to read Kara’s book now! Honestly all your recs sound interesting. And I can’t believe Des is 40??? Ahhh these elite long distance runners 😍

    1. It was really, really good! I blew through it! I was shooketh that Des is 40. She is amazing!! Have you ever heard her and Kara on their podcast? It’s hilarious and awesome. I love taking Niva on a walk and listening to it 😊

  2. I am now reading Counting the Cost, and it’s C R A Z YYYY! I am seriously praying that all of their children step away from that awful cult they were raised to believe in. What a disgrace that their parents are continuing to raise their younger children in the same way. Totally awful.
I will be reading Kara’s book next!
Decky with the lint roller is hilarious!!
