Let’s talk about books (and other random things)

Remember how I read a ton of books last year? I have only read eight so far this year. Ugh. I blame it on writing a book and discovering Podcasts. I’ve been making my way through a few nonfiction books (The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Childbirth Without Fear– a random combo, I know!), but I’m looking for some good fiction.

I’d love to read something that’s not emotionally heavy, if that makes sense. Any recommendations?

Aaaand onto the randomness!

Cat on the dryer

One of my clients has the most awesome bengal cat. He has such a fun, mischievous personality. As I’ve mentioned before, his favorite spot in the house is on top of the dryer. I like to call the bottom picture his superman pose.

Spider web

Check. Out. This. Spider. Web. Eeeeek!

Other things:
-My rearview mirror melted off of my windshield today. That was interesting.
-Jimmy and I visited his cousin and her husband in the hospital last week to meet their new baby. Ahhh, it was the best. Hi Katie 🙂
-A few weeks ago, I had a dream I was kicking a soccer ball and totally kicked Jimmy super hard and woke him up out of a dead sleep. Also, I had a dream last night that I gave birth to triplets. What is with these dreams of multiples?! I’m getting freaked out, haha.

Do you have crazy dreams?

Have you read any good fiction lately?

  1. I have not been reading either 😦 I blame it on school and getting addicted to Lost =P I always have weird dreams especially when it’s hot! Most of mine involve my job and my coworkers doing crazy things

  2. I haven’t been reading a ton. I spent a lot more time reading by the pool last summer. I love your book lists though because you always have really good recommendations!

  3. Triplets!! It’s a sign! 😉 Or maybe that’s from all the reading about childbirth and your interest in midwifery?

So this book was definitely an emotional read for me (especially at the end) so it doesn’t fit in your category of non-emotional reads, BUT! I just finished it and it was SO good that I want everyone to read it, haha! It’s called Land of Silence by Tessa Afshar. It’s about the woman who Jesus heals from the 12 years of bleeding. The story was so captivating to me and then the end… oh my gracious, I read at the gym so I was walking on the treadmill sniffling by tears earlier this week, haha! So so good! But again, not exactly a non-emotional read. But one to add to your list for when you want a book like that for sure! 🙂

    1. Haha, I’m not sure which!! Jimmy’s dad is a twin, but I think Jimmy’s sister is likely to have multiples instead of us, unless it’s spontaneous. Eek!! It could definitely be from my intense interest in childbirth and midwifery, though!

Land of Silence sounds soo good! I’m definitely going to have to add that to my list! And LOL to sniffling while on the treadmill. Too funn!

  4. I love that cat. His superman pose is awesome.

I recently read Eligible, which was cute and light. Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella was hilarious, I thought. I loved Attachments by Rainbow Rowell too. Those are a few of my recent non-emotional fiction reads!

    1. He’s such a fun cat. He always keeps me on my toes, haha.

I’ll have to check out Eligible and Twenties Girl! I love both of the authors of those books, so I have a feeling I’ll like them!

I started reading Attachments a few months ago, but for some reason I stopped! I think I need to pick it back up!

  5. I’m trying to think of books I’ve read recently that aren’t emotionally heavy… “Carrying Albert Home: The Somewhat True Story of a Man, his Wife and her Alligator” was a funny, light read.

Haha, the photo of the cat in superman pose is hilarious! 😀 I love cats and their quirky personalities.

Re: dreams — I often have dreams about my work, especially if I’m really busy on a certain project. But they’re not very exciting/crazy dreams!

On a completely random topic, did I imagine this or did you teach spinning classes for a while? I’m planning on going to a spin class at a gym near me soon… looking forward to trying it!

    1. I can’t wait to look up “Carrying Albert Home” haha. It sounds very intriguing! Sometimes you just need a light read, you know?

I adore cats, too! They make me so happy 🙂

Yes, I used to teach spinning classes! I think you’ll enjoy it, especially if you like music. You’ll have to let me know how it goes/went!!

    1. It was great! Some things were a little strange, in a sense that the author sees tidying as a spiritual art. But otherwise, the book made sense and totally changed the way I organize and store things and helped a ton in the decision making process of going through belongings to keep or not!

    1. Awww, I hope you get to read for fun again soon!

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up was great! Some things were a little strange, in a sense that the author sees tidying as a spiritual art. But otherwise, the book made sense and totally changed the way I organize and store things and helped a ton in the decision making process of going through belongings to keep or not!

  6. “I’d love to read something that’s not emotionally heavy.” That’s how I am in regards to movies these days… I feel as though there’s already so much sadness on the news, and I just want to sit down to watch a movie that will make me laugh and smile. So I get that!!
I honestly haven’t read anything good lately. I’m on the search for a good fiction book as well, so let me know if you find anything!! 🙂

    1. YES. I could not agree more with you on the movie thing! I go to the movies maybe once every few years and I always just see kids movies, haha. Going to the movies happens to be one of Jimmy’s favorite things, so I’ve been trying to do it more. We saw Zootopia (loved it!) and The Secret Life of Pets (meh) recently!

I will definitely keep you posted on the book search!
