Good For The Soul

I firmly believe that being in nature is good for the soul. So is spending time with family. And not having cell phone service. And camp fires. And laughter. Put all of these together and you have how I spent last weekend in a nutshell.

Couple in the woods

Jimmy, my brother-in-law, sister, and I went camping at the Kinzua East KOA from Thursday to Saturday and it truly was good for my soul. I had spent over a month without a day off of pet sitting and I was beginning to feel burned out and way too busy.

We booked a cute little cabin and spent our time talking around a campfire, cooking, visiting the Kinzua Dam, hiking, boating, and fishing. We also walked on the Kinzua Sky Walk, which is a bridge that partially collapsed in 2003 due to a tornado. You can read more about it here, because whatever I say won’t do it any justice. It was so neat!

Okay, now for some pictures!

  1. What a fun trip with family! You are so right that it is good for the soul to disconnect and be in nature for a bit. I’m glad you got to do that – it sounds like you needed it!

I’m not too into camping…. I’m more of a hotel girl, for sure. I remember enjoying it when I was a kid (we had a family reunion each summer and it was fun to stay in tents with my cousins!) but now I’m too particular about needing a comfortable bed! And I don’t consider myself a high maintenance person! Except in that regard, I guess.

    1. Yes, I totally needed to just disconnect and get away for a bit!

I’m honestly a lot like you with camping. I didn’t looove staying in an old cabin (I’d be happy in a hotel, ha!) but it wasn’t too bad for a few nights. I was definitely happy to be back in my own bed when we got home, though!

  2. I’ve never been camping. I’m not really a wilderness or nature person (well, I am for short periods of time but I like to be indoors in hotels when I sleep!). It looks like you had a really fun time though. I think disconnecting is SOOOO important especially in the last few years when the world has gotten so much more connected and we’re all glued to our phones, computers, or tablets.

    1. Haha I know what you mean about wanting to be in a hotel for sleeping away! Camping isn’t my absolute favorite (Jimmy really enjoys it, so I go along because I know it makes him happy, haha) but it was nice to get away and disconnect!!

  3. I camped (I spent the night in a tent lol) last Saturday before a race. It was my first time! I actually slept like a rock. I want to do more!

  4. So so good to have some time away from the busy-ness of life and just enjoy some time in nature with family! 🙂
