A Few Favorites

Hey hey! It’s currently Thursday morning as I type up this post and I think I have the pets all settled in and relaxing (for now…). Does anyone else have animals that are just straight. up. hyper. first thing in the morning?

I have to take my fasting blood sugar right when I wake up and every day, without fail, Malcolm tries to knock my lancets, test strips, or glucose monitor off the table while I’m pricking my finger, haha. Then I’m also trying to wrangle Mavis and Lola… one of which is barking, whining, wanting to go outside, trying to jump on the couch, chasing Malcolm, or begging for food. Our little zoo is a wild place to be in the morning!

Something I’ve been trying to remind myself when I get overwhelmed with the animals is that I can choose joy and contentment, even when things are crazy. Would I like our house to be quiet and clean? Yes. Would I like to start the day without chasing after animals the second I get out of bed? You bet.

These animals are mine and Jimmy’s fur babies and we love them, even when they’re crazy. Instead of getting frustrated when they’re acting up, I remind myself what our pets mean to me, and give thanks for the joy they’ve brought to our lives. Am I perfect at this? Nope, definitely not. It’s a work in progress, and I’m okay with that. It’s a blessing to live with our little fur balls, and I never want to forget that, even during the hard moments.

Alright, off of that tangent and onto a few favorites from lately!

1. Walmart grocery pickup.

Walmart Grocery Pickup

I’m still going strong with ordering our groceries online from Walmart and picking them up. I’ve found the whole process to be super easy, simple, and convenient. I really like that I can see exactly what the bill will be while I’m shopping. It definitely helps me stay within our budget!

2. Full Circle Detail Brush.

Full Circle detail brush for cleaning

Is anyone else a cleaning nerd like me? I don’t know what it is, but cleaning makes me so happy. There’s nothing like giving the sink a good scrub and getting it all shiny or mopping the floors until they gleam. I just love it.

I bought this detail brush for cleaning the kitchen and immediately ordered another one for the bathroom once I used it. The top part is a scrubber and the bottom is a scraper-type tool that’s amazing at cleaning crevices.

3. Homemade laundry booster.

Okay, one more cleaning related favorite! I made homemade laundry booster last weekend and it’s making our clothes smell amazing. It was pretty simple to put together, and I don’t think I spent more than $10 on all the ingredients. Is anyone interested in the recipe?!

3. Shark Week and Battle Bots. It’s Shark Week this week!! Enough said, right? Jimmy and I have also been enjoying watching Battle Bots on the Discovery Network each Friday night. Do you have any favorite TV shows?

4. Mavis is feeling better!

Cocker spaniel puppy with cone

Little May May has been recovering so well from her surgery. She has been such a good girl with keeping her cone on and definitely has her energy and spunk back. I’m taking her to have her stitches removed on Monday morning, so hopefully all goes well with that!

5. Grace, Not Perfection. Remember how I said I picked up a few new books and Grace, Not Perfection by Emily Ley was one of them? It’s such a great book! I’m really enjoying the fact that it’s so interactive, with spaces to write and reflect on the author’s writing and prompts. I definitely recommend it!

I feel like I could share a million other favorites and updates, but this post is long enough! I’m off to start my day, which is probably going to include real estate work and wrangling animals 🙂

What’s a favorite of yours lately?

  1. I would love the laundry booster recipe! I’m running out of the supply from when I worked for Arm & Hammer and got it for free and they’re expensive haha.

I’m glad Mavis is feeling better! I’m sure the stitches getting removed will be super simple and quick for her.

One favorite of mine lately has been iced tea. It’s so refreshing on a nice hot summer day!

    1. Yay! I will absolutely post it! So cool you had a free supply from Arm & Hammer from when you worked for them! That’s legit 🙂

The stitches removal was a piece of cake, thankfully!! So glad that is all done!

