All of the Little Things Lately

Hello from Mordecai.

Baby boy sitting by dog food

That’s the smile of a baby who just ate dog food. He was too fast for me!

Red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting

Who wants a red velvet cupcake? I had an order for red velvet + cream cheese frosting and they came out nicely! I’m starting to think of a fall menu and I’m excited.

Let’s talk books for a second. I read Someone Else’s Shoes recently and could not put it down. The story was woven together so well. I passed it on to my mom and she finished it in a matter of days. Another book read by our two person book club, lol.

Mom in kitchen with kids

Above is a picture of what eating lunch usually looks like for me: standing at the counter, stuffed animals on the floor, Sadie carrying around an empty Tupperware container, and Mordecai sitting in the sink 😂

We started school this week! I even put up a banner and blew up some balloons for the first day. We’re mostly doing a bit of review from last year right now but things have been going well.

Girl doing homeschool kindergarten

Sadie doesn’t know how good she has it being able to do school in her pajamas, not having to wake up at a certain time or commute to a building, and being able to eat snacks whenever she wants!

Want to know what grocery shopping with your second child looks like? See below 😜

Baby boy sitting in Walmart shopping cart

Grocery shopping with Sadie (my first) looked like a freshly washed cart cover and being carefully buckled in. If we have a third, will I stick the kid under the cart at that point?

I mentioned in this vlog that a friend of mine had twins who are in the NICU and she isn’t planning to nurse so I offered to pump my milk for the babies.

Lots of trips to the hospital to visit and lots of learning about pumping has been happening. I’ve never had to pump because Sadie and Mordecai have never taken bottles, so this is a whole new world to me. How many times a day do I do this? Will my supply work itself out? What do I need on hand daily? Is everyone getting enough?!

I was using an electric pump and this bra attachment but one morning (at like 5:00 am 😴) I ended up leaking alllll the milk out and I now disagree with the statement that “there’s no use crying over spilled milk.”

After that, I ended up getting an inexpensive hands free pump, which is a lot more convenient! I started taking fenugreek to up my supply a bit. These quick steam bags have been a lifesaver for sanitizing pump parts.

Mostly, I’m extra tired lately. I don’t know if it’s the back and forth from the hospital (how do NICU moms go to and from the hospital daily while also recovering from birth? I am amazed.) or just the extra milk production but I am wiped out! But so, so happy to help.

I had so. many. struggles. breastfeeding Sadie and when I started taking on this little nursing endeavor I was thinking about how all those struggles were worth it to help out even a tiny little bit with these precious babies.

Me and Sadie in the hot tub

Now Sader Tot is almost five! And addicted to our hot tub, ha! I think we all are, actually 😬 I take the kids in each day, Sadie usually goes in again while Mordecai naps and I get work done (while sitting beside the hot tub and watching her!) and Jimmy loves going in late at night after everyone is in bed. We are definitely getting lots of use out of this investment, lol.

Alright, I am going to sign off! I will leave you with a cute and funny picture of Mordecai. A friend from church was like “I just want to take him home!” and she put him in her purse.

  1. First off—-I’m so proud of you helping the twins! What an amazing sacrifice, and God Is DEFINITELY smiling down on your unselfish giving to a friend (and tiny babies) in need. Thank you.
I’m so glad you guys are enjoying your hot tub- I think you’ll really love it in the fall and winter too~ it certainly will, and is getting used a lot!
It is nice that home schooled students have so much flexibility, and I know Sadie is being taught by the best 🥰
The last thing I laughed about is Decky in a Vera Bradley purse 🤣🤣
I guess my fall fave flavors would be apple- and pumpkin- I know, totally cliche but they’re both so good!!
    Love you!!
