Finding Out the Gender of Baby #3

August 2024

So, another baby post! At my first prenatal visit, the midwife wrote me a script for genetic testing to check for chromosomal abnormalities. I was fine with doing it because if it was predicted our baby would have any chromosomal abnormalities, I’d want to know so we could learn about them before the baby is born instead after birth so we could learn as much as we could to help the baby. I hope that makes sense!

The genetic testing came back normal! Since chromosomes were being looked at, they could see if there is a Y chromosome (which would indicate boy), or only X (which would mean girl). So, I got the blood results one morning and then showed them to Jimmy. That’s how we officially found out!

We decided we would do something special to tell Sadie. We told her about the pregnancy on a Sunday and waited until Tuesday to tell her the baby’s gender. Whew were those intense days! She just wanted to know and asked what we thought and threw out baby names and wanted to know which bedroom the baby would share, etc.!

My mom was at our house on Tuesday and I wanted her to experience Sadie finding out with us. So, we went to Party City and I bought a black balloon that was filled with confetti that was either pink or blue. I had it blown up and then we took it home for Sadie to pop once Jimmy got back from work.

Overall thoughts

I told Jimmy the other day that baby boy has been pretty good to me this pregnancy. I feel like I’ve had less complications than I did with Sadie’s pregnancy, or that maybe things don’t seem as big of a deal as they did the first time? Or maybe I don’t have as much time to worry as I did during my first pregnancy now that I have an almost four-year-old keeping me busy. (more…)
