From an RV Show to a Last Minute Sleepover

Life lately has been a mix of fun plans and packing overnight bags. We visited the Pittsburgh RV Show, had some plumbing repairs that left us without water for a day, and in between it all enjoyed school days, a church fellowship, and family time.

Each part of the past week or so has looked a little different, but it has all blended into a rhythm of normal days and making the best of unexpected changes!

The Pittsburgh RV Show 🏕️

We took the kids to the Pittsburgh RV Show on Saturday! Just imagine a convention center filled with acres of RVs for people to wander into and look at. That’s exactly what the Pittsburgh RV Show is like and it’s such a unique and fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Kids in a camper

The best part? My parents met us there and checked out all the RVs with us. Sadie and Mordecai had been to the show before, but didn’t remember it. This was my parents’ first time attending and they loved it! Now we all want to buy an RV. 😂

Can you believe the photos above and below are inside an RV?! Some of the RVs we went inside were close to the size of our house (and definitely more expensive than a house!). So wild!

If you ever get the chance to attend a show like this, go! It’s really neat. 😊

A Last-Minute Sleepover 🛌

Our hot water tank was on its last leg recently and we needed a couple of pipes replaced, so Jimmy was in touch with a plumber. He called me on Monday and asked if I was okay with the plumber coming the next morning and let me know we wouldn’t have water for a day or so. Eek! We really needed the work done… so grandparents to the rescue! My mom and dad graciously let me, Sadie, Mordecai, and Dakota sleepover their house while the work was being done.

I felt bad this happened so last-minute! We had the best time, though, and the kids did not want to leave when it was time to go back home. We hung out, did schoolwork, shopped at a thrift store, had ice cream (even though it was in the single digits outside!) and Sadie and Mordecai got to sleep together for the first time!

All in all, it was a great time and I’m so glad we had to have our hot water tank replaced because we got to spend lots of quality time with my parents. Thanks for having us over, mom and dad!

Little Moments from Our Week 📸

Our little moments have included lots of schoolwork, reading, family time, and church!

I peeked on the baby monitor in the girls’ room at 6:45 am one morning and saw Sadie reading this book to Dakota.

Dad and baby in window

Mordecai and I went to the grocery store together and Jimmy and Dakota saw us off in the window. Mordecai said Dakota looked like a spider. 🤣

Baby girl in Happy New Year party hat

We had a Happy New Year fellowship at church and Dakota was not impressed with wearing a party hat!

Dad holding kids

Jimmy held Mordecai and our nephew, Titus, at the fellowship!

Boy tracing name

Mordecai has been doing great with his schoolwork. We are very casual about it, but he continually impresses me with his desire to learn!

Young David book

Sadie and I finished reading Young David: Warrior and enjoyed it!

Kids playing with puzzle

When I see all three kids play together my heart just melts! I can still remember struggling to conceive Mordecai and desperately praying to hear more pitter patters of feet running around our house. They are all an answered prayer. 🤍

Other Notes and Thoughts 📝

  • My sister-in-law texted me on Saturday evening to see if I wanted to go to the mall with her and I was immediately like yes. It was so spontaneous and fun! I didn’t buy a thing but I felt like a person, not just a mom. Not sure if that makes sense. 🤣
  • I’ve been working on Dakota’s 11 month update and looked back at Mordecai and Sadie’s 11 month updates and wow has each child been so different! Sadie had been walking for a month already but was just starting to swallow solid food and Mordecai was much bigger than the girls. It’s just wild to me how all three of them are so unique. 👶🏼
  • Dakota is a very serious baby and the only person in our family who can get her to giggle is Mordecai! He is her favorite person and I love seeing their relationship develop as they grow. 🤗
  • Scripture I’m loving: So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 🙏🏻
  • I started keeping a tiny notebook and a pen beside my nightstand and every night I jot down something I’m thankful for that day. I am loving this new routine! ✏️
  • After waking up at 4:00 am each day to write my devotional book, I took a break from writing and “slept in” until 5:00 each day. I started a new writing project recently and I’m back to (naturally!) waking up at 4:00 am downright giddy to work on this. I love the feeling of being so passionate about something that I wake up excited to work on it. 📖
  • Mordecai sits next to Sadie and does his schoolwork with this workbook and is doing great! He is very into tracing lately and it’s adorable. ✍️
  • Speaking of Mordecai, he and Jimmy are both very into this alphabet board book! One of the pages has an outline of the United States and Mordecai naturally asked what the shape was and it sparked a whole explanation of geography and he was very intrigued! 🗺️
  • I finally scheduled Dakota’s ear tubes surgery for next month. When she was born, I never would have guessed how many ear infections she would have and that she’d be having surgery before turning a year old, but we are adamant about protecting her hearing and not letting her suffer through any more ear pain. Praying all goes well with the surgery!👂🏻

That’s all for this post! It’s currently Friday as I type this up and we’re due to get a big winter storm this weekend. Jimmy is endlessly excited about the prospect of getting a foot or more of snow. I don’t mind a big storm, but I always get nervous about losing power. I’m making sure our phones are charged up and we have some candles and flashlights on hand just in case! 🕯️

Have you ever been to an RV show?

Are you in the path of any winter storms this weekend?