  2. Pets certainly can be frustrating, but I know I always feel bad if I let myself get upset at them. It’s easy to get upset, but they are just pets and they bring so much joy and that’s definitely important to remember! Thanks for the reminder and from how you already approach your pets, I know you’re going to be an AMAZING mom! ❤ It does, though, make me chuckle that your babies are so hyper in the morning. Ours are super sluggish and sleepy, haha! Joshua & I aren't morning people, so I guess our pets aren't either haha. 🙂

I so wanted to try that Walmart pickup but neither of our Walmart locations offer it! I guess Flagstaff is just too small. :/ It sounds so convenient!

Shark Week is always so fun to watch! I was looking forward to it, but then we decided to cancel our DIRECTV to save some money. We should have waited until after Shark Week, haha!

I'm glad that Mavis is doing better! She's so sweet!

    1. So, so true! I get more upset at myself for getting upset with them than I actually am in the moment they’re misbehaving, if that makes any sense lol! Thank you so much for the mom encouragement! That totally made my day 🙂

I am jealous your fur babes are so sluggish and calm in the morning! That’s too cute!

      1. Haha well Kona certainly makes up for the sluggishness by being super hyper later on, lol! Thankfully, Zelda is pretty chill most of the time, so I love that about her! It is pretty cute when Kona gets excited though. 😉

  3. Poor Mavis in the cone!

I did a ton of cleaning last weekend and purging- I cleaned out a few closets and did a lot of other things around the house. It makes me happy.

    1. She was pitiful in that cone, and I’m so happy to report that it is now OFF! YAY!

Woo hoo for cleaning and purging everything! That is one of the best feelings!

  4. Hey Allie,

Super strange question do you use the laundry booster in place of laundry detergent or do you simply add it to the laundry machine before the laundry detergent is added??

My favorite right now is definitely this Strawberry Cream Flavored water that I get from Walmart. I love that is tastes like summer!

    1. Hi Lindsay! Great question! I use the laundry booster in addition to my usual laundry detergent! So, I’ll add 1/4 cup of the booster to the drum of the washing machine, then add my usual detergent and fabric softener, then the clothes and start it up! I hope that helps 🙂 I will be doing a post on it soon, too!

Strawberry cream water sounds amazing! I need to find that and try it ASAP!

  5. Love your writing sweetie, so “real”!
We have been enjoying shark week every night!

    Dad
    🙂

  6. I would have LOVED the Walmart pickup when I was pregnant… HA! Although I do tend to enjoy grocery shopping, I wasn’t a fan when I was growing a big ol’ baby inside of me. 🙂 So that would have been amazing! And honestly, I can see how it would help with budgeting!! I really need to get my grocery budget under control, because money has been a bit tight. So I’m definitely looking to lower that as soon as possible (and I know that being really aware while purchasing is a huge first step).
And I am with you on the choosing joy!! I don’t have hyper pets, but I definitely have a hyper three year old. LOL! And realizing that a good attitude and joy is a choice has been key these days!! 🙂

    1. I love grocery shopping, but like you said, having a big ol’ belly makes it tough and tiring lol!! It really does help with budgeting and pickup is free, so we are just loving it!

AMEN to choosing joy and a good attitude whether it’s a three year old or puppy!! ❤

  7. Ah, your sweet fur babies are keeping you on your toes! It’s going to be so fun to add Baby Z to the pack! 🙂 And I’m so glad that Mavis is feeling better! Great news!

I’m glad you are enjoying Grace, Not Perfection! I’ve heard great things about that one and want to read it!

    1. They truly do! Adding Baby Z to the pack will just add in even more fun! I can’t wait to see the gang all together 🙂

I definitely recommend Grace, Not Perfection! I think you would love it!

  8. Ooo so many good things in this post! I am so glad that Mavis is back to himself now 🙂 That’s awesome. We tried the homemade laundry detergent one time, and it didn’t do the trick- I’ll need to try this combination!! And so good to know Walmart does pick up groceries- so awesome! Your attitude and positivity is always so admirable. And I NEED to read that book- sounds tremendous. XO

      1. Yay! I’m excited to get started with it. I have about two giant laundry detergent tubs, but once theyre done I’m gonna do it!
